Where do you draw your inspiration for GFX from?

I draw my inspiration more or less from music. I'm always listening to some form of music when I'm making something. If I'm well into a particular album at one point or another then I'll make a sig or even a set to remember that moment.

I see it as a way of putting my feelings for the album in that particular piece and I can always go back to it and see how much it meant to me... so to speak. :wacky:

I don't really know if I have inspiration when doing signatures. I mean, I'm sure I am inspired about something but as far as that inspiration reflecting my general tags...I have no idea. There's only been a few times when I've done a few tags and was inspired about something. One was spring (our La Primavera theme) and something generally "artistic". Listening to music would also help me, but it has to be something melodic and Japanese. =]

I'm not really inspired by anything... But if I had to mention something, I'd say that the stock itself is what inspires me. When I see a good stock, an idea for a new piece that involves using the stock's shape, colors and size to my advantage pops into my head. It's at that point that I become inspired to open up a new document and make something out of it. And it usually turns out well when I follow that method. When I force myself to make something out of a stock that doesn't give me that feeling, it turns out poorly most of the time. But I suppose that that's really common, so I still don't quite want to call it "inspiration."

Well while I admit that music does provides a good source of inspiration, I must say that the quality and the overall theme of the signatures I create is highly influenced by my mood. If I am in rage I try to infuse the signature with the feeling I have, almost as if I were trying to communicate through it.

I just see it as another way to express myself during the time when words do not suffice.

That's a really cool ability.
My mood can't be communicated through my work at all. Most of my work contains bright and happy colors despite the fact that I'm such a miserable person who is depressed all the time. XD

Oh thank you. Well yes, I can only come up with good tags if I somehow "feel" them as part of me, almost as if they were an extension of my mind.

Look at this tag for example:

Sorrow-14.jpg

By the looks of it, you can see I was really angry when I was making that signature. And in reality, I sure was quite horrendously annoyed by someone, hence the angry signature

I get all excited (or inspired) when I find a stunning render or stock. I would stare at it for a few seconds and try to decide what to do with it.. Unlike Casanova, I can't listen to music while editing. I find it hard to focus and I stop what I'm doing to sing along with the song.. XD

I'll get inspiration from music sometimes, but mostly in the case of writing the song's lyrics on the pic.

Mostly I'll get inspired by seeing other GFX. Not in the case of omg-that's-so-awesome-must-do-similar, but if I see something really nice I always think "Hey! I wanna make something =)" must be the competitor in me xD

Hmm, now that you've mentioned mood, Julius, I do think that my mood somewhat inspires me to do a signature. If I'm in a middle of making one and someone annoys me, I just have to stop because the signature turns out negatively and there's been a case where I had to do things all over again because I just kept going and going even while I was annoyed. So yes, I do believe it affects me in a way.

But when I'm bouncy or just feeling good about something, I usually make a signature then. The stock and render also plays a big part on my inspiration.

I don't think I get my inspiration from anywhere, I just have moments where I suddenly feel creative, I can't even say that my mood affects the way I try to make sigs etc, and how I make them...I just do. Music might have the slightest input on inspiration since I'm always listening to music when I'm creating something but it doesn't have a big enough affect on me to drastically affect my output. :wacky:

Well before even starting, I just select a theme and some kind of message I would like to express. Then I begin searching for a stock that should suffice my need, and then I make the theme revolve all around the message I want to show in the signature.

For example, if it is about loyalty, I would most likely use a stock with friends helping each other. If I want to express love, then well I would choose a stock that could lead to such interpretation. And the same goes for the rest.

its funny i either make music then a gfx for it or vice versa.

If I were to describe my graphics... I'd call them "accidents".

I start off... by not even knowing WHAT I'm going to do... and then I just slowly keep experimenting and working my way around the graphic until it becomes something that looks GOOD.

So in general, I don't really THINK when I make a graphic.

If you're talking about LAYOUTS though, that's a totally different thing. My inspiration comes from some people who I really respect and admire. And well... generally I just aspire to make something that BLOWS me and everyone else away (although if I can blow myself away... that's more than enough for me...)

I once told a similar answer to one of the members here who was teaching me the basics and she said "You should think".
The problem is, the more I think, the crappier the graphic will be so I just let inspiration to lead the way :gasp:

I draw inspiration from anything, and it switches dramatically from one aspect to another. xD

Right now it's obviously sports. David Villa avatar, Football-style badge for a signature, it's all going pretty well. It used to be music, but now it's...eh.

I GFX when I'm in the mood, and now as a GFX Clan member, I'm prompted to make GFXs. The more restrictions I'm given, the easier it is to GFX I think; it gives you focus.

I tend to make sigs featuring some sort of anime/game art, so I guess that might inspire me to make them. To somehow take an image and make it something my own that I can show off proudly ^^

My inspiration usually comes from two things.

1. Other people's work. If I come across a wallpaper or signature that has a lot of abstract and color to it, that motivates me to want to make something similar to that piece of work.

2. Renders. If I see a render that I really like, I find ways to make an awesome signature or wallpaper with it.

Usually I get inspiration from the stuff that happened that day...
SOmetimes from playing games (cool cutscenes etc.) or just by getting a sudden, "great" idea^^

I sometimes get inspiration from architecture/landscapes/cities. Often when I select a render I instantly associate it with a particular city, I then find a picture of said city and incorporate it into my background.

Artwork (as in art gallery artwork) is often a source of inspiration. Sometimes I include subtle references to particular art in my work and sometimes I try to express my take on the artwork such as if I see a painting with a very disturbing feel to it, I try to achieve the same feeling through my own work.

My inspiration comes from music and emotions.... I draw the best inspiration from emotions that is why i often ask a person what emotion they want portrayed in their request.... I take that emotion and wield it like a weapon... Channeling all focus on capturing that emotion. and then my mind forms the sig... even breaks it into various layers... idk its kinda weird but COOL
