Yeah, I saw this on t.v.; god, that's just so incredibly horrible. I've been on a Greyhound bus myself with family before, so to think something like this could happen is unsettling to say the least.
 
The guy was probably insane.
Sane, rational people don't just stab and decapitate strangers.
If that's the case then I feel sorry for the guy who stabbed him. It must be horrible to not be able to control yourself.
 
This is just..sick.

I don't understand how someone can do something like this to another person, much less a person they don't even know. Something must be very, very wrong with that man.

I feel bad for the people that had to witness it as well.. It must have been very disturbing to have to watch someone die like that and know you couldn't do anything to help.. I just hope that the man responsible gets nothing short of the death penalty. Someone who can commit a crime such as this doesn't even deserve to live -_-
 
I'd be interested to see the psych analysis on the attacker, it's quite strange that he did everything so calmly. If not rage, one would expect elation if he was doing it for some sick pleasure...but no reaction at all? That's just weird. And there's one thing I noticed in the MSNBC article that I just KNOW is going to be trouble:

I bet you anything that it's going to start a shitstorm about how violent movies turn people insane. Really, just what relevance does that have to the situation? Why is it critical information worth mentioning? It's not. It's going to turn into another "MOVIES MAKE PEOPLE INSANE" just like when the Virgina Tech massacre happened and people found that movie Oldboy in the guy's dorm and they started blaming it for his violence.

Perhaps...or maybe they figured they might as well describe in details what exactly were the things going on as it happened, including what they were watching. I don't know, I did find that odd that it was mentioned too, so I hope it doesn't cause an uproar.
 
We had a similar incident here too.A man cut his own wife's head for no reason and then killed a cop and injured many people.I freaked out.
 
This is disturbing on so many levels. It's sick and wrong. I had already seen this on another forum....*cringe* its just so horrible how a human being could do this....
 
My goodness, such a thing actually happened?

Looks like its gonna be all over the World News sections in Malaysia newspapers... I really feel for the poor soul who had to lose his life just because some lunatic sliced his head off! :(
 
Euungh, F ing terrorists, that's really sad and terrible for the passengers, the victims family but most of all the victim himself. You know when I hear about THESE kinds of things it just really pisses me off. Don't even F ing tell me they didn't unload at least 20 shots into that murdering terrorist's sick fricking head after the incident. Why let him live. Kill him on sight. My condolences go out to that victim and his family.
 
That's beyond disturbing. I'll think twice next time I decide to take a snooze on a bus. People are twisted.

That'd be a horrible way to die. What amazes me is how much information they released. Does the public need to know, "The suspect had the victim on the floor of the bus and 'was cutting his head off' with a large hunting knife." I really don't. Personally, if I were the family of this guy, I'd be upset about it. Although, maybe they gave permission for them to release the full story.

Either way, this is pretty appalling.

Plea for Death and more...

Turns out that the police officer on the scene witnessed the man cutting bits of the victim off and eating them. I feel bad for the officer, as well; that had to have been a nightmare to watch and feel unable to do anything about it.
The man also asked someone to kill him, but the judge doesn't acknowledge it. I think it's become quite clear that this man is fucking insane. I don't think an evaluation is necessary. If they try to claim that this man is seeking attention, then I think they must be stupid, I hope they don't go that route. Clearly if someone thinks that committing such a horrendous crime would get them self attention (the fact that it would is irrelevant) and go through with it just shows that they truly must be insane.
What happened in truly saddening. I hope he's in God's care now.

I do. He is insane and unable to control himself. It's not as if he wanted to cut his head off.
It's pretty narrow minded to just say that he is not worthy of our sympathy.

The man is clearly insane, anyone who could commit such a crime whist remaining completely calm doesn't really strike me as someone with control over their actions.

I think he is, the man pleaded for someone to kill him, whether this is because he is remorseful for his actions or because he has a mental illness which is disturbing him that much, I think there is much more going on in his mind than "I feel like killing this guy, ripping his head off and eating him" there is obviously something distressing him, which I think deserves sympathy.

Obviously this man is dangerous and shouldn't be allowed to live with the rest of society but killing him is not right, the man needs help, I think that he should be institutionalized instead of receiving 20 shots to the head.

To be fair the person was EATING the victim... So action needed to be taken.. But I agree killing him was not right though..

But still, I have only read the first article as I am pushed for time right now, and will read them later. I have never been on a Greyhound bus before, would everything have been in full view of everybody? Because by that first article it seemed that one bystander had only heard screams and that it had happened.. May just be how I was reading it...

If it was in full view of everybody, why didn't anybody do anything? A man starts stabbing someone to death, they even hear a scream, didn't anybody try to pull the guy away straight away? I guess it's just another sad case of bystander behaviour, like that Kitty Genovese incident but magnified to the extreme. But don't grill me over this if in the second article it describes how everybody tried to pull him off and got pushed back by him or something... I will read that article later.

About the Zorro movie, I agree that it is irritating when people try to state that movies / games cause insanity. In this case however it may have been relevant to mention... If I recall correctly this film has a scene of a beheaded mans head in a jar, a pretty disturbing scene if I recall... I might be thinking of another Zorro movie, but if it was this one then I can see how this scene might have triggered a psychotic episode in an already disturbed, psychotic and insane individual... But it wouldn't cause a normal, sane person to leap into killing action, but it may have been enough to flip an insane, unstable person, carrying a hunting knife and fighting the urge to kill, to suddenly leap into a killing frenzy. But thats not to say it was wrong of them to play Zorro on the bus, as people would be under the assumption that the people on the bus were not insane and intent on killing people.


This is a very sad case indeed.

EDIT - Have read all of the articles linked up here now... What I said still stands, but it seems like the people fled fromt he bus, but that some people waited at the door to stop him coming out and hurting anybody else. A case of panic probably, you don't know how you will react when you see someone stabbing an innocent right next to you.. You'd think you'd try and intervene, and the sheer number of you would stop him, but you realy, do not know.

Not more worthy than the victim. You know--the guy who's missing his head.
