What is luck to you?

Do you carry it around -let it hang off of your key chain? Do you avoid that occasional black cat? Or do you just let things happen?

Personally, I don't believe it's possible for it to just show up and stay for 7 years after busting a mirror. I don't believe it sticks with you all day because of that rabbit's foot you carry around. To me, luck is but a mere coincidence of time and place.

I agree, whether superstitious or not you create your own luck regardless if it's good or bad. Personally, I'm not superstitious because I don't see how things such as breaking a mirror, or seeing a black cat etc can cause any kind of luck. >.>

I broke a mirror a few months ago and I've been alright so far. I'm not superstitious at all.

I don't believe in luck, throughout a persons lifetime they will experience good things and bad things, that's just life. A horseshoe or whatever will not thwart these bad things, but if it makes people more attentive to the good things that happen in their lives, good for them.

Luck boils down to perception. and therefore I don't think it exisits, since what someone would percieve as an opportunity and therefore good luck, could be the opposite to another.

Did anyone see the Derren Brown thing where he gave this girl every piece of supposed superstitiousbad luck, and then asked her to through a dart in order to win something?

Luck? Nope, maybe Doubt or Belief. As people have said before it is purely perceptive. I think whoever created the notion of luck, must have been a pretty paranoid figure in our society.

Honestly though I do believe in something that sort of is along the same lines as luck though, so I should not be talking. I believe in Karma. It works for me, so that's why I believe in it.

To me, luck is just a variable that you apply, based on your courage and/or hopefulness, that causes that courage or hopefulness to increase or decrease, based on the track record one has that is believed to be the main factor that causes coincidences to either clash or interweave into your desires or goals. I believe it's an application for how one perceives their overall likelihood or unlikelihood that something will or won't turn in their favor. If you don't believe in superstition or things related to the luck factor, then we should be on the same page, even if what I said confused you.

Very neat topic, by the way. :yay: I commend thee.

To me (of course), I don't think luck is something that's there. I don't think it exists in a way most people think. A lot of people act or speak as if you can actually touch luck. I don't think it's there or even invisible. It's just a name or something else to call whatever good or bad happens in life. Good or bad out of the usual, of course.

As for your second part.. I have no idea. :/

I believe that you make your own luck. If you go about things in the right way, and with a positive attitude then things will work out well for you. Exams and revision are the prime example of that; if you revise well and understand the subject then obviously you're going to pass. It doesn't come down to luck.

I also believe somewhat in karma - the idea of doing good things comes back to you. It's quite logical really to think that if you're a good person, you'll be regarded so and therefore it's more likely that good things will happen to/for you.

I don't believe in luck, I think if you have a bad attitude about things, then bad things will happen to you, if you have a good attitude, good things will happen to you. And, I just don't see how seeing a black cat or smashing a mirror creates bad luck. Same with good luck charms, I just don't get how a rabbit's foot can be seen as lucky?

Karma, on the other hand, I do believe in. I think if you do bad things, one day it's gonna come back and bite you in the ass, and bad things will happen to you, but if you do good things, then only good things will happen to you, as there should be no reason for bad things to happen.

Do you think that that's true no matter what? You do something good, you have something good affect you later on. You do something bad, you have something bad affect you later on?

Due to personal experiences, I found that you can be the most giving person and you'll still get crapped on. My 'definition' of luck has nothing to do with Karma.

(I think I might have sounded a bit bitchy just now. If so, I apologize for the false internet tone. :p)

I use to believe in it but I don't anymore cause I never had any so I just go about my day normally. Sometimes I do get the occasional thought "Wow he was really lucky to get that" when someone has lke a 1/1000 of getting something like in a drawing or something. So I don't really know what to think about it.
