Hey guys I've been checking the sales it got till now (at vgchartz.com, you might as well take a look at this web site if you haven't already, it contains sales of a lotta games you can imagines) and summing up both PS3 and XBox360 sales, the last results are these impressive 5,90M!!! :holyshit: (I predict sales will increase to 6M till the end of this year)

Sales like these are bigger than XII (5,71M) or IX (5,30M) even X-2 (5,21M), being at the 4th place overall in the series.

While fans disliked XIII for reasons we have discussed over time, I realized that FF main fanbase is still pretty active after all these 20 years. It may take only some muscles to SE try do better next time (if they're willing to), because loyal fans like us they won’t find anywhere if they screw up again.

As it mainly pertains to FFXIII, I'll go ahead and move this to its section. :)

The only thing I didn't like about ffxiii was the fact that they made it so easy to get killed that they had no choice but to make it so if you did die that you just started back up where you left off..

Basically they made save points useless in this game because you get healed after every battle and if you die you just start right back up again...I missed getting excited for save points in this game as i did in all the others..Infact maybe thats why there are so many of them, because other than being able to turn off your counsel they mean nothing..

Other than that great game though.. Loved the paradgrams? shifts.. And I don't think its anywhere near the worst ff i've played.. i"m glad it sold well

nice! i think it sold so well because it brought a lot of new people to the FF fanchise, like me! :D i never liked a FF and never thought i would, but the FFXIII trailer really got me thinking, and now i love FF.

To me it's way too warmth for a Final Fantasy. Two of the main factors that actually gave it some light were characters and graphics. The fact of being so cinematic, so linear, so predictable, so limited in terms of freedom of exploration, doesn't appeal my taste. And my taste for RPGs comes essentially from FFs. It has the right franchise to be a FF but it fails to give something instead it show way too much. XIII would be a much better game if it wasn't a FF. But that's my opinion solely.

Well you must be the first person I met for your reasons! hardcore fans weren't this receptive like you are. Btw, is this the first time you do play a RPG in general, or you did experienced western RPG like Fable?

prior to FF the only rpgs i have played were pokemon and Fable2.

Its Final Fantasy, of COURSE its going to ship by the truckload. I'd put it down to the hype and controversy surrounding the game, as well as how long we had to actually wait for it, and not as an indication of how good or bad the game may be...but then, I'm almost ashamed I bought the game, so I would say that.

Numbers don't surprise me at all. Put a famous label on something and give it an advert on TV that is played non-stop for a couple of weeks and it'll sell by the millions regardless of how good or bad it is. This game could have gotten poor reviews from every games magazine in existence - as it so rightly deserved - and it'd STILL rack up those kinds of numbers.

I think its mainly down to the pricing,I mean the other day it was down to $18 on amazon..........$18 for an FF that was made this year!.........now that sounds like a bargain I'm sure ots got new players...........but I'd say thats down to the popularity of the series.

$18 for the latest PS3 FF game sure does sound good.

I think actually the sales could of been even higher but because of the bad reviews and feedback (even though i loved it) I think people just bought a pre-owned FFXIII.

FFXIII sold so well because of the incredible publicity and advertising it was getting. I mean, there were pictures of Lightning on London buses, it just gets people pretty excited. It's just a shame that the game turned out to be to the series what MGS4 was to Metal Gear - a massive mistake that should never have had money spent on.

The fact that this went multiplatform opened up Final Fantasy to a lot more people...which they thought would hook more people to the series. I personally don't see them releasing it on the 'bawx being bad...and I think that is was multiplatform led up to the game selling so well...as it could reach more people's hands.

This is pretty much my opinion but not as eloquently put :P
Pluss FF does have hardcore fans world wide who,as a fan, wouldnt bye it?
Unfortunantly It was a great disapointment to most of its main fanbase, while on the otherhand alot of "new" fans tended to rather like it I have found. ...
Perhaps do to the fact "new" fans expect things to be easy for them
When I think of the ways I could have liked it I still get dissapointed by it

Heh, maybe I'm one of those people who acutally does love FFXIII (despite its flaws). Then again, there's no way you can please all fans. Whenever SE tries to do something new, fans of the old series start to complain. I'm pretty sure you can't stick to the same old thing with every game, otherwise it just gets boring. Then, fans will start to complain about that. You can never please everyone. It's normal. SE tried hard (to me anyway) with FFXIII. And to be honest, I think it turned out great.

The reason most fans of the old FF dislike This particular one wait let me edit this the reason I dislike this one is mainly because the charecters barring Fang and Sazh spark no emotion in the player they are emotionless, as an RPG I think It should be mandatory for a charecter to compell feelings in the player this game in no way did that....Otherwise I would almost forgive other flaws with it...

Personally,I'm not a real fan of the futuristic FFs,beside 6 and 7. Just don't think 8 and 10 are really that great. (although I don't like the extremelly oldschool games of Nes age one's too, although I's remakes were kinda good)

But I DO like 13,a lot.

The battle system was nice, fastest ATB ever, along with 10-2.It was fun to play and was totally fresh.
The sountrack was awesome too, catchy musics and all...(Saber's edge is definitely on of my favorite boss themes in series)and the characters were really good and well developed(besides Vanille, hate her more than Selphie).

The publicity was great, and the hype, greater, but the game itself is really good as well. What's the point of playing the same stuff again? (by saying it I meant traditional world maps with characters of the size of mountains depending totally on airships and boats to move through it,maps that showed the whole world, but could be crossed in less than 30 seconds)

FF was, like,ALWAYS known for the franchise's capacity to renew, recreate and get reborn in each released game, and 13 is totally worth of carrying it's name.
