I came across this on both Siliconera and Andriasang and decided to throw this in here instead as it technically isn't really news, but I suppose it's interesting to look at anyway. It's basically Lightning's house (and Serah's if you want to be technical about it), an area of the game that was supposed to have been included in the final product but did not survive the chopping block for reasons to do with content space.

Square Enix hasn't been exactly tight lipped about some of the cuts that were made to Final Fantasy XIII. In post release interviews, art director Isamu Kamikokuryou revealed that the design team had created a full area surrounding the home of main character Lightning. This apparently resembled a park.

Recently, artwork for Lightning's house and its surroundings has surfaced in a publication (I'm not sure of which publication, unfortunately). The art shows the inside and outside of the house.

Lightning had lakefront property, with one side of her elevated home anchored in the water. The house looks like a couple of domes attached together, with a glass covered stairway leading up to the entrance area in between the domes.

An inside shot of Lightning's living room and kitchen area show a large dining table, a monitor on the wall, and even a potted plant. It all looks very futuristic, as one might expect from the game.

There's also a shot of Lightning's bedroom. Her sheets are blue, just in case you were for some reason wondering.

Development on this area of the game world apparently progressed pretty far. Lightning's living room, bedroom and entrance all had artwork readied. The park and areas surrounding the house even had polygon model and texture data made. You could even walk around. However, due to space constraints, they the staff had to remove the entire island that contained the house.

I wasn't too sure what to do with this, but I suppose you can discuss about either the house or the cut content of the game in general. I probably wouldn't have minded having this house myself as the game really did need more areas that are town-like though if SE were to ever make any of their cut content DLC (I'm surprised they haven't actually), I don't think I'd bother getting it.

I like how the artist looked at a pair of maracas and went "yeah, that's how houses in the future look". I can't imagine any use for the house aside from a center stage to a plot-point, like Hope's house. Was it supposed to act like some kind of base? Wouldn't help since you're always on the move. I can understand why they had to scrap this one. Nothing worth a DLC, if you ask me.

the game is already a hopeless failure that had it's production cut because of the company's budget and shipped out as an incomplete product. No kind of DLC could help the game's numbers, unless it's a 3d porn model viewer :monster:

also, that house looks cramped. soldiers must not be paid much in final fantasy :elmo:

I think it would have been nice having Lightning's house in the final product tbh and even if a piece of DLC for this would come out it could be fine. The house is interesting... I like the design and this is no doubt an interesting article. Lightning's bed sheets are blue? :lew:. Heh well if this got removed from the final product because of content space.. I really don't see why they would not bring it as dlc for people who want it..xD. Cut content in general for XIII was very disappointing as I always say that the game could have had so much more potential.. and scrapping areas is not a way to start. I would have loved the house in the final game becaus ethe game seriously lacks houses and towns. You can not break into people's houses and steal due to the game being very linear. There was Hope's dad's house but even that was not much of a house. You see it mostly in cutscenes.. and you only get to stay for a bit so that was disappointing.

Well I guess they could always throw it in XIII-2. Seriously though I mean why would you go visit her house? It just seems pointless in a game that had nothing to do with towns or any side quest... or very few side quest I should say.

^Since Cocoon is destroyed, the only way to squeeze her house in FFXIII-2 is by flashbacks and memories. Theres absolutely no point of making a flashback to her horrible peanut-looking house. I doubt it would be mentioned.

The house does look good...and even though it probably wouldnt have had much difference whether they added it or not because people still woulda hated it because of the gameplay.

I don't mean to be a gaming politician but I think it was the 360's fault.......FFXIII was linear and had all these cuts........But anyway thats probably the main reason for FFXIII-2. :)

I think the only point of Lightning's house would've been to pick up a somewhat decent accessory or item, maybe even Gil since this game lacked it. Hell it could've turned in ffx-2 and had her changing her outfit or something.
