How far have you gone for the Perfect Game?

Recently, I played FFII and spent about 6+ hours fighting random battles in the final area, trying to find one monster to complete the bestiary. It was....less than pleasant. Another one for me was leveling/drawing magic in FF8 just to beat Omega Weapon so I could get a 100% completion there.

So my question is, how far have you gone for the perfect game? What ridiculous things have you done in FF games to get those bragging rights?

Also, I apologize if someone has already posted a thread like this.

12 hours straight of blitzball. And I hate Blitzball with a passion. I was borderline time I finished... well, I had like, 4 matches left to play and I just couldn't face it anymore.

Got all the celestial weapons within 2 days. Never again. There's nowt like dodging lightning bolts and red butterflies to shave a few years off your life expectancy -__-

I usually don't try too hard for perfect games. I try to simply get everything as I go. If I have trouble finding specific monsters, then I'll go back later to try and find it (if I can go back). Items from chests are pretty easy though.

As a matter of fact, I just started a new game in X-2 a few days ago, and I'm going for 100%. After about 3 or 4 hours...I'm still in chapter 1. :gonk:

OMG...don't remind me. I have to do these things in my current game. I just did the butterfly hunt though. So now I have the stupid blitzball and lightning dodging. Put it this way, the lady won't even give me World Champion just yet. Is it sad that I'm also planning on maxing stats as well?

For the lightning dodging, I've been trying different techniques. The one I've found works the best is muting the sound and just going by the visual cues. I got 20 straight (most ever for me)!

I'm just so annoyingly stubborn, it's not even for bragging rights with me, I just hate trying summat and it mocks me when I fail... ugh. So that's it then, bee in bonnet and I HAVE to do it

yeah, I find it helps to mute the sound and turn the lights off in your room as well. The first time I did that, it took me months, I was just utter pish at it. Got there in the end. I refused to let it beat me :wacky: My most recent playthrough took me 4 attempts after all that earlier drama...

Ugh, the gabranth sky pirate medal wound me up as well. This is about the only thing I've ever thought, you know what, it's beat me. I CAN'T ACTUALLY DO IT /rage. I must have worked on that fuck forever as well, I was after getting the Blackhole concurence and I couldn't get it for shit. When I finally did, it was by complete fluke, I was after getting a different one... can't remember it's name, but it's the one you need to have 5 level 3 quickenings. I sat there for hours and hours... I refused to give in til I had it, especially as while I was trying I fluked Blackhole :wacky:

Oh my word. I've just rememebr the first time I chocographed.... easily one of the more frustrating things I've ever done. Locating the bubbles and some of the more obscure chocograph locations. I swear to fucking shit, I must have 'kweh'd' every square milimeter of that god damned fucking ocean trying to find the ocean chocograph :gonk:

Dark Bahamut. Ughhhhhhhh...... that is all :gonk:

I've wasted so many hours of my life trying to do some of this shite -__-

Dudette, I totally remember that shit. I remember getting up to the 80's and then missing and having to start that lightning shit over again.

And blitzball...well I got lucky with blitzball...I got that within the first 2-3 games I played...and I loved playing that game. Probably because I didn't have to play it for hours and hours.

I never usually bother aiming for a perfect game. When it comes to...err, well...anything, I tend to have a rather short interest span. After a while in a game, I just lose a lot of motivation to continue playing it and perhaps move on to something else. When it comes to the Final Fantasy games, if the final boss has been killed and the plot wraps itself up, I'm fine with ending it there. I do come back and tackle some of the sidequests, if any, but I never aspire to complete them all.

The only one time I tried to achieve a perfect game was years ago with FFX-2. At the time, the simple solution of watching the perfect ending on the internet never struck me yet, so I was literally crusading my way through the game to get that 100%. And God, did I hate it so much. Someone mention Commspheres again and I would want to break something. I remember trying to get that Lady Luck dressphere from the Sphere Break tournament. I'm still hopeless with that minigame - then again I'm generally hopeless with anything mathematically-orientated. I think I spent at least 30 hours on it alone. The bachelor guy in the Calm Lands had an excruciatingly daunting mission to do. Goodness knows how long I spent on that.

:holyshit: 12 HOURS! REALLY?. Right now I'm trying to accomplish everything beforge I go furter, and start fighting Sin...So far I have played 6 blitzball games (no wins :gonk: ) ...Think this is going to take me rest of this year :wtf:.
Not sure I want to max out stats...but will beat dark aeons, get 10 monsters of every area (only need from inside sin) and defeat all the creations from the arena, get overdrives (still nedd aurons last one)...and legendary weapons powered up.
This is my 1st play-through of FFX :cookie:

This.
Difference with me is that I actually really want to 100% these games... I just get bored and lose motivation. I do try though, and have done a fair amount in most games. It tends to be the irritating mini-games that get me in the end, or if I have to grind for certain areas or bosses.

FFX-2 was the easiest for me to slug through, because I could see clearly how much I'd done and how much was left to do.
I only managed 99% though. -__-
In the end I just couldn't bring myself to finish the Via Infinito.
100 floors my arse. :rage:

problby killing arena monsters trying to get dark matters for damage break limits in ffX.. then killing that one underwater creature in the arena to get the hp limit breaks for my characters plus maxing all my grid, filling all empty nodes with strength, hp, magic, magic defense, agility spheres, ect to max everyones stats.. Yep i went pretty hardcore in ffX lol..

Hahaha, I remember "kweh"ing in vain all the time :banghead: OMG sometimes that was absolutely miserable--and what I hated about the bubbles was that some of them are damn near impossible to line up properly--like the ones outside Quan's dwelling, I could see the bubbles RIGHT THERE :rage:, and yet it still wouldn't register when I hit the button unless I lined it up just exactly right :ffs: The second time I played through IX I just looked up the ones whose locations I couldn't remember in an FAQ, I just wanted a lot of the items and didn't want to deal with it anymore.

