Infractions for GIFs

If people using dirty words towards people (like cunt, etc) take place on here, then we should get to use gifs.

At least some gifs. :hmmm: I can understand when people use them far too much, but seriously, trying to ban people for it is a little over the top. :hmmm:

I'm with Cali on this one. Banning people for using a gif is a bit ludicrous with the slosh fest of other things that people do that can cause them to get in trouble with infractions or warnings on this forum like trolling and flaming, among other things. ...and to say someone using a gif would cause you to get yourself in trouble or say something bad is a bit ridiculous...I guess we all aren't responsible now for the responses we give or the things we type :wacky: Also, most gifs are in the spam section. If you don't like spam maybe you shouldn't be entering the...spam section...so you can read...spam (which may consist of gifs).

:damon:.

That made to much sense Mel, and spam isn't supposed to make sense.
But I will agree to a slight extent. Just spamming Gif's without do cause maybe should just result in a deletion of the post. Since post count is disabled it won't harm anything. Except the person's ego and maybe wondering why their post was deleted.

As much as I would love gifs to warrant infractions, it will never happen. Unless somebody is spamming them horribly in every thread. It is mostly found in the spam section, from the same people. To rehearse, Gifs will never warrant infractions unless they are spamming them like mad. It could be like when people spammed smileys in the sb and some of our browsers froze.

I guess if someone decides to post say, uhh, 50 gifs or so in one post in a thread full of gifs
This.

I only see a problem if it genuinely becomes an inconvenience to people such as ridiculous amounts of lag because of it and which I personally have been at the end of with smilies, especially in regards to excessive usage of smilies in the SB. In regards to the smilie limit, from what I can remember, there were people who reported it for actually lagging and then it was brought to HQ and discussed. I think the smilie situation was more renowned because of all the playing on it afterwards, rather than the decision itself. :wacky:

If there's a reason behind it which is causing people problems I'd agree with the limit, but if it's because the GIFs used aren't very good then I wouldn't agree with the limit. That person will only end up being ignored and/or getting a reputation for it anyway, so it backfires on themselves more than anything.

I still think gift should be limited people do just put gift after they should at least add text before the gift that they are posting :D

If you were to ban or infract someone for spamming in a spam section, I'd say that section is pretty useless to have :hmmm: GIFs are just images. They don't affect your "browser speed" etcetera, just the bandwidth required to load the entirety of the GIF. And if that's taking to long, just ignore the page. I don't care one way or another about them. If you don't like them, there's a handy extension on almost every browser called "AdBlock" and you can just AdBlock the image :monster: Everyone should just get along and just ignore a thread filled with Ke$ha's Desperate Housewives GIFs or whatever they are. No one's telling you to post in there or look at them. Like Cali said, if people can get away with repeatedly using the word "cunt," GIFs shouldn't be a problem. I'd say calling someone a "stupid fucking cunt" would be more offensive than posting a GIF. Or, you know, we can all post .JPEGs.

No.

However, if a post is nothing but multiple gifs, it'll probably get deleted or severely chopped down, much like a post that is nothing but smilies would. And that's regardless of what section it's in. Because, frankly, that's just frigging irritating. But using a single gif in a spam post multiple times in quick succession will not be made against the rules, much like doing the same with smilies isn't.

Tl;dr: We kinda already do this.

Also, since it's devolved into spam, thread killed.
