I made my new english teacher cry today

Mmm, I can see where you're coming from, but you can understand that watching a serious movie and to then hear some kids start laughing during it will upset people.

I admit that if I start hearing people laughing while watching such serious subject matter (and that did happen once, during the movie The Pianist we watched in history class about the Holocaust) I'd feel offended and think they were douches or something.

Although outright crying seems a bit extreme, but maybe the teacher knows someone with autism?

But I agree that the teacher shouldn't have said something like "I hope it happens to you". They're a teacher and they have an appearance to hold up. If they had probably just asked "what's so funny?" that's one thing, but personal insults like that isn't exactly proper conduct on their behalf.

Personally, I'm a wimpy wuss, and I'll cringe when the subject of a movies is about things like mental disabilities, rape, genocide, and the like. If I can avoid watching that stuff, I will >_>

The only time I laugh during a serious movie was to relieve tension. I remember how tense our class was a couple of years ago when we watched Hotel Rwanda and how there was one little scene that wasn't really funny, but it was hilarious compared to the rest of the movie. It made us all burst out laughing to relieve our tension.

Nobel peace prize ? will take that as a complement..
