More puzzles in FF

In FF, not really. I'd rather fire up Zelda for logic puzzles and mental games.

Like the old Supernintendo rpg Brainlord ?
rotfl..That game nearly drove me crazy with all its puzzles.
I agree that they might have some in sidequests..but not as part of the main storyline.

I think some more puzzles would be nice, particularly in sidequests. It would make it a bit more varied than "kill this monster!" and "find this item!" and so on.

I wouldn't want them to put too many puzzles into the game though, since I mainly play FF for the storyline. If I wanted a RPG full of puzzles, I'd play Zelda.

Although, I did like the Cloister of Trials in FFX, even though some of them could have had their difficulty tweaked to make them more challenging. I think Bevelle was the only frustrating one. :hmmm:

Cloister of trials was like a aneurysm after a while When ever starting a new FFX game Id have to take a break for 2 hours just to build up the interest to do it.

I thing some more puzzles would be a good thing if they were well thought out like nt just the right key for a door but interlocking quests into each other finding artifacts in 1 dungeon to use in another, item collection for powerful weapons is a kind of puzzle I suppose, but that is more dedication to detail than using your smarts.

No bloody board games though!

I wouldn't be fussed, it would make a nice addition, but at the same time it's not really something I would associate Final Fantasy with. I think puzzles are better suited to the likes of Ico, Shadow of The Colossus, Zelda etc where they can be properly implemented rather than added for the sake of it.

Meh. To be honest, if I want challenging puzzles, I'll play a p[uzzle game. I really don't want to spend hours moving blocks around to get through to the next area. Only to find another puzzle. :ffs: I'd go mental.

I didn't mind stuff like the Cloister of Trials and stuff like the Draklor Laboratory (which does still make me rage though), but really challenging puzzles just kill my inspiration for the game. I've turned off RPGs in the past simply because a puzzle has about 100 different solutions and only one correct one. It doesn't make me feel like I've earned my progress, like with some people. It bores the crap outta me.

I've always thought that it would be nice to have only a few puzzles scattered around the game that pop up only occasionally to break up the usual routine of running around a dungeon and killing the monsters in the way. Perhaps as mentioned, have some interesting puzzles in a sidequest that are actually entertaining (never ever will I attempt FFX-2's weird "puzzle"-like sidequests ever again), but don't go overboard and totally fill the game with puzzles. That's what Zelda is for.

Knowing SE nowadays, they'll probably only manage a half-arsed effort of puzzles. Compared to people like Team Ico, SE aren't really that accustomed to designing intricate and well-thought out puzzles especially as they have fancy and lengthy CGI to make.

Stevie & Fleur have said what I meant. Puzzels for sidequests, because the current ones can be monotonous (hunt this and kill it... or fetch this and bring it back after killing something). It would be nice to have some parts provide more of an intellectual challenge. i don't know why everyone thinks games have to be so dichotomous (Zelda is puzzle, FF is not)- why can't both games be both?

They don't necessarily have to be hours and hours of trying it (like the dumbass grinding you have to do for sweet weapons in 12 or playing the chase the butterfly/avoid the lightening in X) those are just inane.

Like the trials in X is a good example, something with a little thought to it but doesn't bog the game down.

If the games are light on puzzles, such puzzles will be looked at poorly because they aren't done as much as other games. People will say, "Well if you like it so much, play (other game) instead."

Yet if the games have too many puzzles, they're no longer a "real" Final Fantasy.

There is no such thing is a "real" FF game, whatever the makers create and include is what defines an FF game, so if they included some more intellectually challenge components in the next one that would still be considered an FF game.

Yet I almost think it's already established what a "real" Final Fantasy game is.

For example, Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon is kind of a side game due to its nature, it'd seem odd to say of the game "Oh, it's Final Fantasy XIII in disguise."

That made me chuckle, but I think you know what I meant.

I'm going to have to say the only place I would like to see more puzzles in final fantasy are the sidequests....but than again personally I wouldnt even like to see them there...Im the kind of guy who only uses a walkthrough for a puzzle. I play the games for everything except a puzzle. Its time consuming enough without them.
