They are having midnight releases to buy The Hunger Games on DVD.

Yes, I realize that it made A LOT of money in the box office and that it was a great movie.
But a midnight release to get a copy?

Do I my self have an opinion on the matter? Sure! I think it's a neat idea, I've never heard of them doing that for a DVD before.
But I can see how it might be a little much.

What are your thoughts on this?

Release date is August 18th.

they do it for books, they do it for games, they do midnight releases at the cinema so it's no surprise that it would happen eventually for a dvd release. i can't imagine why you would want to get something that's technically not new so early. as far as i'm concerned, you'd buy it at midnight because you want to watch it right there and then. it's especially not okay when it's such an overrated film.

Harry Potter did this didn't they? :hmmm:

But like others said if everything else does it, then why wouldn't dvds...It sold a lot at midnight from what I understand

I think it's fine. If it's a widely liked item, then it's only natural that there'll be nuts who'll queue up for hours. Just for the fun of it more than for the actual purchase probably. I've never done it...but I would if it was for something I really liked :)

I've never attempted midnight releases, but I don't know how many times i've slept over in front of an H&M store just to get my hands on exclusive designer collaborative garments which would end up only lasting me a year or 2...pathetic, right?

I found out the day we wanted to rent it (the day it came out) they were all out of copies, so my friend was forced to buy the DVD.

I suppose it really was a big deal. I enjoyed the movie, and I cant wait for the sequel.

....who actually cares if they are having a midnight release on a movie hahaha.
If you loved it that much, you go, if you don't love it, then don't go lmfao...there's not much to have an opinion on here.

That seems a bit ridiculous imo and youd have to be pretty mad to stand at midnight to get something the second its out, especially a movie. If you love it that much watch it in the cinema again. I can kind of understand midnight game releases and people wanting to play them straight away though you would never ever catch me going to a midnight release of one ever. I think its a bit silly though yeah.

I havent seen the hunger games but it seems to have a lot of bad reviews on the net. Its score is being kept above average by the amount of hardcore fans voting it 10/10. I hear the main complaint is that its not true to the books? Ive also heard its pretty much a carbon clone of the Japanese movie Battle Royale but in different centuries. And ofc its not in Japan. Battle Royale came out before hunger games and its movie adaption though id like to add. The first scene in the hunger games is near exactly the same as BRs so ive been told also. Battle Royale is a great film and holywood likes to ruin a foreign film but il no doubt pick up the hunger games once i can get it for dirt cheap on amazon. Theyre remaking the korean film oldboy aswell. fu hollywood.

I generally think that huge crazes for anything are rather silly. I wish people would just calm down overall. :c

I love these things! I remember they did a midnight release for Assassins Creed III at Gamestop, which wrestling fans were able to use as a way to get WWE '13 early! (well, that was the plan at least). I think it's fine for any top selling.... Anything, to get a midnight release. Odds are people want it, so why not throw it at them in the dark? ;)
