I own a copy of Final Fantasy IX for the PS1, but I've never actually played it and it's in 'blegh' condition. I'm just having trouble making this ridiculous decision :S

I've got some money on my PSN account and I'm thinking about purchasing the game there and playing it on my PSP or maybe my PS3... because I'm not even sure if the discs work on my copy. :S They kind of looked like a cat kept these discs in its bed or something.

I also kind of like playing games on the go sometimes, like it'd be fun if I was in a bus ride or something and I wanted to grind in FFIX I could just pull out my PSP or something... Is FFIX a good type of game to do that kind of stuff on? Or is it better to just sit back, have a big surround sound system and play it on my 48" Plasma screen and admire the 1x1cm pixels on the screen? :P

I played FFIX for the first time on the PSP and it great... i think it better on the go.. great because if u need to stop just turn the psp on sleep... swapping discs is sooo easy as well... only things i would say is 1.. adjust the screen size when u play it to zoom... and wear headphones when playing.. then you can hear the beauty of the soundtrack

Is Zoom the option that stretches the game across the entire PSP screen, because I wouldn't select that option, that would just make everything fatter than its supposed to be :S That always bothers me.

But would it be better to experience the game on a larger display and have my full attention towards it at all times? Or is it just as good to listen through earphones and experience it in short bursts of play?

PS1 discs tend to be prone to getting scratched easily and getting stuck during the FMVs, so considering the price for the PSN version, I'd say it's worth it, especially since it's easier to take around the place with you on a PSP. I play the PSP version without the screen stretch option on, and it looks fine with or without it to be honest, I personally think everything just looks a bit more crisp when it isn't stretched out.

Concerning your question about grinding and stuff, the answer is sort of. Level grinding isn't as important as in the other games, everything is possible on very low levels, but grinding AP can be very useful to an extent, since what passive abilities you're using is what a lot of the later bosses come down to rather than what level you are. For other kind of stuff you could do on the go, FFIX has a load of mini games at various parts, and there is also treasure hunting for completionists, so yeah, I'd say it's as decent as any other FF game to play on the go.

My decision isn't quite made yet, as I'd like to wait for some more input and opinions from others, but I should probably try to finish my Persona 3 Portable first as that game is extremely long and I've spent too much time not playing it, rather than playing it :S I'd hate to have two RPGs going on the same system...

If anyone else has anything to add, please discuss.

well.... what the screen setting you have it on :wacky: just wondering

And on leveling up.... na i finished final fantasy 9 and i was at lv50.... sooo u don't really need to griend... you just need to steal steal steal... you need to do it on every boss.... and it takes a long time trust me :hmph: takes me half an hour sometimes just to steal the items off a boss :mokken:

Well it's not on my PSP now, of course. But if I were to play it, I'd set the screen mode to "Original", which is what I think it would be called. It's the smallest one, and it makes it so the game is displayed at its original resolution, even though there would be some black space on the sides, and some on the top and bottom.

i tried that and it was a midget :sad3: i couldn't see the text in anyway :wacky:

also i'm pissed off... i saved the game just now... memory card went funny... and now i'm trying to fix corrpted data :sad3: thanks psp

Yeah, it doesn't help that the PSP is kind of unstable. My battery always pops out of place and shuts the system off randomly :\ That's another small reason why I don't like to play games on it, and may stick to playing it on the PS3. But I'm still open for feedback! :neomon:

haha loool i lost ALL of my data.. :/ i'm gonna have to restart it great :hmph:

on topic if you buy it on the ps3 u know u can use it on the psp as well :wacky: same file for both consoles.... soooo just buy it on the psn and then download it for ur PS3 and PSP

That's what I was going to do. You have also scared me into thinking my PSP will eat my data :S

The game was originally intended to be a console game, so I would play it for the first time on the PS3. The game really does feel like sort of a spin-off, handheld sort of game so I would definitely try it out on the PSP eventually.

haha u should be fine.... i'm an good with technology guy and i done things to my psp XD that was the reason i lost my data loool not cuz sony fails ;)

I'd say it depends on what type of TV you have...

If you've got an old SD TV then test your ps1 discs and play it normally, if you've got an HD TV then it'll look ugly because it's displayed in the wrong format on PS1 and PS3 so get it off the PSN and play it on your PSP instead!

Yeah, I have an HDTV and PS1 games (even PS2 games) look horrendous. I'm STILL thinking about this, believe it or not. xD I do have a tiny little SD TV in my room that I might play it on, instead. Unfortunately the sound won't be very loud and will have to be played in mono, though. >.<

I played Final Fantasy VII on my PSP (second time I played it). You're able to customize the screen settings, because original makes it a bit smaller. I'd say go for it, as I don't see your discs being able to run past some of the FMVs in that condition. I know mine are mint condition and still have trouble on some of them. You can bring it on the go or like as above, you can play it on a tv if you have the right cords. On top of that if you have a PS3 you can always play it on that, and the PSP/PS3 ports honestly look much better than the originals. That or my PS2 just makes them look a bit more blocky and too sharp. FFIX is a great game and I totally recommend it :D

I replayed FFIX on my HDTV and I though it looked fine tbh. If it were me i would play it on my TV rather than a handheld but that's because I really do not like handheld consoles lmfao. If you want to play on a PSP you should go for it, a lot of people enjoy it.

I've played it on my PSP and on a small tv via the PS2. I enjoyed both equally! And don't worry about data loss! Just back up your game saves on your computer frequently! :)

I think its a good buy. Those original games are hard to come by in english, and you can choose to play it on ps3 or psp. PSX games on PSP is great because obviously you can play it anywhere. Though It is annoying about only using the directional buttons (for VIII at least, havnt tried IX yet) and not having R2 and L2 buttons. Other then that, no worries.

Also changing discs is easy and hard resetting is also easy.

Easy to back up data as well on your PC.

I would recommend it :)

I've been thinking about getting FFIX for sometime now on the PSN. I had the original PS1 discs a long time ago and I played a little but I never actually finished the game. So I think I should go back and give it another wirl. And of course I'll be getting FFVIII to beat for the 3rd time and I just completed FFVII for the....1000000th time:awesome:
