Hi, I recently acquired FF8 for PC but it's giving me quite a few problems. First it would crash when I selected new game. I googled some stuff and was told to run it as an administrator. I did this, and then it crashed after the opening fmv. I have tried every compatibility mode, and have downloaded the whats-it-called 1.2 patch that is supposed to fix the problems. I even tried copying the exe file into a new folder in the game directory (all advice from several websites). I just cannot get past the opening sequence into the first scene where Squall wakes up in the infirmary. The game simply crashes and says "ff8.exe has stopped working". I have Vista SP2, with hardware and graphics I highly doubt are under par for a game as old as FF8. I am now sitting with a game that I am unable to play. Could anyone help me out?

Problem I see right now.. Vista SP2... I think that inless you get a Vista with FAT 32 in it, you wont be able to run it, I had trouble running it on the XP's had to tinker with them a lot.. I know this doesn't help, I'm just going guess that Vista is way too new to run FFVIII

I'm beginning to think that myself...what a waste :(
Though I've heard of people getting it up and running, though they were not experiencing the same problem as I am and I'm finding it difficult to find a solution pertaining to my particular issue.

have u tried running the game in comparability mode as windows xp service pack 3 :) just checking...

another option would be to try reinstalling it :wacky:

Yes, I agree with the compatability mode. Keep checking google because they (being computer people) usually come up with the tweeks that help run older programs. Successfully played Diablo II on Vista with some time of checking and unchecking boxes.

Dammit, I was going to suggest compatibility mode xP Yeah, right click on ff8.exe and go to properties, then click on compatibility and check "Run this program in compatibility for:" and choose what might work. XP generally ran those games. I had no problems with Final Fantasy VII on my Windows XP SP3 computer way back when I first played it.

I had the same problem when I was running Vista on my laptop... But since then I got Windows 7 and now it runs smoothly with no problems at all.
I don't know what I did differently apart from leaving Vista... Best thing I ever did x.o It hardly ran any of my games (some are pretty old, but still!).

Thanks, I'm thinking of upgrading to W7 soon so hopefully that'll solve my problems! I don't have a compatibility option for XP SP3 on my list, it only goes up to SP2...and that one doesn't work! Will try it out on W7 :)

I hope that it works for you like it did for me!!
I remember how disappointed I was I couldn't get it running before... But seriously, all my games work on W7 when then didn't on Vista, so I think it could be the solution to your problem.

Good luck!

*Fingers crossed*
