Just wanted to say Hi to everyone. Just for information my favorite Final Fantasy is 12, second favorite 15. All the new changes that Square Enix are making to the re-release of Final Fantasy XII are really making me nervous. I'm afraid the changes might ruin it. (it hasn't stopped me from pre-order the first game I have ever pre-ordered. All my other games I waited to get used copies.)

Nothing can beat the originals is what I always say. ;) Welcome to the forum! Who's your favourite character in XII? It's a great game!

I liked the board system that allowed me to switch abilities any time I wanted and allowed me to give any weapon to any of the characters. I could assign a character a sword for one battle and a javelin or gun for the next and a bow and arrow after that. I enjoyed seeing how each character wielded each weapon differently. Also, it gave me the ability to give each character a strong healing capability. They changed to a system that locks the characters into one ability group through the whole game making them strong in one area and weaker in all the others. I don't know if that allows the exchange of weapons or restricts each character to one weapon group like in Final Fantasy XV. The old system made all the characters equally strong. The new one sounds like it hobbles the characters in any other area other then the weapon group they are assigned. I also read that they said the old version was too hard to get through from beginning to end so they made it easier. There is also talk about changing the battles somehow but articles on that are vague on how. I'm just hoping they didn't take what I thought was the best in the series and take away its power. Yes it was a tough game to get through but that's what made it great. I remember the first boss battle it took me 12 hours and countless defeats to get through but after the feeling was so fantastic. I've yet to feel that same level of enjoyment in any of the other Final Fantasy games. XV is great but it has no teeth It took me all of an hour to get through what I think was the first boss battle. I hope all the changes they are making doesn't take away all the things that made it such a thrill to play. We will see when it's released next month.

Corporate meddling gave us Vaan. I reckon that if Square were to make FFXII from scratch now, they wouldn't hesitate to have Basch as the lead given how much more important the western market when compared with the stagnant and slowly shrinking Japanese market.

Still, as inconsequential as Vaan turned out to be, I acknowledge that seeing the world through his perspective during the first third of the game has merits. Vaan serves as our lens to see the world through the eyes of a commoner who has experienced tragedy as a result of war, and his lofty ambition of being a sky pirate aptly reflects the sentiment of a downtrodden youth forced to try and eke a living in a scarred and subjugated kingdom. He's also that voice of conscience symbolically representing the little man who helps persuade Ashe from allowing that deep-seated desire for vengeance to make that fatal mistake of causing the Ivalice equivalent of nuclear armageddon on another kingdom whose inhabitants are no more culpable than the folks of Rabanastre. Or maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Welcome anyhow! o/

I never thought of it like that, but your right. One thing I thought a lot about after I was done with the game, I think it could have had a better ending. Vaan and Penelo got their own sky ship, Balthier and Fran when on to do whatever they were doing before it all started, Ashe got her kingdom back and war ended. Everyone got their happy ending except Basch. Basch's brother, Noah, died at the end, his name was never cleared and everyone went on to think of him as a traitor, instead of taking his rightful position as captain of the guard of Dalmasca he had to impersonate his brother as guard of Archadia. At one point in the ending they said that Basch was told the time was not right to clear his name. I really thought that was so unfair, but it would make for a great follow up game to 12 like they did 2 follow up games to 13. Maybe if this re-release is successful they might consider that - maybe call it Final Fantasy XII: Basch's Story.

I look forward to it. I haven't had a forum to enjoy in a long time. I love my games and people around me don't get into games as much as I do and some think I'm nuts for getting into the story line of a game and caring about the individual characters like I do. I don't just rush through a game. I enjoy every part and every aspect of it. I've read about people completing Final Fantasy XV in a day or two. I'm at 500 hours and counting because I revisit areas and explore every inch of the world in the game. I drag it out because when I like a game I don't want it to end quickly and if I really like it I play it again and again - the same way - immersed in the entire experience.
