Which FF game has the most developed characters, in your opinion?

For me, it can't be any of of the game before FFIV, the really don't have much of a personality in any of them, even in the DS remake of FFIII they're just barely given a background...

I'll add my more of my thoughts later.

I'll go with Final Fantasy X. Character development was aided by the voice acting, which was absent in past Final Fantasy titles.

for me the ff game with most developed characters is ff9. i can connect whit characters the most. i don't now why? Maybe because vivi's meaning of life or relationship between Garnet and Zidane and their relationship with other characters.

Hmm tough one lol..

I would say all games from 7 onwards have greatly developed characters. I have played any before that so i wouldnt know otherwise. But for the best..probably Final Fantasy X OR Final Fantasy VII, my reasons,

In X every character has a very detailed backround, Tidus was from Zanarkand..supposedly 1000 years ago, and he developed into this great guardian who fell in love with Yuna. Lulu had quite a surprising past too,
2 summoners before Yuna she had gaurded, one she failed
, and she starts off as this grumpy ol witch :P eventually lightens up though. Aurons character was probably one of the best the FF series has seen, clouded with mystery but at the same time you felt like you knew him. Rikku had her Al Bhed past..then becoming a guardian..most were shocked. Kimarhi had a fairly intruiging past too,
with Biran and Yenke especially, his horn being broken etc
, although i don't think he developed much throughout the game..
Wakka had Chappu, along with Lulu too actually, although the story didn't go into too much detail about it.

As for VII Clouds characters was warped beyond belief, i didn't understand it the first time i played it. Characters i thought didnt't develope much at all throughout the game though were Barret, Cait Sith, Yuffie(was there much point in her?) Cid and Vincent. Aerith
wasn't even alive
and her character became bigger than any other except from Cloud. Tifa had her past with Cloud, she developed well through the game,
the scene with her and Cloud before going to the Northern Crater was nice :).
That leaves Red XIII, i thought he was really cool and his grandpa Bugenhaagen played a fairly big part of the game,
and you had the story why he hated his Dad, and found out his Dad was almost a hero..that story was almost tearjerking.
FFVIII is my favourite FF, and i still think that Squall has the best character the SE have ever came up with, but the other 5 let it down big time, it was like having Squall and then 5 hyper kids..although i loved them all they just dont compare to the characters from FFVII and X and possibly IX too.

Of course all of this is just MY opinion :D:D

9 and 10 IMO show character development better then the others. As its been pointed out, the voices in X helped out with the development. You could see the characters changing via their voices and in 9 the relationships changed, like Vivi. He was so happyish at the start of the game and as it progressed, it was like he grew up.

In my opinion, IX had the most developed characters ... minus Quina. Just remember that backstory doesn't mean development :P

Zidane, Garnet and Vivi were the best characters that this game has to offer, since the plot mainly revolves around those three characters. I think it's rather self-explanatory as to why these characters have excellent character development ... unless you've not played IX ...

The supporting cast even has character development. The rendered quotes help demonstrate their personal conflict. Eiko's loneliness, Freya's despair, Steiner's uncertainty, Amarant's arrogance and even Quina's obsession with food is resolved or otherwise put to use. They all develop, even Quina ... just a teeny bit for her though :P The characters all had their own unique personality, too.

I personally felt that X didn't have that much development. The only characters that I could truly say developed significantly were Yuna and Tidus, with Yuna more so. I personally don't think Kimhari and Aruon developed at all ... Lulu, Wakka and Rikku's development was minimal: Lulu failing Lady G-something, Wakka realising that the Al-Bhed aren't scum ... Rikku ... uh ... I'll get back to you on Rikku. Sure, the characters had backstories, but they didn't have development, per se.

That's just my opinion.

I'd say Tifa and Lulu...hardy har. Kidding aside, I'd go with the cast of X probably, since there were a lot of facets and hidden truths to several of the characters. That, and the voice acting added another dimension that was quite welcome. But overall, the development has been pretty good since FFVI, though sadly dipped with XII. Better luck next time, I guess.

I think VII & X had the best character development - VII especially as you learn so much about Clouds character throughout the game. X explained loads with the Fayth & wotnot & Aurons backstory was great, I loved finding those Jecht spheres

I would say anything from IV on had great development. IV was the first rpg that really sucked me in. Actually make that from IV through X, XI doesn't count and XII was pretty lacking in that area. I don't think I could single out one between IV and X, they all had great development.

IX was indeed dedicated to the development of its characters.
Squall in VIII showed a great deal of development, but that's it - all the other characters in VIII remained the way they were.

I thought Squall developed a lot in Final Fantasy VIII. Rinoa developed a little, and Edea too.
X was also quite good for development, although I wouldn't say it was as good as the development seen in VIII. As said before, backstory doesn't equal development.

Hmm... I wouldn't say that Edea developed. I mean, she wasn't even herself to begin with. We meet the true Edea only after defeating her in Galbadia Garden. Prior to that, we've been dealing with Ultimecia.

i would have to say FFX or FFVII both had good/great characters all with their own histories that you found out during their games
I.E. cloud being Ex-soldier, Barret's hometown being destroyed by shinra and his and Dyne's past,Rikku and Yunie being related, Tidus being a member of the Zanarkand Abes, Lulu's past sumoner who she failed to protect,Cid's Failed Shinra space rocket, infact even some of the Baddies have histories in both. Sephiroth was in Soldier around the same time as Zack and cloud, Seymour Guado killing his father and taking over his role as Maester of yevon, Yu-yevon bringing Sin about, Kimhari, Biran and Yenki being arch rivals

Final Fantasy IX had the best character development. Zidanne, Garnet and Vivi were all very thought out characters, who had to deal with a lot of demons and truths. The way they were handled was quite deep and dealt with a lot of strong issues. They took personal journies which saw them grow and develop throughout the game. Kuja also had development, although more towards the end of the game. Final Fantasy X's Yuna developed a lot throughout the game, growing in confidence and understanding. Her love for Tidus also played a part in the way she devloped. VIII's Squall had great development, the way he grew from a cold, heartless and blunt man to an affectionate and caring one was nice. Watching him showing feeling and becomming somewhat endearing was great.

are we talking personlity or stats and abilties?

Cause i would have to say that all of the character had there own way of looking at things but if were talking bout Stats and abilties then i would have say 10 was the best as aloud fou a high level of custimazation in my characters which is very important to me but 12 what an absolute load of crap that was eh the hell was that anyway crap and crap again god dammit Enix just said have these and try not to make any good chracters it stank it really stank it stank like pile crap and crap again

We're talking about characters developments in terms of how they developed as people through the game. How the story shapped them. There personal journey from start to finish.

I would say VII, FFIX, and FFX overall. I can't really choose between the three because I think all three did really well when it came to character developments. I'm sure one is better than the other in that area, but I can't say which for sure.

VII's characters were all developed in one way or another. Some characters were more developed than the others, but overall, I can tell there were major improvements with how the characters act and think towards the end.

IX was also the same, although I think I enjoyed more of their character interactions more than the other games because each and everyone had their own way of thinking and offered great advice. Love, selfishness, honor, destiny, trust, and many more were portrayed throughout the game.

Again, X's characters were also greatly developed, especially Yuna. The events and the situation they were in helped them improve in some way, characteristic-wise. And with Tidus' disappearance and all the things they went through, came the satisfaction that I was searching for in a game.
