To play through this game without actually havin' to stay in one place and grind!

I mean I have never done this but I was wondering if someone else did!

Like just walk through the story?

I never grinded once o_O

I beat the final boss with sub-par HP and the level I was at was appaling. Maybe you are just shooting through the game not even battling random enemies. You could try to stay somewhere a little longer than usual, but you really should not need to grind at all. FFVII is a veru lenient game that allows you to go through normally and still be able to win easily, imho.

Well I am grinding now on this save! at Shinra HQ sitting at Level 20!! I thought that I was the only one sitting staring at this Forum for a minute lol!

Actually it is possible. :hmmm:

This game wasn't exactly hard so there's really no need to grind levels, imo. The only main storyline boss that's even remotely hard is the Demon's Gate. Other than that, it's pretty much a cakewalk.

Hmmm...I'm not really sure. In every play through there's a certain place that I sit and grind, but I don't really think it's required. I really doubt you would need to grind in Midgar, especially. My grind point is usually when you get to the Chocobo Ranch. I usually sit there and grind for a little while, even if I don't really need to. You should only have to grind if you confront a boss and you find that you're getting your ass handed to you pretty easily. There aren't really any points in FFVII where I found it really necessary.

On my first playthrough I went about it completely the wrong way... I ran from every battle possible and then when I went to face a boss I'd be tearing out my hair with rage at how powerful he is. I'd then have to level-grind in a certain spot in order to beat anything.

I found that on my second playthrough that bosses are rarely a problem if you fight every battle you encounter on the way. I was more than prepared for most boss battles, and while it sounds tedious it is a lot more fun to fight battles while heading on the way to somewhere than it is running around in circles.

So if you fight every battle that you encounter then you should be fine for most (if not all) of the game, and therefore can avoid having to grind in one spot.

I dunno...My first playthrough (just the straight main story), I got all the to the final boss at level 60...but subsequently kept dying >_>

I was able to beat the game at lvl 75 though :hmmm:

I think if you take the time to do the character recruitment and general exploration, I don't think you actually need to physically grind.

I don't think it's really necessary, especially if you exploit the game's secrets and acquire the most useful equipment pieces..
Though I have had trouble on two bosses, I don't know if I'd call them storyline-based because they are both semi optional (Midgar Zolom, Lost Number) and you can avoid fighting each of them throughout the game.

So my answer would be yes.. I think the game was designed to be played through this way..

(I don't know what people find so hard about Demon's Gate though?. I would usually have more trouble fighting Carry Armor or Materia Keeper)

Really depends. I'd have to call bull on the ones that say it can "easily" be done. There are certain areas where you can get gutted if you don't have the necessary level/stats from fighting or the gil that you receive from it to buy the necessary items. Certain things in the Gi cave, certain times at Mt. Niebel, (of course) the crater, and probably one of the worst - the sunken Gelnika. Some of these places contain monsters that strategy and proper equipment alone won't help you with. And with some of them, if you don't finish within the first few strikes (which the higher levels/stats would allow for), you'll get your ass handed to you.

"Easily done" throughout? No.

Possible? Claro que si.

I still say there's no reason to really stay in one area and grind levels, which is the topic at hand here. Yes, there are a few tough monsters in certain areas but if you go through the game at a normal pace without running from battle, the game is extremely easy.

The only really tough creatures in the Gi cave were those stingers because of that stingbomb attack (fuckers >_>).

The Gelnika was a bitch but it was really a sidequest. :hmmm:

Of course, when I think level grinding, I think spending a great deal of time in one area just trying to gain level after level. I never did this when playing FF VII (until the end because I wanted to fight Emerald and Ruby) and I never had a problem getting through the game.

I tried this once for fun and it took FOREVER! It's possible. I beat Sephiroth at the end at level 51. It was a 4 hour long battle and very strategic, but yes it's possible. It's not as fun though.

I tend to fight every fight and not run, and with my luck, there's lots of fights
I'm at like level 25 on my way to Kalm

That's all fine and dandy. I didn't argue that. What I challenged was the idea that you could do it and expect everything to be a breeze. That's also related to the topic at hand, is it not? Since one would want to gauge how it would be prior to trying it out.

Some parts will be a park walk. I can't think of an instance in Midgar, for example, that's really gonna require laying down some serious effort. Other parts, later in the game, will definitely require work without level grinding applied.

Again, it's all very possible.

:ffs:

I just realized how that sounded. I wasn't trying to say your post was irrelevant. :8F:

I was just really trying to say it's possible to go through the game without grinding. Yes, some parts are a bit tougher than others (northern crater, etc) but I found the game relatively easy compared to a lot of other RPGs (especially older FF games).

I personally always found the need to run around in circles from time to time, so i could level up a bit. I never tried to just run right trough it, but i'm guessing people have done it. Personally i was never really bothered about leveling up i actually enjoy it.

I never used to like it I always used to get fed up but then always get beat, which in my return I would turn it off and go on something else, but at the moment on my Ps3 one I am enjoying it alot more than I used to! So not to bothered about it now!!

Hm...

This really depends. I know some people who had trouble with bosses, but I also know people (including myself) who agree with most of the above statements.

There shouldn't really be a need to grind in levels. If you go along with where the game takes you, and don't just fly from place to place, only landing where you need to, you should be fine. Running from battles (Argor :lew:) is something you shouldn't do. You gain no exp from that, which is what you'll need.

Besides that though, I think the only time I had to level up a bit, was with that damned Demon Wall in the Temple of the Ancients. Hated that place with a passion.

I think this game is comfortably challenging if you don't grind at all. If you manage your resources and arrange your materia properly, even the hardest bosses aren't impossible. If you are thorough in dungeons and other areas, you get more than enough levelling in.

For the first time gamers though, I don't think it would be possible without an awful lot of saving/loading. I know the game like the back of my hand, and don't really have trouble with it at all any more.

I had to grind quite a bit when I played it but it could because I have lots of trouble with it's battle system and understanding what was going on. I always died a lot. However, when I started a reply recently I didn't have as much as trouble.

I guess things have changed since I was seven!

And the Gi cave thing killed me so many times every time that I felt like I was missing some easy way. Those monsters sucked!

ff12

I know this doesn't have anything to do with the subject at hand but trying to find someone that knows how to get diamond armlet after getting through 3/4 of the game.
