"A Pakistani couple accused of killing their 15-year-old daughter by pouring acid on her carried out the attack because she sullied the family's honour by looking at a boy, the couple said in an interview broadcast by the BBC.
The girl's death underlines the problem of so-called "honour killings" in Pakistan where women are often killed for marrying or having relationships not approved by their families or because they are perceived to have somehow dishonoured their family.
The girl's parents, Mohammad Zafar and his wife Zaheen, recounted the October 29 incident from jail. The father said the girl had turned to look at a boy who drove by on a motorcycle, and he told her it was wrong.
"She said 'I didn't do it on purpose. I won't look again.' By then I had already thrown the acid. It was her destiny to die this way," the girl's mother told the British broadcaster.
Television footage of the couple showed them standing behind bars in separate, but adjoining jail cells.
The father said the family had already come under public censure because of their older daughter's behaviour, but he did not detail what exactly he meant.
Pakistani officials initially said the attack occurred because the girl supposedly had an affair with a boy...."

Dear me, I don't even know what to say :sad2: I just heard this on the news and it made me so sad I thought I had to share it. I have no clue what would bring parents to kill their own child over something so silly. I know life is quite a bit different over there in the middle east...but hopefully the love and bond between a parent and child would be the same? What a world we live in :(
 
So ridiculous. I read a story on BBC recently about an Indian family who killed their daughter and the guy she wanted to marry because they were of different castes. All involved received the death penalty. In some cultures, people still adhere ton these old and outdated customs. It's absolutely appalling. I can't imagine killing your own child because she looked at a passing boy or because she didn't want to marry someone that you wanted her to marry.
 
Well, that's life. You look at a boy, you should get killed brutally by the two people who should protect you.

That's such a horrible incident, let alone the 900 plus.

It isn't backwards. It's actually much worse than that. Barbaric humans wouldn't even act like this.

But, least we not forget this is a "pure" society. It is purer than the west.

This "sharia law" is just... ugh.
 
Well, I'm not shocked or surprised by this. I've heard of hundreds of these sorts of stories before so by now it's just second nature to accept that this sort of vicious crap happens over there. It's sad that the girl's own parents did it to her... may she rest in piece. :/

Noted. My comment was based on guess, since the majority of Pakistan is Muslim, and I couldn't seem to find any reference to religion. Obviously, I jumped the gun.

Yeah, from what I've read, it actually happens in several different religions. Either way, it's disgusting for people to do this to their own children.

but- then again- do these people know anything else ? I mean, doesn't our enviroment affect us? Like you said, it's a cultural "thing" so the family obviously had been influenced.

That's far from condoning it though.

Also, I would like to know the situation of the couples older daughter. Was she murdered herself?
 
Perhaps those cultures should just go and kill off ALL their women for these ridiculous reasons and subsequently die out... As a woman, reading this article makes me even more intensely grateful that I was born into Western society. I'd take skinny-pressure, processed food and drone jobs over being doused with acid any day.
 
I know it's wrong but...this makes me wish so badly that someone would pour acid over those wretched monsters. I can't call them parents - they're not even human beings, they're not even animals, they're just filth. God, this makes me so angry!
 
Pretty disgusting, and then Muslims wonder why people judge them and their crazy religion...
