My hair has started to really dry out lately. I know I should be trimming it once a month, but my hair grows incredibly slowly and it's at the perfect length right now, so I'm scared to get it trimmed. When I do go to get the ends cut off, it's never just a trim. They literally give me a haircut, and I don't need that. So I've been searching all over the internet and asking friends and family what I can put in my hair to decrease the dryness.

I've heard avocado work, and eggs, and mayonnaise... I've even heard olive oil works.

I've never tried any of these myself due to fear of ruining my hair (especially with the mayonnaise), but I do find it all pretty interesting.

What have you tried? Did it work?
Also, what are some silly tips and tricks to healthier hair have you heard about? In magazines, through the interent, on tv.... anything.

I wouldn't dare put food on my hair, it would be gross. Imagine the smell if bits of it got stuck in your hair, especially like, Mayonnaise.

I've heard of people putting olive oil in their hair...but only to kill nits.

Personally, I'd steer well clear of foods and just get a re-moisturizing conditioner. They can work wonders for dry hair.

I have a cousin who dyes her hair all of the time, and it looks and feels really smooth. She told me if it gets bad, she just leaves conditioner in her hair for a whole night wrapped in a towel and it'd get better in a week.
I really hope that works -.-

Well I never said I was going to do it. I actually said I was too chicken shit to do it. I just found the whole idea interesting so I made a thread about it.

Ive heard random things, the main being the mayo and the olive oil. I just use tablets for my hair. Eating spinich and beans are good for your hair, but to eat not slap on your head. Ill quiz my cousin, a hairdresser and post more later!

when I have a shower and I wash my hair, I leave the conditioner in til Im done, I have really dry hair too, I just get serums and things for frizz, my hairs like a hay stack, also, try leave in conditioners

Im with these lot abpout food and your hair, just dont do it :gonk:

I would suggest going to a salon and buying their expensive shampoos and conditioners. They do work.

I've noticed how much better they are to your regular supermarket hair products.

Or you could go to a pharmacy and look in the medicated hair section.

They're bound to have something in relation to your problem.

I was watching Ellen earlier today and a woman poured maple syrup in her hair. She said it would increase shine and make it feel smooth.
She also put foods on her face for her skin and feet.

I somewhat agree with Kandy about the expensive products, they ARE worth it, but I use them in travel sized bottles for when Im going away or going out, other than that Ive found an absolutely cracking stores own brand, its a cheap take on that aussie forumula but its a fraction of the price AND it's good, my hairs texture improved so much from using that and now I use it all the time, though if you dont get lucky like that, buying the expensive stuff is the way to go Im afraid

Also, natural products yes. Food out of your cupboards. No. Shit might work for this Ellen bird, but we all have different skin and hair, if I put ANYTHING on my face (I tried yogurt once hahaha) I come out in an awful rash, I cant use Imperial leather soap either, so it's just about experimenting and findiong out whats right for your own needs

I just would never ever ever put anything on my body that was meant for eating, I just dont trust it after the yoghurt incident, but then Ive got sensitive skin

Imagine how much of an arse it would be to get syrup out of your hair, its sticky stuff, you'd probably have to shampoo it about 3 or 4 times to get it all out, and surely that can't be any good for your barnet

mayonnaise...
Funny story here. When I was about 12, I got a bad case of lice from a cousin, and everyone swore up and down that mayonnaise was a great way to get it out. (Too damned cheap to buy the lice removal stuff.) Seeing as how I was 12, and didn't exactly have a choice, it was put in my hair... They never told me how long it had to stay in there... 3 hours. So for three hours I had mayo in my hair and refused to come out of the bathroom. (GAMEBOY FTW!)

When it was taken out, the lice were in fact all dead, but everyone noticed that my hair was shiny as hell and strangely healthy. Almost as if I never had dead ends to begin with.

So in my opinion, I supposed mayonnaise works, even if it does stink.

I don't think virgin coconut oil counts as food, but it was effective for me. There are hair products who use it as the base, so I suggest looking out for them. I used it back when I was in high school.

Once a week, just apply it from root to tip and keep it on for 20 minutes or so--it does wonders. :gonk: Downside to this though, is that it can cause dandruff if you don't rinse it out thoroughly. Other than that, it's good. It smells alright and leaves it quite shiny and soft the rest of the week.

I was actually thinking about that. Everyone is different, so things would work differently. That actually applies to most everything; losing weight, acne treatments, etc. etc.
