Dragons’ Dogma videos show a fight with an Ogre, the undead

Capcom has released two new videos for Dragon’s Dogma, its open-world RPG slated for release on PS3 and Xbox 360. The first one, called Phantom and Ogre shown at Captivate 2012, shows the integration between combat, graphics and cooperation with your Pawns. Watch below as the main character and Pawns faces off against a group of phantoms and a rampaging Ogre. The second video shows the group go up against the undead. There’s also two bits of artwork below. Game’s out May 22.

Comic-styled video tells the story of Dragon’s Dogma

Capcom has put out a new video for Dragon’s Dogma, which gives you the story behind it in detail. The video plays like a moving comic book, and is rather cool to be fair. It looks as though it’s the first in a series of videos, because at the end, it says “to be continued.” Watch for yourself below. Dragon’s Dogma will release on PS3 and Xbox 360 May 22 in the US and on May 25 in the UK.

Dragon’s Dogma encourages you to grab

The latest gameplay video for Dragon’s Dogma shows off the combat’s core conceit – the ability to climb all over your monstrous foes, seeking weakpoints and changing their behaviour.

Note that you can also grab smaller enemies and throw them; latch onto flying enemies to traverse the terrain; and use cloaking effects to damage enemies by clinging to them.

Dragon’s Dogma, an epic action RPG for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, is due in May.

Thanks, Evil Avatar.

Dragon’s Dogma demo releasing on April 24

Capcom has announced that a demo for upcoming RPG Dragon’s Dogma will be releasing next week.

The demo will be available for download via the Xbox Live Marketplace and the US PlayStation Store on April 24. The EU PS Store will receive it on April 25.

The demo will feature two of the game’s classes – the Fighter and the Strider. Each of them will be playable in separate encounters. The fighter encounter is a Prologue quest which takes place before the events of the main game, and the Strider quest is one set in the open plains surrounding the capital of Gransys. Each encounter features a boss fight at the end of the level.

The demo will allow you to create your own hero using the game’s character creation tool and it can be exported over to the full game when it releases this May for PS3, and Xbox 360.

well that's nice.I am really looking forward to this game. Not thrilled about the pawn system/players interchanging pawns but if it's not a requirement to do so then I guess I am ok with it.

Dragon’s Dogma gameplay video features an irritable cockatrice

Capcom has released a video for Dragon’s Dogma, showing a rather upset cockatrice. It’s up to you and your Pawns to subdue the magical, two-legged dragon with a rooster’s head before it turns everyone around it to stone. A demo for the game lands on PS3 and Xbox 360 starting April 24 and the game is out in May. Thanks, Machinima.

Dragon’s Dogma’s Itsuno: asynchronicity and the Pawn

The Dragon’s Dogma demo is almost upon us. What better time to check out the RPG’s revolutionary asynchronous multiplayer and character customisation?

20120423dragonsdogma.jpg

There’s been little buzz around Dragon’s Dogma since its surprise announce a year ago, but you can expect that to change rapidly. The Dragon’s Dogma demo is due in console network updates this week, which is as early as tomorrow in some territories. It includes two missions as well as the game’s character customisation suite, and players can export their Arisen and Pawn demo builds to the full game.

The game’s director, Hideaki Itsuno, is rightfully proud of how extensive this customisation is. Running me through the character creator, he showed off an astounding range of options. Forget hairstyles and facial features – in Dragon’s Dogma, you choose height, weight, shape, muscle, age, limb length, stance and posture, and many of these decision affect gameplay in meaningful ways, like equip loads and NPC reactions. The patented amount of variation on offer goes far beyond any other game I can think of, and yet Capcom has made it work with all the equipment and clothing in-game, as well as building cut-scenes which cater to both extremes of height and width.

For many players, this level of personalisation is unnecessary – they’ll just grab a preset and go – but Dragon’s Dogma gives you a very good reason to bother in the form of asynchronous multiplayer elements.

The player takes on the role of the Arisen, but is accompanied by a party of three AI companions called Pawns. One of these is created by the player, while the others are recruited ready-made from the NPC population roaming the game world, or by summoning from the Rift. Here’s where things get really interesting; if you’re online when you enter the Rift, you can browse and summon Pawns made by other characters – although they won’t become unavailable to their owners.

Every time your Pawn is chosen, you’ll be automatically rewarded with currency used to summon high-level Pawns for yourself, as well as a gift item and possibly even a whole new set of equipment. Pawns will come back from adventures with other people with knowledge of quests and enemies, gradually building up an encyclopaedia of information which makes it even more valuable to other players.

A popular Pawn will appear in the top rankings of search results, which means it will be summoned more and more often – and bring home the bacon by the barrel. Rare items needed for crafting, sweet new gear from high level players, massive piles of moolah – a popular Pawn is a cash cow. The game supports all sorts of clever ways of promoting your Pawn, from extensive in-game search options to help players find effective companions, to built-in Facebook and Twitter sharing which show your gamertag or PSN ID to the world along with a screenshot.

Putting the pieces together now? If your Pawn looks like a total god damned badass, you’re going to be rolling around in wealth. You’ll want to invest some time in that customisation suite.

Why stop there?

