So in many RPGs, especially old school RPGs, you often come across between one or all of these types of towns: Desert town, snow town, technologically advanced town, mining town, thieves town, magic city that may or may not float in the air, ninja (Japan based) town, lost city, port town, casino town.

Which is your favorite to come across?

Mine is the snow town. I always liked walking around in snow areas in video games because it often looks different from the rest of the map. And it's fun to watch your characters walk around in little outfits and not freeze to death.

I chose other. Specifically I mean "pacifist utopia town" which always ends up getting invaded/destroyed by the game's antagonists :P

I'll go for the technologically advanced town. In more recent RPGs nowadays - there's always at least one that pops up. When they do pop up eventually, they're usually such great places to see in terms of scenary, the futuristic Blade Runner-esque buildings and other visual clues to suggest hi-tech.

I've seen examples of these towns in Final Fantasy VIII and Rogue Galaxy for example.

I'll go for the technologically advanced town, because, much as I love magic, after a while it can be refreshing to be introduced to a mechanical Utopia. The likes of thieves town, port towns and many of the rest actually put me in a foul mood, for some reason. I do like the snow town though.

:lew: This is so true. Even though they are cliched, I do love them all. Each game I can think of has one as it's been said and they all have their distinctive flavour.

I would have to say the tech town though. They usually are busy cities and tend to have more atmosphere due to the large no. of people there.

It all depends on the game though I suppose. :hmmm:

Indeed, I love them all too. Id have to say technologically (sp) advanced town. I love seeing new and odd gadgets going about working and something different and exciting.

NINJA TOWNS!!! I mean where else are you going to find half-naked women in a hotspring, i mean come on.... anyone?

I'm going to go with snow town ^_^ There's always a sense of inner warmth in these types of towns as people are all piled into the little houses by the fire. Despite the elements the people are always having a fun time xD

I voted for technolgy advanced. Those were the most interesting towns to me and I thought that in all the games that they appear in, they were done quite nicely. They usually had the best equips in the games that sold them and were more close to, or in some cases, more advanced than towns in real life, which I thought was innovative.

hmm between me its Snow i like them because its a change of scenery from the rest of the towns its like that in every game i play (making foot prints in the snow ftw ^^)

i also rly like Lost Citys there cool

Haha i see what you did thar

I like the lost cities too :) They always add some sort of extra depth to the story--either learning from NPCs what happened to make it lost, or just having to guess, is always interesting. There are a lot of port towns and mining towns, but I don't think they're as cliche as they are necessary, though--people seem to travel a lot by sea and use metallic weapons etc. in a lot of the FF worlds, so it makes sense to have those kinds of towns I think.

For me it's the snow towns, though exactly why I'm not sure. Even FFIX, which was a game I found so few positives with, I loved Esto Gaza even though there really was very little to do there.
