So I made a fairly long post about my recent FFX re-play experience, but I've now done so in a dead forum and in a forum where I was told that nobody likes FFX (even though that was the name of the sub-forum I was in). Sooo, if anyone here actually still posts and actually likes FFX, I hope to hear about the way some other people have gotten the most out of their copy of FFX.
Here's my experience...

As for me, I've already put about 100 hours into this play through. I find FFX one of those games that if you can make it through the first 5 hours (which do kind of drag after your first time through), you will be completely hooked. I've only beat this game a couple times before, and I did so enjoying the strategy of the battles and the customizing system, but never did too much extra training with a total play time never exceeding 60 hours.

This time I took a bit of a different tact, decided to really see what I could get out of this game. It is a mixture of a rewarding and a hair-pulling experience. The secret aeons are awesome, my first time using Anima demonstrated to me how unstoppable he is. The quest to unlock the celestial weapons however is one that I can't see myself wanting to do again any time soon. I've recently been through the teeth grinding chocobo catcher race in which I called the trainer every dirty name I could summon. Subjected myself to the butterfly catcher where I was taunted with fractions of a second for at least an hour. Finally, pulled an all-nighter bouncing off lightning bolts until tears ran down my eyes and the screen blurred, refusing to go to bed until I had dodged 207 in a row.

Another thing that I had never bothered to dedicate any time to in previous play throughs was Blitzball, which I did not believe could be any fun. I have to admit, I have proven myself wrong. I now have all the celestials except for Wakka's and I'm actually kind of having a good time winning his sigil. It's easy to get into Blitzball, and although I still won't play it anymore than I have to, I've enjoyed it much more than the other mini games. I think for a lot of people, it's just realizing how all the stats staring at you when you first jump into blitzball are really quite simple to learn. If it were a real sport, I might just watch it.

Once I have my well-earned weapons, I intend to train, train, train. I expect at this point the final boss won't be a challenge (since he never really was all that hard to begin with anyway), but I do want to see how I'll stack up against the challenges that lie within the Omega Ruins. I think my strategy will be to fashion me some weapons that are strickly AP earning buffs, and then switch to my celestials when I'm ready for some serious fighting. Thoughts on this? I want to go out with a bang.

I think so. The first time I played through it, I didn't want to use any cheats or even the guides. As a result, I had to try figuring out where the Celestial weapons were by myself... and it wasn't easy. Seriously. Plus, since I play on an emulator, dodging lightning on the plains is a nightmare.

I'll probably replay it some time soon just to get those Celestial weapons. Anima as well.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to play it again. I only beat if for the first time a few days ago, so I'll probably play it in a month or so. I need to get those celestial weapons, too...
On a side note, I know my girlfriend has beat it more than 10 times. xD

10 is just one of those games you can play again and again and again. I've only played it twice, but I will again sometime soon.

Oh, totally. I've played X five or six times, and I'll probably play through it again in the near future. It's my favorite FF, mainly for the plot and the characters and the world-building, but the game itself is fun too.

I've only gathered and unlocked all the celestial weapons once, and that was on my second playthrough. I spent somewhere around 90 hours on that one. I found that having them made the game a little less fun for me, though, because you can just destroy everything. I prefer to be sweating during the final boss battle. Plus most of the sidequests to break the seals on them were just a pain. I remember spending so much time on blitzball for Wakka's stuff O_O. I turned the volume down and listened to music while I was doing it, so it was okay, but I wouldn't do it again.

The last time I played X was in a sort-of speed run through all the main Final Fantasies (minus XI) just before XIII came out. People tend to call X easy, but without the celestial weapons and/or a fair amount of grinding the run-up to the final boss is HARD. And Yunalesca and a couple of Seymour's forms are no walk in the park, either. The only FFs I had a harder time beating in that run were III and IV.

Once was enough for me. :dave:

X was definitely one of the FF games I just didn't care for, tbh. I tried playing through it a second time just to see if I'd like it any better the second time around. I got to the blitzball tournament and quit. I just didn't care for the characters or plot. I also hated blitzball with a seething passion. There were some aspects about X that I liked, such as the battle system and the limit break system (overdrives). Overall though, I just didn't enjoy it enough to ever play through it again.

Thanks for the great replies, I definitely found my new Final Fantasy forum :-).

I honestly think getting the celestial weapons is going to be mostly for the achievement of saying "I did it", WanderingAesthetic I haven't really tried using the the celestials in hardcore battle yet, but I'm sure you're right about them making the game less fun. On my first play through, my level was mediocre and I had very little secrets unlocked... which made the battles a real challenge. The way FFX is set up, if you use good strategy you can win with very little power at all, which is something I found very attractive about the game since I love strategy, (My idea of a good shooter is metal gear because it involves some strategy to beat it).

