We all play these games for a large portion of our lives and absorb a lot of info hitpoints at variouse levels attack power of weapons defence bonuses of armour where we might find variouse monsters and the like. But do we pay a price for this knowledge, what I would'nt give for the ability to forget all I know of FF and start again.

Are you trying to say that knowing a lot about FF games robs them of some of their appeal, as such fimiliarity doesn't exactly breed contempt, but rather makes them duller.
If so I'd disagree on the principle that I think that is true with most things in life, repitition of almost anything means that it is less enjoyable than the first time. As the emotions experienced, become more used to it etc.

If you are saying that having a vast knowledge robs you of a meaningful social life, I wouldn't know. As I don't have a particularly large FF knowledge. I would however suggest that it could in some circumstances, but it wouldn't apply to all people.

Personally i think because people have the knowledge of the games it makes them easier, for Example During my first play through of FFVII i didn't collect any of the level 4 limits, Vincent, Yuffie, Hades materia (and the other items from the sunken plane) and also the Key of the ancients (thing in the underwater tunnel which you need to progress so i gave up) but nowadays i know exactly how to collect Yuffie,Vincent and all these other items also the golden chocobo and master materia's. KOTR is one of the first things i collect with my golden chocobo .

so i think we do tend to pay the price on all of our knowledge but it doesn't really matter because they are fun non the less.

Well if your referring to whether or not knowledge of FF makes the games seem dull, than I'd say no. I prefer to know what I'm doing initially so I spend less time adjusting to the game.

The real question here is; is it the knowledge which is making the game seem dull or the fact that you've played the game enough to gain that knowledge? Personally I'd go with the latter, if I was to memorize a guide before playing a game for the first time I would most likely still find it interesting as opposed to if I played it 25 times to gain that knowledge.

If what you are asking is whether or not knowledge over FF has an impact on our social life;

I wouldn't know. As I don't have a particularly large FF knowledge. I would however suggest that it could in some circumstances, but it wouldn't apply to all people.

what he said :monster:

If I was to interpret your question in a much more literal sense I'd say my knowledge cost me roughly $50 (AUS) per game.

I think along these lines a lot. I don't like having the knowledge of all the best Materia combos/junctions, whatever. Going straight for the beaches of Balamb with I-Mag-Rf to get a load of Water spells is quite fun, but it just makes things so easy.

I would pay a lot of money to have some of the FF games, as well as a few movies erased from my memory, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind style!

:math:I just went to wikipedia and and looked at quantum chromodynamics......OK? This was just a point i felt like sharing with you guys & gals, is playing a ff game 1st or 2nd time around not as fulfiling as when you play it with knowledge, along the lines that it makes you feel confident to know you can do things right the first time? or you like to use certain set ups of character/weapons, Imean for me one of the best things i looked forward to is that at some point i will get a kick ass airship like the ragnarok or theeeee hildagard 3....mack!

I suppose there's the thrill to playing it the 1st time but knowing what your doing is far better, i wouldn't have none of my FF memories erased. They don't make me seem dull unless i'm talking to someone who hasn't played but then thats understandable. And as for the lengh it takes me to complete the game i could probably save my self anywhere up to 10 hours.

Also my FF knowledge has made me some money mainly from my mates who were stuck at a certain part and they asked me to do it but they also paid me to do it which is kinda dumb of them but it's all good.

I'm sure everybody, everywhere, has a vast knowledge, whether it be regarding part of their career, social life, or hobbies/interests. I couldn't imagine it being a negative thing knowing a significant amount of information regarding any one thing, or a multitude of things. It gives what you're doing or interested in more meaning, and significance. Or it's simply that it's important, and necessary. Yes, knowing a lot about something can result in it becoming dull, repetitive, or even boring, but that seems to be the way life goes, whether it's knowledge for your job, or a videogame, or whatever else it may be.

Regarding a social life, sure, knowing a shite load of information about a particular video game, or video games in general, or even movies, TV series, novels, etc. may possibly take away from a 'social life', but that all depends. Some people would consider playing Xbox Live as a major part of their social life, while others would only consider going 'out', spending money on overpriced food and/or drink, and seeing friends as a social life. If you're a gamer, generally playing games, and knowing about games would result in a social life. That social life could be playing online, getting together and playing games, or even posting in forums. It really depends on a lot of things.

But technically, I've skimmed over a scientific article discussing various things to do with retaining information, and how knowing a vast amount of it can make it difficult to remember past information simply because it's stored somewhere in the millions of file within your brain, and there's simply so many your brain struggles to find that one in particular. But don't quote me on that, as I said, I only skimmed over the article.

I think it's almost like watching a movie or reading a book. You know a character will inevitably do or think something stupid, and you think or yell "No, don't!" even though you know they will anyway. There's still that same thrill of "What if they didn't? What if that didn't happen at all?" Somewhere in our minds, we tend to think that we can change the outcome if we wish hard enough, or so I've tended to notice.

Anyway, I wish I'd had the knowledge I have now, prior to starting the games. It would make everything so much easier. x.x

I would love to start from scratch on some of the games. This applies to more than just FF games as well.
There is something fantastic about playing the games for the first time. Especially once they started doing the CG Cut Scenes. It was always a treat to see what the next big cut scene would be.

It depends, again on which FF title your playing, I remember back when I had first completed FF7 my friends would debate the different things about the plot-holes and attempt to fill the openings in the story, some very interesting theories and conversations were had back then.

however if its a game where knowing it all kinda ruins a plot twist, I think it can take away from the experience (knowing when a party member will leave for instance so you know to de-equip etc)
