Multiple Platforms Devil May Cry

I wonder if the DMC3 one will be the Special Edition with Vergil, Damon would approve :ryan:

Also DM, I feel your pain on SOS mode, i'm on DMD mode for DMC3 and 4, NOT FUN

*sigh* I shouldn't be getting involved in this thread. I love DMC but for the last 2 years or so it's been making me very very sad.

But a 10th anniversary would be kinda nice. I realize that having played DMC for ten years makes me feel like an old bitch. But still...it's a great series. DMC1 and 3 never disappointed me. 2 let me down a bit I forgave it. It was kicked out the door quickly for profit--Crapcom's usual methods. They're always doing dumb things like that, since, as quoted by Yahtzee, "Capcom aren't bad people, they're just idiots."

4 was iffy. It was clearly built around the newboi, Capcom's early signal that they were perfectly happy to throw away one of the two reasons DMC was so great, the main character. But let's be honest here, the big problem is that Capcom can't write itself out of a wet paper bag when it comes to continuity and consistency.

You know that the company needs to desperately hire a writer to help them pull the canon together when fans say something like "It's pathetic, but I've seen fanfiction that treated DMC better than the very company that made it." I've had people tell that to me and I freak out every time I think about it. It just feels wrong.

And now with You-Know-What...well, I'd say the series is just dead in the water unless some miracle happens--which it won't. The sad part is, Kamiya and his developer company said they're willing and ready to develop DMC, provided that Capcom manages to turn off the 'BLITHERING STUPID' switch and let them do it. But this being Capcom, I doubt they can even find that fucking switch. And on another note, I hope Ninja Theory crashes and burns. I've tolerated enough shitty games from them.

New screens, art, and details appear for Devil May Cry

Some screenshots and a couple bits of artwork for Ninja Theory’s Devil May Cry have been released by Capcom, and the firm has also dropped a few details regarding Dante’s past.

dmc-feb.jpg

According to a post on Capcom Unity, in the game, Dante is a young man who “has no respect for authority or indeed society in general,” which stems from knowing he is not human, yet nothing like the demons which have “tormented him throughout his life.”

He feels every bit the outcast, and having grown up in various “institutions, orphanages, youth correction facilities and foster homes” operated by demons where his deep hatred of demons and authority was bred, he decides to side with the “little guy” and other victims of an unfair society.

In the game, Dante’s Rebellion sword is given to him by his father Sparda so he can better protect himself against the demons which hunt him. It’s still unknown how he came to be in possession of his pistols Ebony and Ivory – or where they came from – but each, like his sword, were crafted a long time ago and have “sent innumerable demons to their doom.”

It all sounds very cool, and you can read the entire blog post through the link and check out the screens and artwork below.

The reboot of the series is slated for release on PS3 and Xbox 360 sometime this year.

Devil May Cry HD Collection may be out now at your local brick-and-mortar

The Devil May Cry HD Collection has an official launch date of April 3, but brick-and-mortar stores such as GameStop are selling it right now -- seriously, call up your local games store and ask if they have it in stock.

Told you so.

Physical retailers are able to sell Devil May Cry HD before the launch date because the title's street date has been removed, a GameStop representative told Joystiq. Perhaps this is Capcom's way of getting you out of the house, or maybe it's trying to bring down that newfangled digital-shopping model. Whatever the reason, just think of this as Easter come early and enjoy slaughtering all your demons a week in advance.

DmC trailer: Dante cast as “terrorist” and “sexual deviant’

Dante’s a terrorist with a permanent erection, according to the fat man on TV. In Ninja Theory’s vision of Devil May Cry, everyone’s out to get the youngster with an aversion to clothes.

The younger Dante seen in DmC is a cheeky lad who doesn’t wear a lot to bed. You can sort of see him growing up into the silver haired smoothie we know from earlier games when the hormones stop playing merry hell with him, especially after the life-changing experience of being a wanted terrorist.

DmC is expected on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but has not been dated.

Thanks, James.

Update

Dante takes on big, ugly enemies in latest Devil May Cry shots

Devil May Cry screenshots and a couple bits of concept art are posted below. The lot came out of Capcom’s Captivate 2012. A video for DMC leaked earlier, as is posted here. No official release date just yet, but some retailers have put an August 2012 placeholder up.

DmC combat animations are all hand-built

Ninja Theory is using motion capture for cutscenes, but every frame of Dante’s arse kicking has been lovingly rendered the old fashioned way for DmC: Devil May Cry.

Studio head Tameem Antoniades mentioned the manual animation in a Capcom blogcast, noting that motion capture wouldn’t bring quite as much character to the combat.

Antoniades also reiterated that Capcom is collaborating closely on the game’s action, even down to frame-by-frame advice.

DmC will feature the same combo ranking system of its precursors, but explained more clearly to the player, so casual button mashers have a better chance of working up to serious scores with advanced moves like jump-cancelling and parrying.

Dante’s angel and demon forms will be changeable in real time, allowing players to string together combos from eahc moveset, and each form will have unique weapons.

DmC: Devil May Cry is expected on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 but has not been dated.

Thanks, Siliconera.