...Not to mention, the places that they show you in the "clues" don't look anything like the actual places sometimes :hmph: There was one offshore from the Oelivert continent that took absolutely freaking forever to figure out, because it was such a generic-looking piece of coastline.

Well along with the chocograph one, I also have gone crazy in my second playthrough of IX trying to level up my playing cards and collect all of the rare ones--and while some of them have become quite impressive, it's always really frustrating when I work with one forever and still can't get it to budge even one digit :sad3: There are quite a few of them like that, especially in the less powerful ones.

Also, in X, I went absolutely freaking nuts trying to gather things like Hypello Potions so that I could make a blade for Auron with every single element/attribute; however after realizing how long it took in comparison to every other ingredient I finally just gave up, after I think ten or so hours of grinding the local monsters that gave up those and other rare ones.

And I still haven't beaten XII yet because I'm trying to finish all the hunts, rare game (or whatever the Phon Coast thing is called), and secret Espers, as well as leveling up so that I can complete the Pharos Subterra, which is arguably one of the hardest areas I've ever tried to get through in a video game,
despite my being Level 83 with Bubble Belt/Protect/Shell on. And aside from the frogs and other nasty things kicking my ass down there (getting raped by a gang of giant frogs the second you step off an elevator...:gonk:), I didn't know the little glowy light things you can only get by defeating certain enemies had any value, so...I sold them :ffs: Yeah. And now I'm paying for it, because I don't have nearly enough to light all of the torches :hmph: Stupid completion need in my brain :sad3:

9 hours. It was from trying to defeat Yiazmat in Final Fantasy XII, mostly to complete the list of defeated marks, but also to leave just two more bosses to beat after that to get a 100% completed bestiary. Unfortunately, those 9 hours were all for naught when Yiazmat just began raining hell on my ass when he has just what, 10,000-20,000 HP left? That was a BIG slap in the face for me. I promised my friend that I would try again to beat him, but I haven't tried since then. Figured I'd train my party some more or go look for that hidden boss that's in the Giruvegan Crystal (that you can't fight till after you accept the mark hunt of Yiazmat.)

Eh, I'm more a story kind of gal. I get bored with grinding and finding items... only way I'll do that is if there are extra scenes as a prize. Ultimate weapons? Forgeeeeet it.

I don't know if that counts as a perfect game, but I once did a low-level game in FFVI until I get the appropriate espers and the brought up all 12 character to level 99 (except Gogo and Umaro) while boosting their magic power and/or strength with bismack, zone seeker, tritoch and raiden.

I don't remember how much hours I spent levelling but by the end it was really boring. And I did that almost for nothing because the is no superboss in this game and kefka is pretty easy when a level 2 magic do 9999 damage.

I would probably count the thunder dodge too.

But about grinding,FF doesn't have thant MUCH,so I don't know. I would probably say other games, like Shin Megami Tensei,or DQ or Star Ocean.

Man,the Dungeon with 211 floors on Star Ocean 3 was insane. It was repetitive, boring to hell sometimes, and most of the chests were just empty.I think spent more than 30 hours on it,because when I beat the game, the clock was around 80,and when finished the secret boss of it,around 100,110.
Freya in Hard/Very hard mode may be just impossible for mortals, that's why I just fought against her in normal, and was already hard.

DQ7 had a lot of grinding,I remember grindind about 5,6 hours sometimes too, leveling the jobs to defeat some bosses.

And most of the SMTs have too,at least all the ones I played. Had to grind insanely to kill some Nocturne's/Persona's bosses too.

The one playthrough of X where I tried get all the celestial weapons and their seals and crests and all the limit breaks. I don't know what the time on that was, but the lightning dodging was grueling.... and it seems like about 20 hours of blitzball getting Wakka's stuff.

I have never tried going for 100% an FF game before, until FFX. I have been able to get all the Celestial Weapons, all the Al Bhed Primers, finished the Monster Arena (and beat Nemesis), got everyone's stats at 255 (except for Luck, and max HP and MP.) and finished the game. The only thing left I have to do is get everyone's Luck stat to 255 and fill out the rest of the Sphere Grid with HP and MP spheres.

I don't care about maxing out the Blitzball team, I just wanted to get all of Wakka's Overdrives (and Jupiter Sigil) and be done with it.

The reasons why for this: I have clocked in 130 hours on this game, and the story was getting to me near the end of it. I don't really want to replay it anytime soon.

I've gone for 100% a few times in FF games...I went absolutely insane getting every card in Triple Triad in FFVIII, although that was more out of an addiction to the card game than it was wanting to get 100%...

My FFX file has an insane number of hours on it as well, from where I tried to max the Sphere Grid out for everyone, including getting their stats to 255. But when I realised I wasn't going to get Wakka's Ultimate Weapon (I can't play Bliztball for shit) I kinda just gave up. Which I probably shouldn't have, since asides from Blitzball I was pretty much done with it. But I was getting absolutely sick of the game at that point. xD

I fully intended to Platinum FFXIII, but...well, its FFXIII.

Urgh! i had a hard enough time tryin to beat that T-rexsaur or whatever its name is back in Basch's (Old) hometown, not to mention Gilgamesh.

I'm just not pro enough :(

I usually try to complete every game thoroughly – 100%, especially a FF title. With that said, the only game I can remember trying to do perfectly was FFVIII. I spent around 12+ straight hours just doing random battles maxing out all of my characters and GF’s, and another 8+ hours on a different day completing the Queen of Cards sidquest (pain in the ass always having to track her down) to obtain at least one of every card.