So far for me would I say it was worth it to get the celestials and all the aeons? Yea I recommend to those who haven't yet to try it once. Oh, and listening to your own music is a must for Blitzball... there's no way you can keep listening to the default track the whole time, you'd go insane. Monarch, congrats on doing the lightning on an emulator... it was absolutely horrible to do on a real PS2.

Don't get me wrong. I love that game. But I am not the type who usually replay games/re-watch movies frequently. It's probably a dislike of repetition. But I am quite sure after a few years, I will yearn to replay it. I did replay FFVIII after a few years though.

Yes, I inevitably will. I just played through the game for the first time last month, and I am already itching to play it again. It is easily one of the best games I have ever played, and my personal favorite Final Fantasy game.

It's a good one for sure, I'm not sure I can say it's my favorite though. As for replaying RPG's (something that requires a lot more dedication than a lot of other genres), I'd say I play through once every year or two for the games I liked enough to buy. A little off topic from FF, but Legend of Dragoon is probably my most frequently played RPG.

yes i do, ive played through it 14 times and i intend to keep playing it until the disc stops working, and when that happens i will most likely
go and by another copy

Pretty much this. If there is one thing about the JRPG genre, is that once I've more or less completed the game, it's going on the shelf to collect some dust. It takes a lot of effort to complete a JRPG moreso than any other genre, so by the time I got to the end of FFX, I really did feel that quite a lot of work went into those 80 hours on the Sphere Grid itself, the sidemissions and the main story itself. Would I want to do all that again soon? I may replay it if it were an action-adventure, but going through FFX once was enough until perhaps a few years later, and there's the unfortunate fact that I don't really see the big deal with this game. It's certainly not one of my favourites.

Okay yes, admittedly I did try to play through FFX again, but I didn't get too far. I reached Luca before the pile of unfinished games next to me caught my attention and I didn't really have that much time to dedicate to another playthrough of the game. I honestly don't and physically can't love it to bits enough to dedicate myself to going through multiple playthroughs. I have an odd love-hate relationship with this game that leans towards hate from time to time. Once I've finished something, I prefer to move on to something new.

I have replayed FFX over 5 times I am sure.

I am not sure what it is that makes me love it. Maybe it's the story line that draws me or maybe the characters and how they grow as the story moves forward. It's just a great game for me that keeps me coming back to replay. =).

Oh, I'm sure I will play it again. I'll probably wait a little, so that I might forget some of what happens, but I'm sure I'll still remember most of it.

Sure, some of the stuff in the game is time consuming, but in the end, it is totally worth it. :monster:

I played this game like 3-4 times including save files near the end of the game...My last save file has more than 200 hours put in it..Only one I had to kill is Penance,.anyways my ps2 broke down because of age..

I will only play this game ever again when its going to be remade for ps3 in hd obviously :D :ohoho:

I can not wait for that day to come ..if it will come..

I've replayed it at least 3 times. One of those, I had 150+ hours. It's one of the FF's I'd replay over and over. Still haven't 100% it, the lighting dodger is such a biatch

So I just finished this game with about 120 hours, and the majority of my team was destroying by the end. I took out Omega Weapon (US version) and Jecht before they even got an attack off. Wakka and Auron's physical attacks were averaging 30,000-50,000 damage per hit. 40,000 damage for Ultima doublecast. I didn't even bother summoning Anima because his overdrive would hit the cap of 99,999 damage.

My only problem is if they're going to make it not only possible, but relatively easy to reach such levels of power (putting in about 10 hours of training into Zanarkand and 10 hours into the Omega Ruins at the end of the game)... they really need to give you more challenges. At least the JAP/Intl version gave Omega 999,999 HP. But the US version really took the fun out of the game when you reach high levels. I need a new FF game or RPG to play now :-(. I liked FF7 because even at Level 70 I still had challenges.

I don't think ill replay FFx again.

I mean i liked it, but (to me anyway) the battle system was way fucked up, not smooth and kick-ass like X-2's battle system was.

It had a good story but, unlike the original FF's(I-VIII) it was hard for me to keep myself occupied with it like FFx (or VII, or V:ryan:).

I've replayed FFX countless times. It's been 7 and a half years since I've acquired it, I replay it several times so that I can catch on details that I might have missed and understand the game better. Although on my main saved status, I have nearly 405 hours of gameplay (no kidding!), a very boosted party with 1/4 of the Sphere Grid remodeled to raise stats by 4 points and the Mark of Conquest.

Yes, I'm obsessed with sidequests.
