What do you think about Kira's actions?

I agree with what he was doing, kill the criminals and the world's crime rate will virtually disappear. Some of his actions like killing those who spoke against him and people who were trying to catch him I didn't think were right but overall, Kira was doing the right thing.

I understood his actions until he killed FBI agents and in ( the movie' version his own girlfriend ) now i see him as just as scum as the ones he killed.

2 wrongs never make a right and besides you either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain and that is what happened to Light

Death Note is an interesting series. I must have watched up to episode 27 the first two days I watched it but that was about a week ago. Haven't had the motivation to finish it. I can't say I support his killing of criminals or innocent people but I don't necessarily think it's wrong either. I have no problem with people being killed. I just don't believe that killing criminals will achieve the effect he's looking for, regardless of how the series turns out.

Well, the thing about Kira is that he wanted to become God, so the term criminal is very loosely defined in this case. Some people do deserve to die, but in some cases, whether or not someone deserves to die is very vague. I guess the question is if you want to leave such an important decision up to one person?

SPOILERS

Hmmm in the series i did sorta wanna see him win to be honest but after he made whatsherface burn herself alive i was against him, and in the end its pretty obvious that light is completely power mad and crazy.
As for his methods, like aztec said i dont agree with it or condem it. I feel neutral, killing criminals is not necessarily a bad thing but i dont think its a fair way to create peace, whatever that means.

Woo, I support Kira definitely. I'll be the girl at the end of the manga who (spoilers) says "Kira-sama" and prays ^^. I think it's right to kill most-wanted criminals, as this will bring down the crime rate around the world. I mean, if a country's government can't bring themselves to unleash the death sentence onto mass murderers, then at least someone else has to do it. A life for a life, fair trade.

I'm guessing Light never read Frankenstein, lolz :monster:

His intention may not have been a bad one per se, but there's a distinct line that separates humans from the divine. That's one of the reason's Sephiroth's goals were so evil - humans playing god is just blind arrogance, IMO. That was what Light is, a arrogant little boy playing god. Not only that, he mocks and plays the actual gods (Shinigami, Rem and Ryuk in particular) without second thought.
In the end, it was ironic and entirely appropriate that both a god (Ryuk) and a small child (Near) were the ones to bring Light down. Yet, in a very cryptic way, the Kira persona does achieve a sort of god status, while Light himself does not.

I voted for yes just 'cause the others voted no...even when they are right.

Anyway, killing ppl using pen and paper! can it be more awesome than this?!
Besides if you guys had the chance to have the death note you'll kill everyone around you and if you could you'll write "God" hoping he might get killed or die!!!!

I know I voted yes so I'll explain, what if your parents get killed infront of you and you couldn't do anythin? You'll hope that the criminal get a very painful death and here comes Kira's role.

I think this should go to the Death Note thread but anyway.
No,I don't support his actions.I know that our world is truly rotten but who is he who's gonna act like a God and judge people himself when he is controlled most of the times by his emotions and desires. That alone proves that Light is a Human and will always be.If you asked me about Lelouch then yes,his story is more believable and he wanted
to take revenge and rule Brittania, but at least he found a better excuse,to encourage the people of area Eleven rebel,so it's not that selfish.
Even though all he did was just for him and his sister.
Kira was just a black page in "history" while Zero succeded in something.

Well in a manner of speaking Kira and Light are two separate people. Kira is the person who the public see, while Light is the person who we (the viewers) see.

Kira is the divine power, he is a god, he decides who lives and who dies based on his righteous judgement. That is the way the world views Kira towards the end of the series, by the end of the series Kira has support from most of the world, he has that cult that supports him religiously and I think there is a scene somewhere in which the US president accepts Kira.

Light on the other hand is an egotistical teenager who believes he is better than everyone. He believes he has the right to decide who lives and who dies. While he claims that his goal is to rid the world of evil, his ultimate goal is to become a godlike figure.

In the public's eyes Kira is justice, they love Kira because they believe that he is out to save them all from evil. But we (the viewers) see that Light is only cleansing the world of evil so he can achieve a god like status. Cleansing the world of evil is only a means to reach his goal. This becomes apparent once Light kills Lind L. Taylor, before then, he had only been killing criminals. But this scene reveals his ego problem and shows that he is so adamant to become a god in the publics eye that he will kill anyone who opposes him even if they are not 'evil'.

The final thing which separates Light from Kira is that, while the public all believe that Kira is punishing the evil people with some sort of godlike power he possesses. We can see that Light is actually using the death note. While the death note is technically a godlike power in itself, it can be used by anyone who knows how to use it which makes it no different from any other weapon such as a gun or a knife.

If the public knew that Light was killing all those people with a weapon that he came across by pure chance, then the godlike image of Kira would disappear, they would see him as a mere mortal who has a dangerous weapon and would question what right he had to choose who should be killed. If they discovered how Light was killing everyone, the image of Kira would immediately switch from 'superior god' to their equal.

So do I agree with Kira? If by Kira you are referring to Light than I say no, I find his actions repulsive, he is manipulating the public for his own gain. If however, you are referring to Kira (as seen in the publics eyes) than I am left in a stump. If a real Kira ever arose than he would be seen as a god in the publics eyes and it is hard to disagree if all evidence appeared to lead towards some sort of divine intervention. But ultimately I would not support Kira, I am not a religious man, but I believe that if there is a god, he created us with the freedom to sin and I couldn't support a being which took away that freedom.

