I don't know if this has been discussed before, but I'm playing FFVIII now, and I just have to ask. WHY does Fujin always speak "LIKE THIS?"

It's really annoying. "...REQUEST." "AFFIRMATIVE" "...FATIGUED"

Why is it all in caps? It makes no sense D=

Maybe to act really tough? Remember in Lunatic Pandora, when Seifer took his 'dream' too far after battling Squall? She started to talk normally, which gives the impression that she only does it as part of Seifer's gang. Well....that's my intake anyway.

I read somewhere that in the Japanese version, Fujin speaks only in single kanji (although you can still convey a meaning through kanji alone) - so that may have to do with why she speaks in all caps and not in complete sentences. But didn't she give a little speech to Seifer in Disc 3 as well? I don't remember the exact lines though. I think they just tried to make her character more unique by programming her that way, but I could be wrong. I really don't know.

Thats true. In the Japanese version she indeed only speaks in kanji.
It kind of gives the impression she's speaking Chinese.
Of course this is hard to translate, so they chose this way which works out fine.
Although it makes her look like some Neanderthal person that cant say more than 2 words. And its looks like she's shouting all the time.

I just always assumed she was shouting, and it kind of annoyed me because it just made her look stupid to me....I guess the above posts make it make sense though....I just wish I could turn it off and make it normal instead of caps lock all the time D:

both of them have certain characteristics that make them them... so the shouting, and raijins *like* on the end of everything...which makes them inferior to seifer in the gang.

I don't think their characteristics make them inferior...Seifer himself does. And anyway, Raijin says: 'ya know?' at the end of every sentence, not 'like'. I'm not sure about the Kanji translation; Fujin was expressed in the same way in Kingdom Hearts 2 as well, so perhaps that's how she talks all or most of the time.

I don't think it makes them inferior either. It's no big deal really it just makes her a little more interesting. I found Raijin's characteristics to be a little more interesting than Fujin's though. Raijin's "y'know?" expressed his character better than Fujin's CAPS LOCK.

It annoyed me too, always made her seem she was constantly constipated or something. They could have pulled off the same effect, personality-wise, without all the caps.

I liked the way that she spoke- it was like she put a lot of thought into her speech to condense it into one or two words, whereas Raijin seemed to witter away, using far too many words. I think it helped to show the difference between Raijin and Fujin

Fujin is just one of those people who needs to have capslock turned on to get attention.

Nah, but as most people already said, it's just something that adds to her personality. She's an extreme forward person apparently.

Haha, my love for Minor characters really shines through when I say that Fujin is my second favorite character in FFVII. ;D I was just attracted to how unique she was, as all minor characters usually are.

So little about her is known... it makes her mysterious.

Yeah, I never really liked it either...

It made me think she's shouting all the while. I think the caps is what really ruined it. The words-for-sentences style was ok. I think "Persuasion. Useless. Seize" would sound a whole lot better and elegant compared to to "PERSUASION. USELESS. SEIZE".

And it seriously freaked me out when she started speaking in sentences in disk three - "Oh you speak English now?" :)

I dont see it as that big of deal, it makes her a little different from any other character in the game. Even tho it is kinda stupid.

i never understodd really either, as someone else said it could be to do with trying to look tough for seifer and the gang, or maybe it was a sercret crush with squall and she was to shy to say anything untill then :P

I don't really know why they decided to have each word in all caps, but I thought that Fujin spoke like that because she was the type of person who believed that actions were stronger than words. At least, that's what I thought. Sort of straight to the point without adding a bunch of fluff that would hinder the feeling. Of course, she needed to speak in full sentences in order to get through to Seifer. Can you imagine how that scene would've played out if she spoke as she normally does? XD

I think she just learned to speak laconically ! Put the meaning of the entire sentance into one word!
...as for the shouting...well I think it's so she can seem superior in front of Raijin! I mean how else can a girl like her bend a 100kg of muscle to her will?!
:cactaur:

To the person who said they had extreme love for minor characters - me too! I loved Fujin AND Raijin. In fact, Seifer and his "posse" were my most favourite aspect of FF8.

Anyways... I personally found Fujin's way of speach oddly entertaining. When she finally broke and gave Seifer that long speach at the end of disc 3 (?) I found it very, very endearing and sweet.

"POSSE... We are. We always will be. Because we're a posse, we want to help you. Whatever it takes to fulfill your dreams, we're willing to do. But... You're being manipulated, Seifer. You've lost yourself and your dream. You're just eating out of someone's hand. We want the old you back! Since we can't get through to you, all we have now to rely on is Squall! It's sad... Sad that we only have Squall to rely on... Seifer! Are you still gonna keep goin'? "

Come on, how can you not find that even just a little bit cute?

As has already been written here i think it was more to do with putting thought into each word than looking tough. When she does give Seifer that little speech it has much more impact because she hardly ever talks.

Its like people who shout all the time, no one takes them seriously. But when a normally calm person shouts you know you should take notice
