Apologies to the mods if there's already a thread on this, I had a quick look around, so if there is just merge it or something.

I've just finished killing Ozma in IX, and I think apart from getting all the cards, I've done everything else in the game. My characters range from 79-63. Now I don't think I can be assed to level them all up to 99. I have think I have only done it in VIII and that's just because it was easy to level up in that game!

Considering this is my 2nd/3rd play through I don't know what to do, maybe when I have a spare half a day I could do it!

So do you have to level them up to 99 and the finish the game to put it to rest?

Nah, levelling to 99 gets sooo boring and tedious. Plus it just makes things 10xto easy, even on VIII I wouldnt max out all my characters even though its painfully easy. chances are, il have one character, thats 99, but i dont go out of my way to hit it. If it happens during training fine, other than that, if I have no reason to, I wont bother. Especially if I have no optional bosses to beat.. whats the point really?

Yes yes I do

I tend to level to 99 in every Final Fantasy game. Leavin them on some odd level isn't enough and makes me feel like I half ass'ed it. I like seeing what the characters full potintial is. I think that I have had a problem with leveling though cause its took a lot of time in my life always finding the highest EXP monster and fighting it hundreds of times. but I have to do it for I am a perfectionist.

I was like that when I did VIII. I got eveyone up to level 99. but then when I replied VII I think Cloud was, but that was it.

I did feel as though it wasn't finished so I still have the save game and I think told myself I'd go back to it and finish it off! Same for IX and XII I think. Although I still haven't killed Yaizmat so maybe I do need to get to 99 for that.

I think it might make it too easy, but with Ozma and Omega it was essential I think, maybe I'm just not that good a player! ^_^

I defiantely wasn't 99 for Ozma, my guys were 70's/80's you just need the right set up I think. As for Yiazmat, Ive not done him eitrher, my characters are (well my main 3) all in their 80's and Im still ahving a tough time in some areas, so I think its essential to leve yourself up in some games, I just don't think hitting 99 is necessary, Ive never had to have all characters maxed out so far anyway. I'm far far too lazy

I never really took the time to level up my characters, but then again i never really enjoyed FFXII, and i didn't want to spend longer than i had to on it, so i challenged the final bosses and beat the game, put it down and i haven't really played it since i finished the game.

It all depends on which Final Fantasy I’m playing. If it’s FFVIII then I’ll level all of my characters out before hitting disc 4, because it’s so easy. Levelling up in FFVII though takes considerably longer and I’ve only ever reached level 80. Sigh. FFIX and X are just as hard as well.

the first time i play through a game, i just lvl up as much as its needed to beat the bosses......, when i go on a second run, i open up guides to see how to get everything 100%, that includes leveling to maximum level.
right now going through ffix like 4th time..., doing max stats challenge....timer is yellow, cant wait to meet ozma again xD

My closest games of leveling characters to 99 was FFVII and FFXII. I had a few characters hit 90-91, but never any higher. I mean I could go back and push a few to the max, but I just don't got that kinda time to sit there and do that patiently.

It would be cool, but like I said, it would take a heckuva long time to do. I think also my characters in FFX are fairly decent when it comes to statistical power-houses, but they didn't have the numerical level track, so it was difficult to see how well it ranks up there with my other games.

Add FFVIII and its the same for me. I'm not really a fan of leveling to lvl 99 to beat any particular boss or to complete the story, but it is something I enjoy doing post-game to pass time.

In Final Fantasy VII, I had beaten Ruby far before hitting level 99. For Emerald though, I did max out my main characters. I think right now everyone except Cait Sith is level 99 because of my post Emerald beatdown runaround.

In Final Fantasy VIII, I didn't know the more you leveled, the harder the bosses got... so when I couldn't beat anyone in Ulimacea's castle, I leveled like a madman. I finally got all my characters to level 99 and beating the game was an utter pain in the cunt.

In Final Fantasy XII, you level so damn easily that it was pretty hard for me not to max out all my characters (except Penelo, the whore... who is still level 12) by the time I was ready to face off against Omega.

I never attempt to hit lvl 99 though... sometimes it just happens because of boredom, idiocy, or the natural leveling curve of the game.

Well only game i ever maxed out my characters to Lvl.99 was FFVII.
Cause..you know it's my favorite game of whole time and all...:P

I never tried it out on the other FF's i completed (besides FFX wich..doesn't have the leveling system :wacky: ) wich are usually around Lvl60.
Exept for FFXII being at 47 max!

Yup, i beat the game on lvl.46! ^_^
Am I cool or what :P

I wasn't level 99 for Ozma either, but I think i just got lucky! I had eiko and freya dead and steiner got his last Shock in to kill him. So by having 99 it might make it less luck orientated maybe?

But I suppose leveling is a means to an end. You level up enough to beat the boss, or the secret super hard boss so it makes sense to only to as much as is necessary!

I think I'll leave it as it is and move on!

I generally am happy with characters at around the level 80 mark. I DO like getting the best equipment possible though.

I think FF III is the one in which I am at the lowest level and at the end. My characters are just level 56/57, but I'll get them to at least 60.

I never bother levelling up to 99, mostly due to the fact that I'm far too lazy. The only time I ever did was when I was playing FFVIII because it took a lot less time than the other games and at the time I actually thought I would benefit from it. So yeah, levelling up to 99 isn't that big a deal for me.

I would have to agree with alot of people in here and say that if you do level up to 99 (or 100 depending on the game) it does make the game remarkably easier. Tbh I think the only one that I did it for was FFVIII, like most people said it was really easy to do. All the other FF's that I played I was probaly around 70-80 when I beat them.;))

I suppose if youre stuck for something to do you could level up all your characters to 99 although it wont benefit you in any way really. I always find this to be far too tedius and boring and ive never committed myself to actually trying this. I prefer to bash on with the story and do the sidequests..

I do not level up to 99, it takes away any challenges from bosses (other than hidden ones which I typically do not go for) and it was just so tedious to do so. There was no
incentive
for me to do so.

No, I find it the most boring thing in existence moving from monster to monster to level up, which in my opinion is unnecessary to level up to 99 and is just something you want to do...and I don't so I'm happy to stay at mid-80s to low-90s :)

I found it easy enough to finish the games at ~60s for levels with a few bonus materia / items / junctions / abilities (select as apropriate) however some of the tougher side quests require much higher levels

First of all, couldn't you level up to 100 in VIII? I seem to remember that being particularly troublesome when you stumble into a random encounter with Tomaras an level 5 death, and forgot to junction death to your ST-DEF.

In any case, VIII was the only game in which I attained max level with all of my active characters -- in all others I have finished with characters between the high 50s and low 70s. I figure if you can do all of the substantive "optional" quests in a game without attaining max level then there is no point grinding just for the sake of the number.
