Job that you love or job that makes more money

I have to say first off that I would never take a job (unless I had no other choice) that would not cover (pay out for) the bare essentials: food, water, shelter. I would probably need internet, too, so TV is not a necessity. I'd need a cell phone. I'd also need to pay utilities and whatnot. And it's just me living with my cats, so I'd have them to worry about. I figure it's something around 2,000 a month to live the way I'm living at the moment. These are the factors I would consider first and foremost before going into the decision to take a job that I love (that doesn't necessarily pay out) or a job that makes more money.

In my case, the reality is that I've already pursued a job in education. At the moment, I am student teaching at a high school and I intend on looking for some kind of job after that within the field. I know for a fact that I can live on 30k a year, although it depends where I go (some places pay out 35k as a teacher, but I'm not terribly sure). So for me, I would rather take a job I loved, which will probably be teaching, rather than making more money just to have money.

I've found that money does not make you happy, although it can help you lead a more comfortable and materialistic life. It can ruin people, inside and out. I'm lucky to have a mom who's landed a wealthy husband who took care of us financially, but even with the money we have, there is still a lot of stress and probably even more so BECAUSE of the money. I won't get into any details, but I would honestly rather take a job I love and get paid less than to work a job I hate and get paid more.

I would definatly prefer a job that I liked, but unfortunatly that's generally difficult to come by.

I talked to my dad about this yesterday, and we agreed a job that makes more money is better. He had to raise three kids, so he had no choice but to make a sacrifice and bring home more money, at the cost of less happiness at work. So that's what I'll say also. It depends whether or not I have a family. If I do, I'm gonna need the money, if not, I'd rather enjoy my job.

I have always sided with my childhood dream job, becoming a preacher.

Which is what I am going to school for.
I hope & expect to always side with my desire to enter the priesthood & a PhD in Theology.

In the end, money is not an issue for me; I simply want a job I adore.

Since I don't want a family and don't mind leading a simple life, I'd choose a job which I enjoy. Although... the majority of jobs on minimum wage are not jobs people enjoy... :sad3: I personally think that's really unfair. -_- Some of the worst jobs (cleaning toilets, retail, waitressing) have the worst pay?

Anyway, an example would be choosing to be an English teacher as opposed to a Deputy Head. Obviously the opportunity to be a Deputy Head is waaay off, but I can't imagine choosing to be one, despite the pay being (easily) twice as much, if not more. I'm not too keen on the work Deputy Heads seem to do, and they teach far fewer lessons.

Of course I may change my mind one day, but if I do, it won't be about the money. I may just want a bit of a change and/or to make an even greater difference to the school, which Deputy Heads certainly do. I'll only choose the job if I believe I'm going to enjoy it.
