Alright, I've noticed some hated and some liked the license board within FFXII.

Tell why you liked or disliked it here. =D.

I like it. No set weapons for characters means more freedom in developing each dude. Gives extra incentive to fight, makes obtaining weapons (for use, to not just have) all the more challanging, and so on.

Although I thought it was nice that the license board let you acquire different and various types of weapons...something felt abit empty about it.
Like, first off I really thought there were not enough Augument (sp?) to acquire. Just something felt abit off with this type of system. I'd rather have the Sphere Grid anyday.

I think because alot of people missed levelling during FFX, and alot of people really liked the Sphere Grid, they tried finding a way of combining the two. It was a good idea, could've been abit more indepth but I think it's pretty cool. Like if you live somewhere like America where guns are legal, you must have a liscense to have one, so from that point of view I understand the liscenses for weapons and stuff. :)

I think its good, it allows for more versitallity and allows everyone to individualise there characters in there own ways, this is usefull. Also if you have liscense points left you can do what I did once, I added a sword license to my Balthier in the middle of the battle so he could use a sword instead of a gun aganist the king bomb.

It was alright, I mean it did enable every character to use every kind of weapon and spell there is (which kinda took away from the character's personality and depth)
The points kept going up even when the characters weren't in the main party and that I fund very convenient.
I suppose this was a good addition to the game, in VII they had the Materia Leveling up system, in VIII they had the AP revieced for the GF's, in IX they had the AP with the characters them selves, in X they had the Sphere Grid, in X-2 They had the Dresspheres and now they have a License Board :3
Everything works out in the end. But I still say this took away from the character's personality. As in other FF games, every character had one class of weapon they could use and I think that, that gave the character more personality, now that we can put any weapon on them simply takes away from the character's identity.

I think it was boring. You kill a certain amount of beasties and you can now wear better armour, it seems a boring concept to me. I also would have prefered more augment things too. Also more magic would have been better. You couldn't really see the changes with the license board. With the sphere grid, you saw the difference that going up a level made.

I like the way everyone can use any type of weapon, I think it gives you more control over them. The Materia system allowed everyone to use any spell or summon (not sure of VIII and IX as I didn't get to into them for some reason) and the Sphere Grid allowed everyone to use any spell or break, so the ability for everyone to use magicks on FFXII isn't anything new. Also, with the battle system, you kind of need everyone to be able to use ranged weapons like guns or bows (aswell as magic) for flying foes (until you get Telekenisis.) You decide which character is melee, ranged, black mage and white mage. Weapons like staffs and armour classes allow you to boost your magick stats, while others will boost your strength etc. so it's down to you to decide what your characters are good at. Generally Penelo & Fran are probably the best choice for mages as they have the highest MP, Ashe is pretty balanced between the two, Basch and Balthier are pretty powerful and Vaan is fast, you can still mix and match to suit your tastes.

I think they main problem with the character's identities is the storyline/cutscenes etc. you don't really get to know the characters all that well, I don't think weapons are to blame for it.

Was a nice change for me.

I didn't really like it. I hated having to earn LP to be able to equip things or use magic, and it just bored me in general. Half of the stuff was pointless getting really aswel, might as well just kit everyone out in heavy armour and such like.....

Meh, I just wasn't keen on it

I liked it. Far more exciting and less tedious then the sphere grid.

I would prefer if they had set things, but there might be a compromise, e.g. you choose what weapon types they use, etc. I kind of liked the licence board, but maybe if the board was organised different then everyone would like it more?

I so agree. Not having the certain classes kinda took away from the depth and the identity of the characters. Although it was nice have the ability to get every party member different armour and weapons...it just seemed empty and pointless.

I would've liked to see maybe "searching" for pieces of the license board and putting it together piece by piece or somesort. That would've been quite cool, I'd think.

I liked the idea, having to obtain a license before being able to use a weapon.
But the fact that everyone can learn the exact same thing is not as nice. kind of makes it a bit dull, although you can choose to give everyone different kinds of weapons.

In the international version however, you have different licenseboards for everyone if you want that. Unfortunatly its in Japanese. Except for the voice acting wich is still in English.

The license board is a good addition to the ff games in my opinion. Because it makes it take a little more effort in order to beat the game, without it you could just buy the magicks/technicks and fly through the game.

I like that about the game to be fair, gives you alot more control over what type of fighter your party members are.

And with the Flying foes, you can give everyone a bow or a gun. Instead of being limited to having one ranger (like FFX with Wakka) and using alot of magicks at once can overload and take a while to cast. That ofcourse, is until you get Telekenesis.

All the different armours, helms, shields etc. were good aswell, you can decide the strengths and weaknesses of your party members.

I think it was a nice change, and worked well with the battle system.

I liked the License Board, though I liked the Sphere Grid more. But still, I dislike making characters more generalized, so I gave specific classes to each character in order to make sure each was unique. It was still nice to have an lot of variety in what to make each character's abilities be.

For the record, I'm currently keeping Vaan an balanced fighter and mage; Penelo an white/green mage; Fran an black/arcane mage; Baltheir an long-range fighter; Ashe an red mage; and Basch an pure fighter.

I'm still wondering why the people of Ivalice need to get an license to wear an hat.

I didn't like this. First of all, the armors in the store cost a lot of money, I never managed to get all my characters fully equiped with the best armor at the same time PLUS you needed to get the license on the board to able to wear the armors, just ridiculous. Buying magick, as they call it, at stores and technicks is quite ridiculous too in my opinion.

ALthough it was kinda gay to travel around a board just to use a hat or a shoe for your character, it was cool when you set your sites on a certain area and knew you had to complete so many battles for the Abiltiy points to unlock the square to use a certain Item or Quickening, or Esper even.

It's just a new way Squenix uses to keep us guessing and not bored of the same old, same old.

Meh, I suppose it was so-so. I didn't really like the system in FFX so I'm not really a fan of this one either. But at least you could level this time. I would've prefered that each character had a specific job like in FFIX instead so you don't go around looking for that spell you want all over the License Board until you've unlocked everything just to find that the Cura spell is closer than you thought.

At the begin i liked it, but i train alot and my license board got full pretty fast and everbody could use everything -_-