At a preview session in Sydney recently, Itsuno was frustrated that, prior to release, he can’t properly show off the game’s unique take on network features (especially the bit where other players can send your Pawn back in a bikini, or, less trollishly, a nice new set of armour).

It’s obvious Itsuno and his team are aware of the sexiness of asynchronous multiplayer, lately popularised by the messaging, ghost and reputation systems of Demon’s Souls. What’s less obvious is why, with such a perfect set up for Monster Hunter style co-operative multiplayer, the team didn’t just go all the way.

“I didn’t really like that. I wanted to play when I wanted to play without having to worry about anybody else. But I still wanted to keep those network functions and the internet – that idea of multiplayer – in the game. This kind of indirect multiplayer is what I chose to do in the end. To still have that multiplayer aspect in the game, while being able to freely play whenever I want.”

It’s a compelling argument in favour of the single-player RPG of the future – personal, but connected – and it demonstrates the experience-first attitude that shines through all aspects of Dragon’s Dogma’s unusual design.

Dragon’s Dogma arrives on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on May 22 in the US and May 25 in Europe. Keep an eye out for more material from our time with Itsuno-san.

I am personally excited for the game, it's demo will be out as of the 24th April. I loved Skyrim as I am a big fan of the elder scrolls series. I haven't managed to play demon souls or dark souls. But I also read that it has essence of Monster Hunter style combat which is also enticing for me as I love that franchise to.

I am hoping that the game demo shows the final product some justice, rather than give it a bad impression.

[h=1]Dragon’s Dogma video show various game scenes[/h] Sony Japan has released a new video showing various scenes from Dragon’s Dogma. There’s loads of fighting, walking dramatically through town, chatting with peasants, and choosing which pawns will fight alongside of you. A demo for the game is out today on PS3 in the US and globally through Xbox Live Gold. The PS3 demo will land in Europe during the regularly scheduled PSN update tomorrow, April 25.

The demo was on the XBLM yesterday and the game was great, a few rough edges but then what game doesn't these days. It's a mash up of skyrim, monster hunter and demons souls so if you like them your going to like this.

After playing the demo, I can say I'm pretty pumped for this game. I wasn't so sure before, but the controls feel natural very quickly and the combat is very fast. Not to mention, the pawns actually seem to have some degree of intelligence.

It plays (and feels) like some loose combination of Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Collosus, definitely worth trying to demo if nothing else!

I played the PS3 demo last night.I thought it was ok but not great.I still feel I need to know more of the story and the nonfighting aspects of the game. How the player character interacts with npc, what you can do in villages, towns and cities, are there game romances, friendships and so on and so forth.
So I will probably wait a few days after the game comes out and read first impressions and initial reviews about the game before I buy it.
CAPCOM has a bad reputation with their dlc as well, and how they have been managing those and I expect there will be dlc content with this game at some point. So that's a deterrent to getting it although I still expect I will be getting it at some point.:yaoi:

just played the demo, the game is pretty cool, looking forward to playing it.i just hope i get to bang my pawn after i spent so much time on it D;

Played the demo and I gotta say its absolutely stunning graphic wise. Made a female elf type char and what do you know like it read my mind it used bow and dagger. Its pretty cool she can use two types of weapons. At first I died many times trying to kill the griffin... It even got dark and I couldnt see shit even with latern.. It was interesting indeed.

Apparently there will be several in game romance options

if you are interested.I assume they will be similar to Dragon Age.

I was relieved to learn that if you aren't interested in renting pawns from other players online that you will be able to recruit pawns from among the npcs:

Which is good as I don't want to have to deal with other players.

May be a day one buy for me after all.:megusta2:

Dragon’s Dogma developer diary talks player choice

Here’s the second developer diary for Dragon’s Dogma, the open-world action RPG we’re getting more and more excited for. The team talks about how the plot and mechanics enable significant player choice through all aspects of the game, while also showing off some sweet battles. Dragon’s Dogma is due on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 at the end of the month.

I read that the game will take including like all side quests like 300 hours and the main quest is like 50 of it. I can't wait to spend a load of time into this game as it looks and plays fantastic. The release can't come soon enough......*waits outside GAME*

Ur-Dragon event mode announced for Dragon’s Dogma

Capcom has announced an encounter mode for Dragon’s Dogma in which players and their pawns can log onto PSN or XBL and compete collectively online in “an asynchronous encounter” against the dreaded Ur-Dragon.

urdragon.jpg

According to the firm, the effect of each party’s attacks will be combined to take the Ur-Dragon down, but it will take multiple encounters before the beast falls. If you are the one who deals the fatal blow, you will receive the maximum reward, but those who don’t can still obtain both common and rare items dropped as damage is inflicted on the dragon.

Players without an online connection can also take on the Ur-Dragon alone, but the rewards will be different to those received online.

All slayers of the Ur-Dragon will have “their names and play times recorded in a hall of fame for others to view and aim to beat.”

Check out the massive beast in the video and shots below.

The Ur-Dragon challenge will be made available when Dragon’s Dogma releases in North America on May 22 and across Europe on May 25.

Third Dragon’s Dogma developer diary focuses on the details

Capcom has released the third developer diary for Dragon’s Dogma, which focuses on the more detail oriented aspects of development such as the fully-voiced NPCs and the thousands of lines of dialog. The game is out later this month on PS3 and Xbox 360.
