I don't think she looks like either of them appearance-wise too much. More or less based on how she's been portrayed personality-wise in trailers and gameplay she seems more like Cloud. Lightning gives me that vibe that she's hiding something deep down that she hasn't bothered to, or doesn't want to, come face to face with. Sort of like the whole Cloud living as Zack thing.

Well to be honest, I'd like to think that she is her own character and not a comparison of either Cloud or Squall.

When they said that Lightning was a female Cloud that didn't mean that they gave Cloud boobies and called it Lightning. Paine is the female version of Squall, but I haven't heard anyone shit their pants over that.
I can see where they got some of Cloud from, like that one shoulder pad thing or the fact that there's a belt tied above the belt line. She's still gonna be her own character.

Facial features and general appearance I would lean more towards Cloud on this one I guess. I mean I hope she's not like either of them and she's a whole new emotional, personable character overall. However, if we are going off of looks, I would say Cloud.

Just because she has the same type of weapon as Squall doesn't make her Squall or even resemble Squall other then the fact they have the same weapon. Her techinque form skills with the weapon may be totally different from Squall. She does however look more like Cloud and I think that was kind of the point lmao. But just because she looks like Cloud doesn't necessarily mean she'll act like him too. I think they were just going for Cloud's looks but not his peronality and if they were going for Cloud as a whole then she might as well be Cloud#2 instead of Lightning.
I'm pretty much convinced by Zerokku's post there. Admittedly, I would think Squall does look similar somewhat, but I suppose based on that post and the comparison between Cloud and Lightning, I'm more convinced Lightning seems more like Cloud.
You can compare Lightning to Cloud facially, psychically and in personality wise..almost.

i personally think she looks like neither. I wish people would stop calling her a female version of cloud. Yes, I know the designer was told to make a female version of cloud, but IMO she came out looking nothing like Cloud. So why keep comparing her to him? They are two different characters who look completely different.
I'm not informed on this game at all. I don't have a PS3 and wasn't planning on playing FFXIII (as I was so disappointed by XII) so I haven't paid any attention to this game. However, looking at this picture- and they named her Lightning? What's with that?- I have to agree with whoever thinks she looks like Cloud, I think they share twin-like features and she's pretty much got his eyes like they've been glued onto her face. That said, she's very attractive. This is the first time I've ever looked at her. She might even be hotter than Rikku.
I don't see why this should matter though, and it won't really have any effect on the game, so I don't think anyone should get all bent out of shape over it.

Her real name isn't lightning. We don't know what her real name is. In the game she gave herself the name lightning because she tried to change who she was, to be strong for her sister. So she became "Lightning." I hope we find out what her real name is by the end.

i got to say she looks liek cloud have a gunblade like leon however.
what i seen her personality is way different from both.
Uh and let me say i am so hoing they do her right since 99% of all hero females in games or the shallow personality or big boob half naked type of character. So i have high hopes for lighting.

Since looks were based on Cloud I'm not even going to go there but in terms of personality I'd say she seems more like Cloud too from the little I've seen. She doesn't seem the most cheerful of people, and Squall is one of the most angsty bastard main characters there's been in an FF game but Cloud wasn't exactly a little ray of sunshine either. She does crack a smile or two which is more than Squall really manages; her whole issues with her past too point to why she is a pretty sombre character on first glance and I think that links back to Cloud pretty well too.

Lightning is similar to Cloud, they both share the same type of personality. I think that Lightning will be an interesting character to play as, and I think it is good that Final Fantasy has a female leading role. Lightning does look like Cloud, but I can't see much similarity to Squall - well, in my eyes anyway

To be honest, I think all Japanese anime and FF characters look alike. I mean like, the human ones. They have all got mole-free faces, white skin and, just simply handsome/beautiful. The only thing that differs are the hairstyles and eyecolors.

As for who Lightning reminds me of. Neither really. Granted that she has a few qualities that are similar to both Cloud and Squall, but she is her own person. Really the only thing Lightning and Cloud have in common is that they are both ex-soldiers. And between her and Squall is that they both carry a gunblade of sorts. Lightning is just Lightning. She has a very gentle side to her that you don't really see in either Cloud or Squall.
I would actually say neither, the facial features might be cloud-ish and she may have some personality traits of Squall but she is definatley her own character, Afterall most of the screenshots were taken while it was a work in progress that people are mainly comparing, and if you look at the later ones (the ones people have in there sigs) you can see the individuality of Lightning shine through.

Right off the bat, she reminded me of Cloud, since she's a soldier that defects from the military. She fights against the same organization she was once a part of, so that's another nod Cloud's way. She's extremely head-strong as well, much like Cloud at the beginning of FF7.
Other than the gunblade, I don't see the Squall connection. Lighting actually speaks her feelings outloud at various points in the game, whereas Squall does everything in his power to keep his thoughts a secret from all those around him.

Am I necro-posting? Sorry if this is too old... anyway... just wanted to say... Lightning totally reminds me of both Squally and Cloud, at least physically. Squall's Dissidia look is so cute...
If he had pink hair, wore lip gloss, and tweezed his eyebrows a bit more... he'd look like Lightning too. Although, Cloud is already the more feminine one of the two.
