Killing the Mechanical Spider

Did anybody ever kill the Mechanical Spider that you have to run from at the begenning? I just started a new game, and lvl'ed up like crazy. I just pounded away at it with Quetzacotl and Shiva SumMag30% and it blew up. It was an easy walk back to the beach after that, although I was a bit upset I didn't get to see the badass cutscene. I got 50ap for killing the Mechanical Spider and a nice bonus to my rank for Gil.
 
jeeze it never blew up for me. I did beat it down enough where I got the 50 ap, but whenever i got it's health all the way down it did it's self repair thing by 60%.
 
The idea with the Spider is that that aren't really suppose to beat it. The first encounter is unavoidable, but after that you're suppose to escape without fighting it to get a higher SeeD rank.
 
I killed it once, waste of time really but meh. the extra seed points you get for beating it you lose on time anyways

I just made sure I got boost for Quezy and mashed him that way, he only actually regenerates a set number of times so once your on the bridge he should only repair himself afew more times before you can kick his behind

I didn't really bother getting levels, I just concentrated on getting Zell compatable with Quezy so I could bash him a little faster
 
I think Quists kill it, and did you knew that there's two spider scene?!

One is the usual scene but I heard some ppl saying that when you enter some crap(shop or something) while the spider is chasing ya the scene will change and the spider will go after another ppl!!

You lose points for hiding in the shop, thats even less worth it than killing the thing. I only did it myself for the sake of completion.
You totally lose the whole Quistis FMV because you already busted it up
 
I never knew that! But it does make sense.

In Disc 2 I didn't take Rinoa with me and left her with the missile base mission and that FMV of her hair blowing in the wind was gone; not that I particularly cared :P
 
Why would you want to blow it up if you lose one of the best FMV's in the game? Also I didnt bother leveling up enough to kill it.
 
You don't really need to level up all that much tbh theres not much point. Juction 100 of X magic to your strength stats for Squall & it's not all that hard as long as you don't give him quezacotl aswel that kinda defeats the point

I did that on my last play thru & I was like oooh I wonder if it fucks up and still gives me the FMV lol

The spider Takes a very annoying amount of time to kill you gotta kill it on the bridge but don't be suprised if you end up having only like 5-7 min left before mission = bye bye... that's assuming you lvl up but not like do real level training I got bored one day and said I want you dead I was going to leave at 3 min left but I never needed to since it died... although the scene with Quistis blowing the mech spiders brain's out was gone. v.v
 
I never botherd to kill that damn thing, although it DID annoy me. Urghhh. It's so bothersome that it keeps coming back and sheett. DIE SPIDER DIE!
 
Well i never did end up finishing all of FF8 but i remember when i played it, I ran from the Spider and never defeated it. I would fight it for as long as i could but then i would be losing so i just escaped. I always just figured that's what you were suppose to do. I usually follow walkthroughs to get everything and it said to run from the battle so i did.

No way man, I beat it with 20+ minutes to spare. Lvl 36 Squall, lvl 24 Zell, lvl 20 Selphie.
 
I didn't know you can actually blow it up. o.o Interesting. Well, in that case, I'm still glad I didn't blow it up anyway. FMV is more important that SeeD points. xD
 
I killed it.

And when I realized it got rid of my FAVORITE SCENE IN THE GAME, I restarted it and didn't kill it, haha.
 
Well you can still get all the bonuses for killing it without making it blow up. so there is really no point in doing so. just beat it down enough and you got all the AP and SeeD points you need.
 
Pah, I've had like 14 different files on FF8, and not once did I beat that spider. I thought about doing it a couple times, but I never liked prolonging the beginning of the game just because of how epic it was. The best I ever did was running into it 0 times after that required encounter at the tower... took a lot of new games to do that though, since I was usually satisfied with just fighting him a couple additional times. xD
 
I always defeat it on the bridge. I tend to be able to get 100 points in everything except for the one which goes down as you lose time getting back to the Beach. For this I make it up by defeating the spider and getting the 100 bonus points. It's really not difficult, just whore Quezacotle constantly.
