So, I'm home schooled, been home schooled my whole life..

I took a GED practice test for Grammar and Literature. I got it graded and it was 80% is that good, bad, terrible, or just okay?

I'm only asking because I really have no idea.

Thanks :3

80% is a high B, 5% off an A. It's a very good result, above average. If you're getting that result, you're doing well.

Really? Awesome. You don't know how happy I am to hear that. I love Literature and Grammar so I'm happy to hear it's good.

80% is a really encouraging score. It's not quite an A, so it's not necessarily an amazing mark. However, if that was a practice exam, you have opportunities to look back over and see what you did wrong or didn't include - so you can improve on that next time.

Well done! Grammar & Literature really isn't an easy thing to be tested on. ^_^

Wow, thanks .Swift. That's helpful. And I'm glad I'm not a total idiot.

Now Cali, I'm guessing you're in the United States, correct? An 80 is a B- here. A 90 would be an A- and naturally a 100 is an A+. Personally, I think a B- is a good grade. If you were in honors classes in school, you need a B- or higher to get the honors credit to your Grade Point Average (GPA).

I wish I could get a B- in English and Literature. :( I do fine with writing and grammar, but I'm not a fan of reading, so my grade takes a hit. :mokken:

Yea, I'm in America. And my mom told me it was a B- but I wasn't sure if that was good or not. What are honors?

Personally, I think a B- is a good grade. Basically, it'll be viewed as A being an awesome grade, B is good, then C is mediocre. If English and Lit. are weak subjects for you, then a B- is very good! I almost failed English my senior year of high school, but passed with a D (65-69). I typically got C's in weaker subjects and was in the A- to B range (92-83) for my stronger ones. English and Lit. can be tough subjects, even for ones that know it, so I think a B- is a very good grade.

Honors classes are basically just higher leveled versions of the classes. Basically if you were in honors English, it would be the same English class that others of your grade are taking, but more challenging (or so it's supposed to be, some teachers make it a little easier). For math and science, there are different types, like Algebra vs. Calculus, Chemistry vs. Physics, that determine the level, as well as being honors. But the only real difference is that you get more credit towards your GPA for honors classes, so long as you get a B- or higher, otherwise it's the same. And you could get dropped from honors if you don't maintain a high enough average.

Ahh, I see. Thanks.

So, since I'm home schooled I can't really have an honors class, lol

I guess not, but I know absolutely nothing about home school, so maybe it's possible. The GPA is more of a big deal for trying to get into colleges and such, but I'm guessing they look at different factors if you're home schooled. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to ask! :ryan:

I'm surprised by some of the responses here. 80% sounds like a great mark and at least in A Levels (the main higher education system in the UK) it's right on an A.

At my University 70% is First Class and is the highest level you can achieve.

Basically my point here is that 80% has to be taken into context of the difficulty, course and how other people are doing. It can tell you though, 80% is a high mark and you should be proud of it. At least it is taken in the context of the education system I've been exposed to.

That's great to hear. Because, honestly, I was proud of it. It's the first time I've tried my hand at a GED and and 80% seemed great to me. So I'm happy that it actually is good.

Wow, lol, I've never met anyone that's been home schooled.

What's that like? :gasp:

And I would say 80% is fairly good? I mean it's 20% off hundred, so... Anything above 60% should be in the Definite Okay zone, right?

I dunno if it's different since your home schooled and well, I wasn't. Back when I was in school 80% is a border line from a B or an C. Of course it's fairly good and I would be proud of that as well ^_^It's just an B over where im at. Not a B- but just a B. B- I think is 81-84%. 85% is B+ and so forth. I say congrats though! I'm glad ya did so well =].

Is being home schooled easy?
I wouldn't know because i've never been home-schooled but I always wanted to be :mokken:

Lol, I always love reactions from people after I tell them I'm Home schooled. But No, it's not easy, probably harder in my opinion.

I've got one teacher(my mum) she's a trained anthropologist so that makes her a great teach. It also means she knows what she's talking about. So, no it's not easy.

I mean, I use to talk to a friend over XBox and he had no idea what 1984, The Animal Farm, or The Devine Comedy/Dante's Inferno was. I was surprised because that's what my mum assigned me to read for Literature. And they're, like, huge books, so I guess I'm doing better than most.

I also, use some College degree books. And Sometimes I used 10th-12th grade books before I was even supposed to actually be in those grades.

As of now, I'm in a College History book that my Uncle gave my mum.

So it's up to you whether or not it's hard.

Annd, I won't lie, it is better than actually being in a school. I don't have to deal with peer pressure as much as regular kids my age nor do I have any jerks to run into.

And honestly, I've seen School lunches, they're disgusting looking. At least at home I get to have what I want, lol. And I don't have to ask to go to the bathroom, so that's a good thing.

Home schooling environment sounds to be far less tense than regular school. I just can't imagine myself being home-schooled. It's impossible to skip class! And you can't read books in the middle of class.:wacky:

By the way, 80% is a very good score in my standards. Of course, it also depends on the difficulty level of the test you took.

I would still definitely go to a school despite all the positives you posted. School is where you meet people, it's easy to and I've made great friends there. Some of my best times have been mucking about at school so I'm not sure I'd be wiling to give that up for nicer food and bathroom breaks whenever I wanted.
