Do you love Zack or do you hate him? Express your feelings about one of the greatest FF heroes here!

So, i was having a argument with my friend Zerovash about Zack. He thinks that Zack is gay (yes, you heard it right) and when i asked him why, he replied with that Zack dies easily in the game and blows of the chance to make out with Aerith. At first i thought that he was kidding but he never gave up on his opinion. He then again said a very shocking that 'most' final fantasy fans also thinks the same. So guys...tell me what do you think. Don't you think that these are way too harsh generalizations without enough facts?

p.s: feel free to thrash zerovash and curse whatever you want. he is a nice guy so he won't mind lol

Well.. Everybody is entitled to their opinions but those are some petty reasons to dislike zack..Besides he had the whole shinra army after him helicopters and all so he didnt die that easily. I have no reason to dislike Zack in fact why would someone even not like him in the first place?

I used to actually like Zack a lot before SE altered his personality and made him just some terribly constructed-retconed rip off of Cloud (by stripping Cloud of everything that was once originally REALLY Cloud's to begin with). Now, I think Zack's not any different than Tidus, tbh. He's happy go-lucky and that annoys the hell outta me. It's like, I've already seen that sort of character and he just does NOT outdo Tidus. Also, he's a very bland character. I just couldn't connect with him (at least in Crisis Core, I like him in AC and VII).

Oh, and the way he treated Aerith really really annoyed me, too. I cringed when I saw him telling Aerith how she should dress and crap as if she's his property or something --it's just really annoying. He shoulda liked her the way she was, not after she dressed and looked the way he wanted. And I don't care what excuse people come up with, he could have called Aerith or sent her a letter to at least let her know she's not being forgotten. That was just unacceptable--the friggin' jerk. <_<

Another thing that annoys me about him is how he's sooooo self centered and arrogant. >_> I mean, his "my face comment" was just... ugh!

So yeah, I dislike bland useless characters that have no real impact with who they are... and that is how I see Zack--bland and useless.

In FFVII Zack is made out to be an arrogant womaniser who basically just up and left Aerith, hell even on their way back to Midgar Zack referred to her like she was just a place to stay at, even going so far as to complain about Elmyra. Yes, he did help Cloud escape and protected Cloud before he died, but he was hardly the noble, golden-hearted martyr he became in Crisis Core. I always assumed Zack was the douchebag version of Cloud that he adopted after he came out of his stupor on the way to Midgar. Then they suddenly turned him into this super nice guy in Crisis Core and now suddenly he's everyone's favourite pretty boy. So no, I don't like Zack, I found his CC character generic, his FFVII character simply a background model and they made his relationship with Aerith was a little too intense in CC for her to regard it with such casualness in FFVII. However I do believe that their relationship did have a lasting effect on her though, whether it was just a fling or something deeper.

this pretty much summed up everything i wanted to say. Especially about the part where he just regarded Aerith as if she was just a place to stay (as if she wasn't important at all) and like you said, then SE went and completely changed who he was and tried to white night him and the way he treated Aerith.

Generic is definitely a word I'd use to describe Zack, that's for sure. :/

I personally like zack but as a supporting character. He is too one dimensional character

Zack is okay of a character and to be honest Square Enix tried way too hard to try and make him a loveable character; you can feel the force within Crisis Core on Zack's character to try and make him a loveable character. He's okay. He's not terrible in my eyes and he's not wonderful either.
He's just a cheerful main lead that acts really childish and kid like at first and then gets deeper and more mature as time goes on.

Zack really does feel done before; he feels sort of outdated. Maybe if he was made before Zidane and Tidus I would of liked him more but he wasn't and just doesn't feel too unique from the usual cheerful Final Fantasy hero.

He's a nice guy and he does save Cloud and he gets a record for being a great and wonderful Final Fantasy hero because of it. But to be truthful there's better Final Fantasy herores out there.
The FF 2 chaarcters that gave up their lifes so could Firion could stop Paramecia, Desch in FF3, The FF4 characters who risked their lifes, FF7 Aeris, FF9 Zidane who tried to help everybody.
FF8 Laguna Loire who helped everybody and the animals. There's more heroes out there that have risked their lifes than just Zack.

Zack is very overated. Though do I hate him ? No. Though does he make my Top 20 Final Fantasy characters list ? No. Not even close.

Anyways, I actually do like Zack. It may have partly been because of his voice actor though (GIPPAL ). I do agree he was almost too much like Tidus, but I love Tidus to the core so I didn't really mind it I also loved his relationship with Cloud; they were such good friends and it was adorable. Him as a character...I don't really remember too much tbh So while he's not very memorable, I still like Zack. Cloud much more, but I still like Zack.

Just noticed this now. Diarmuid you should really tell your friend off not for hating Zack but for using the term ''gay '' as a negative word. It's really offensive and insulting and gay shouldn't be used as something that's negative or a insult.
Because gay people are awesome and they don't derseve to be dissed.