Sorry for the long post, I'm starting Uni soon so I wanted to get some practice in writing essays. :monster:

Well I read the above post and I agree in most of them.
I read somewhere in a battle Kira vs Zero and those who supported Kira said that the Shinigami would help Kira kill Zero. What I don't understand is how will Ryuk
help Light when he is the one kills him in the end.
So what I'm basically saying that some people have already accepted Kira as a God and would willinly support if one appeared claiming to be Kira.
I remember something I had read that people are trying to be Kira, and someone had left on a dead body a note saying "Watashi wa Kira desu" or something like that. How can be this right?I know that you'll say that he was stupid but can you see that in fact some fans receive a different message than the anime delivers?
While Kira in the anime is seen as killing all criminal, most fans only see the power the Death Note gives to the keeper.
(sorry if it was out of the topic but I'm stating another of my reasons for not supporting Kira's actions)

I voted Yes. :monster: well I don't fully support him but he was kinda right at the beginning
until he drifted into the idea of really becoming a god and killing criminals for everything and ended up hurting everyone around him and killing the innocents
, he should have punished the ones with crimes that can't be taken lightly not stealing something and getting caught for it. =\

I must add that what I hated about Kira wasn't the fact that he killed criminals but because he killed people,I bet many of those criminals had changed their mind and wanted to start a new life.Of course I believe that there are some people who don't deserve to live but who am I to judge them.I'm just saying that he only looked to one direction and didn't consider the fact of giving a second chance to any of them. Not like we wouldn't have done the same if we had a Death Note.

Another thing.I actually think Light was one of the most righteous ones to "use" the Death Note(it's confusing to understand),while others the moment they had held it they would start killing of those who stood in their way,but at first Light didn't do it for himself entirly. So that's the difference between him and the rest of the people.

I know what you mean. The third Kira
higuchi
only judged the criminals because Rem had told him to. All he really wanted was to help himself by killing those that would help his company. The rest of them only killed criminals because they looked up to Light or Kira and wanted to help him.

Like I said before, I don't condone the killings of those besides criminals but his idea and what he was trying to do was right.

==Spoilers==

In theory, the idea of ridding the world of evil sounds nice. But when put into practice it just doesn't work.

As I said before, Lights primary ambition was to become a god, however lets say that his ambition actually was to rid the world of evil for the examples sake.

His logic is that committing murder is evil. Yet he commits murder to rid the world of evil, so by that logic Light is evil. So that makes Light a hypocrite.

Now lets take a look at Misa. She is only killing evil people so she can gain the affection of Light, this is made obvious when she starts killing the people at Sakura TV. So she obviously is not trying to cleanse the world of evil as she would kill anyone if Light told her to.

Higuchi is obviously only killing people for his own self gain. I don't think I need to explain why.

Now we come to the final Kira; Mikami, he had the right motivation. As in he actually was killing people to rid the world of evil. Unlike Light, he wasn't driven by his own selfish ambitions.

But this leads me to my final point, you can't set out to cleanse the world of evil without possessing at least some level of Self-Righteousness. It is impossible because there are no universal laws which state what is right and what is wrong. While Mikami genuinely had good intentions, his view of evil included lazy people and reformed criminals. Light on the other hand didn't see lazy people and reformed criminals as evil. This shows that the view of what evil is differs from person to person.

Anyone who tries to rid the world of evil is only crafting the world as they see fit. They are essentially putting themselves on a pedestal and saying that they believe they are better than everyone else, that for some reason or another they deserve to decide what's right and wrong.

TL;DR Anyone who tries to rid the world of evil, is a Self-Righteous prick.

Nah, I don't support it. It just doesn't work. One person cannot judge whether or not someone should live. Light's initial motive was simply to rid the world of evil, but, due to the power he held, he quickly became consumed by the idea of becoming a god, and killed people very loosly, as though it were nothing. As the story progressed, his innocence diminished, which is further indicated by the narrowing of his eyes as the story unfolds. Giving yourself the right to judge others only makes you develop a superiority complex; it's ineveitable. And he didn't even realise what it had done to him,
except perhaps at the end of the anime as he died
. He is the ultimate representative of human nature, that absolute power corrupts absolutely. He was a good person, as shown during the episodes following
his relinquishement of the death note
, but the death note ruined him. There is already a government, leave it to them and don't even try to do it yourself.

Regarding the righteousness of the death penalty in general, I am indifferent to, so I won't comment on that.

I've always been a supporter of Kira. If I was Kira, I would definitely kill those who get in my way, because if they are in the way, you couldn't cleanse the world of evil. I, myself, wouldn't try to become a god. I had no problem with Kira [light] trying to become a god, if he was real, I would even bow to him.

Kira and Zero are my heros =]

Then it would be right if he were to sacrifice you for his greater goals.

How can he cleanse the world?Even if he kills all the criminals every day they will still appear some, plus he can't live for over 100 years(meaning he isn't a god). Not to mention that he himself is also a criminal.

They say that"give someone power to see what character he really is",so Kira is an example,he(light) appears like a nice guy at the beginning but once he gains power he completely changes to that of a serial killer.

I think everyone supported Kira for the first few episodes, but he took it too far when he killed people that weren't criminals
(like L ;-;)
and he really became a criminal himself so I vote NO!

"When there's good people there's always bad" right? So he shouldn't kill off all the bad..

I don't agree with his actions. He probably thinks it's right to kill bad people but no one has the right to take someone's life away. Even though he's a criminal, murderer or anything. When you kill the criminals they can't realize how horrible things they have done.
