When you reach the open ended part of Final Fantasy XIII you can take on monster hunting missions. Daisuke Inoue, Final Fantasy XIII Battle Planner, designed these side quests with four rules.
1.) They should never force the player characters to equip any specific accessories.
2.) They should never require players to use TP abilities* to defeat them.
*(TP abilities are special skills such as Quake, Libra, and summons.)
3.) They should never require the player to use healing items to defeat them.
4.) They should never require the player to use shrouds* to defeat them.
*(Shrouds or smokes are buffing items you can use before encounters.)
“I can assure you that the mission monsters were designed first and foremost to present players with a real challenge,” said Inoue. “So much so, in fact, that our producer Mr. Kitase even came to us complaining he could not beat some of them and had no idea what to do, despite fighting with none of the handicaps mentioned above.”

Monster missions are the main after-the-credits-roll content in Final Fantasy XIII. Expect a challenge, if you decide to keep playing.

The monsters are that hard that even Kitase wilted when he tried to fight them? :lew: This should be really interesting to try out then. I'm actually looking forward to facing these tough monsters. It will probably be frustrating, but you'll certainly be feeling warm and fuzzy inside whenever you do kill a crushingly difficult quarry.

And I expect a lot of these crushingly difficult quarries as well because Kitase (or someone else) did say quite a few will be much harder than the final boss.

Yay for challenge! I'll be throwing my controller in frustration, but it'll all be worth it when I finally kill these things.

I can only imagine how hard they'll be if Kitase is having trouble taking them out, but I'll be looking forward to this challenge, even if it brings my closer to borderline the more I try :wacky: I'm guessing this'll be the most challenging FF so far. Sounds dead exciting. :8F:

Omg yes Just what I wanted :awesome: If Kitase is having trouble killing the mission monsters in XIII then I guess this will be the most challenging Final Fantasy yet. I cant wait to play and get all the acheievements and Defeat these tough monsters to earn em. OMG 7 DAYS :woo:

I'll believe the statements about the difficulty when I play the game for myself - standards for difficulty in games these days are pathetically low. There always seems to be an assumption in the works that the creators of the game are those who will be able to play it the most competently...still, optional bosses in Final Fantasy games are usually either ridiculously over-the-top or a massive letdown...hopefully it'll be the former case for the ones in FFXIII, but I won't hold my breath.

Good to know it won't be a breeze when facing off against them. Seems similar to the Hunts in FFXII and the Monster Arena in FFX, but I was a big fan of those side-quests so this will no doubt be right up my alley.
