Doctor Who

It did take too long to get going I think, and was an OK but not great episode. But I liked Rory's rather resigned reaction when he thought that he had died again!

Some people have pointed out you can tell the episode was originally planned for the first half of the series -
no mention at all of Melody and the Doctor rather pointedly saying that he, Rory and Amy were all back together 'in the flesh' at the end of the episode

I thought last night's episode was quite sweet, just focusing on the three main characters worked very well.
 
I've been planning to watch some of the episodes of this series-Doctor Who, but I have a lot of things in my hand right now. Wondering where I can buy some of the DVD's...

if that was the case, i don't think they would be credited as main cast. and john simm has said a few times that he'd love to come back as the master. i can't see moffat bringing donna back though.

i just watched the last episode, i'm quite surprised at how personal it was in terms of the doctor. it really revealed a lot of his character and his vulnerability that you don't often see. i also really like the idea of leaving amy and rory out for the next episode and focusing on the doctor's solo travels.
 
I also saw something on Tumblr that's a total mindfuck. We never saw at the end of series 5 that the Doctor left for a period of time, and that Amy and Rory got a new house. End of the God Complex, the Doctor leaves to be on his own for a bit, and Amy and Rory are settling into a new house, just like the beginning of the Impossible Astronaut when he hasn't been around them. If this makes any sense. :gasp: Basically left me wondering if we were being shown these in the right order, and explains why the Silence might be in the last episode this series. But that's just because I saw them in the trailer back in July.

And yeah, charliepanayi if it were flashbacks, they wouldn't be credited. Otherwise Billie Piper, Freema Agyeman, and Catherine Tate would've been credited in "Let's Kill Hitler" (not exactly a flashback, but they were shown).

‘Outnumbered’ star Claire Skinner and comedian Bill Bailey are among the names joining the Doctor for this year’s Christmas special.

Set during World War 2, the action sees Matt Smith’s Doctor meet a young widow and her two children as they are evacuated to Dorset, taking them on a typically festive adventure.

Also joining the cast are comedian Alexander Armstrong (‘The Armstrong and Miller Show’) and actress Arabella Weir (‘The Fast Show’).

Head Who writer Steven Moffat said: “The Doctor at Christmas - nothing is more fun to write. Maybe because it's so his kind of day - everything's bright and shiny, everybody's having a laugh, and nobody minds if you wear a really stupid hat.”

The plot sees Madge Arwell (Skinner) and her two children, Lily and Cyril, meet the Doctor at an old house in Dorset where the time traveler is mysteriously posing as a caretaker.

“They are about to enter a magical new world and learn that a Time Lord never forgets his debts,” reads a press release from the BBC.

Much like how last year’s special took influence from Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’, this year’s looks to C.S Lewis’ ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ for inspiration. A little hint of what to expect perhaps?

“Of all the Doctors, Matt Smith's is the one that was born for this time of year - so it's the best news possible that he's heading back down the chimney,” Moffat adds.

With the current series heading towards a surely epic conclusion it’s good to know we’re not far away from more Who on our screens.

Well we don't have the BBC America preview caption for that episode to hand, so maybe they were.
 
I saw the preview for myself on the tv -__- "Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill, Alex Kingston"
 
The Cybermen stuff seemed rather weak there, I was enjoying seeing Matt Smith and James Corden (who has been much better in this show in his two episodes than I feared he might be) bounce off one another and the main plot was getting in the way of that. One of the weaker episodes in this series, but I'm still enjoying the series overall.
 
this was another one that i didn't have high expectations for, but i liked the under current of the doctor trying to leave, but being unable to bring himself to do it. i agree that the cybermen stuff got in the way too much but it did need that something else there.
it was nice to see the throwbacks to the start of the series with the stetson and envelopes as well.

That crossed my mind too,
She couldn't be a future River as she used up all her regens bringing the Doctor back to life, and she dies in the library, a past River just wouldnt make sense


The only thing that made me think that really was the eye patch, but then, they all seemed to be wearing them
 
Watched the latest episode a bit a go (two days late) and I liked it. I enjoyed the Lodger so having Craig back was fun. The Cybermen were quite underwhelming, though. I was hoping for more action coming from them. Especially since there hasn't been a proper Cybermen story since Tennant.
 
I enjoyed it, too, and I have to agree about the Cybermen. They were hyped and then just ... nothing. Still a decent episode overall. But I suppose the finale should be quite the episode, what with River Song returning (for a final time? Not too sure about that xD) and seeing how it all pans out.
 
I think I'm just glad that the Cybermen weren't trying to take over the world / London / Cardiff. I mean, they ultimately had that end in sight, but the story wasn't about that. I actually quite liked that in the end. The episode was more about The Doctor's relationship with Corden, but also about how he cannot avoid bumping into and eventually having to save (or put in danger) his companions.

I also loved The Doctor's communication with the baby. That The Doctor claimed that the baby called himself Stormaggedon was a nice touch.

Nah, it won't be the final time. Technically her final appearance is Forests of the Dead, what with the whole weird time line thing going on. But I bet she probably will get arrested at the end of the finale :lew:

I also like the humor they give Matt Smith's Doctor. I cracked up when he was working at the toy store and explained why he had a name tag xD
 
So did anyone see that coming at the end? I didn't but I guess it should have beenobvious in retrospect. I quite liked how simple it was and how it was revealed, though I imagine some will find it a bit of a copout. Moffat really playing the long game here, mapping out the probable end of the Eleventh Doctor already.

As for the episode itself, not perfect by a long shot - it felt a bit too much like everything was just a prelude to the big reveal at the end - but loved the creepy skulls and the Silence (as usual).

And on a side note, even the Silence call Rory the one who keeps dying XD
