Do you have any? Store cards?

Do you use them? What are your general opions on them?

Ive got 3, though one Ive never even used. Not sure why I even got it, Im not sure I ever recieved the card thinking about it...some fucks probably frauding my name as we speak :8F: and one was just to transfer the balance from my first card, because there was some offer or other

I've finally paid it off, didnt even activate my new card when i recieved it, i just wanted it gone and done with once and for all, i haaaaaaaate debt - controlled or not, I just hated that I had this thing, with horrible APR to pay off, and making minimum payments just does not get the balance down at all, so my new years resolution was to pay the fucker off :mokken:

Like, i think they are ok for emergencies but I admit I have used mine for silly things like clothes... now though, unless there was a proper 'mergency, i just go without. If i cant afford it i either go without or il just save

My mate's got credit/store cards and is alwayyyyys spending on them and Im always telling her off :8F: Store cards are evil as well, the APR on them can be fucking ridiculous as well

tl;dr: I hate credit cards :mokken:

I applied for a credit card with airmiles just so I could start establishing credit and all that... it hasn't come in yet. =/

Although I'll have to get someone to hide it cause I'm a horrible impulse buyer... I can see myself using it far too much.

Do you have any? Store cards?

Nope and I never have. Neither has Steve. So between us, it's just our savings.

I have had interest free loans from stores for furniture once before, but that was it and that was paid off two years ago now.

Do you use them? What are your general opions on them?

Never have had the chance to use one. I honestly hate them. They're too convenient and easy to just flip out if you really want that top or shoes etc.

If I realise that I have no money left then I just have to leave it which always turns out to be a good thing for me in the end.

I get over not being able to have the top and I don't have any debt to worry about.

If i cant afford it i either go without or il just save

Exactly what I've always done. It's just wiser and makes you more sensible with your money.

My mate's got credit/store cards and is alwayyyyys spending on them and Im

Ugh I know what you mean!

My best friend has three cards and she's always maxing them out. >.< Even after she pays them off and says she wants to cancel them, she goes out and puts more clothes etc on them. >.<

I just couldn't have debt lingering over my head like that. Not to mention the top or whatever it is, ends up being more expensive because you have interest on top of it in the end because of the card. =/

I have one debit card, one credit card and no store cards. I only have one because I need good credit. Mine is pretty immaculate for a 24 year old, which is nice. No loans, no debt to repay. I plan on keeping it like that, too. I'm not a big shopper either. I don't buy things I don't have the money for, so there's really no need for me to have a credit card other than to maintain my good credit. I would never fall into the trap of being sold another card or anything from a store. It's just a ploy that'll hurt me in the end if I have too many payments to worry about.

Places like department stores have their own credit cards which you can chose to have like a regular credit card from a bank. They give you promotions, discounts and some other stuff, but their interest rates can be ridiculous and they often have really low credit limits.

I have 2 credit cards and a debit card. Of the 2 credit cards I have a basic credit card and an American Express card. I've had the basic credit card since i was 20, and it had a really weak limit, like $250 or something. :lew: I've since seen it increase over time to $8,250. My American Express card is unlimited, but I have to pay for it all at the end of the month. I've had my American Express card for about a year and a half now. And I've had my debit card since I got a checking account when I was 18 years old.

I don't use my credit cards all that much. I use them if I make a purchase more than $60 or so, or if I end up spending more than I'm carrying on me, like an emergency. This is preferable for me because the check book is very herky jerky to carry all the time. The credit card fits in my wallet a lot easier than the check book. :lew:

Being one who doesn't spend a lot of money anyways, I like the convenience of them. But my credit card bills are typically low, so I never end up in debt. I also pay the bills outright to prevent interest charges. So I've never had debt issues as a result. And my credit rating is really high as well as a result of such things.

So all in all, I do like the convenience of credit cards. Credit cards can be a persons worst enemy if they spend relentlessly. But if they can maintain control, then it's a great asset.

Oh really? Oh yeah Sears Cards, The Brick an shit... I didn't realize they were so bad like that. =/

That's because they don't really advertise the cons. They make it look all nice and interesting, just like the banks do. But a lot of people don't do their research anyway on just how credit cards work, whether it comes from a bank or a store. That's the way the world of invisible money goes.

yeah with store cards as well, its usually open up an account today and get 15% off your purchase!! what they dont tell you is the interest is usually about 30% <_< I worked in a clothes shop afew years back, and we had to badger the customers to open an account, and we got commission, but I hated doing it. If folk wanted one, they would just ask. It really pissed me off. I'd never do telesales for that same reason either, I know I wouldnt wanna be pestered, so me having to do it, job or not would just make me feel like a hypocrite...anyway, Im going off topiiiiiiic

Oh that reminds me, my accidental washing machine was added to a cred account 44% fucking interest. thank fuck mother bailed me out, I almost DIED

It amazes me they can get away with charging so much, but alas, they can and they do. People just need to be more vigilant and check what they are signing up for.

Yeah the credit card I signed up for had an interest rate of 19% and I thought that was bad. =/ Although tbh I've always wanted a Brick card or just one store credit card and do all the shopping there.. I know my folks have quite a few for different places and now that I'm understanding how this shit works, it's actually kinda scary. :gasp:

...but I need a new bed. ;-;

I would highly, highly, highly advise only having one credit card. You'll get fucked if you're not familiar with the process, the payments, the interests, the bank/store policies, your rights and their rights. It's bad enough that, to have good credit, you have to have a credit card. I'd much rather just use my debit and handle money that's actually IN my account, but alas, that is not the case. Unless you're comfortable having a credit card, and unless you know you can make the payments on time, it's best to deal with only one. It's so incredibly tempting (not for me) for people to fall into the credit card trap.

Oh well no worries there, I'm in no rush to just go on a spending spree... especially while I'm jobless. :monster: And whilst my application for the credit card at the time said I was jobless, I'll probably have a low limit on the card anyway, which will probably be the only way of saving me in the long run from over spending... I'm just the worst impulse buyer with some things.

I live happily under my mom's roof and thus don't need to deal with much financial difficulty. That said, I do have a credit card with a store, but my purchases aren't really monumental - I always pay off my credit card bills before any interest can get incurred ;D

I've got a card with Shopper's Drugmart (I think that's just a Canada thing) and I get, like, 5 points per dollar that get's charged. It isn't much, but I go so often, I thought "why not?"

I kind of want to get a card for groceries too since I do them so often... :hmmm:

Ughhh you've just reminded me I need a new bed. Mines been broke since forever, no wonder I have a bad back :rage:

I'd sooner wait though, so I don't have to use the credit card, especially as Ive just paid the bastard off

We technically have one major credit card - having a line of credit, using it and paying it off promptly is actually better for your credit score than not having one at all, or having one and not using it.

WE'll also will use lines of credit from stores if they're offering any advantageous financing for major purchses (i.e. furniture or appliance stores that offer 12 months same as cash, etc..). They're not evil if you're responsible, understand the fine print and work withing the boundries. They can be good cash flow tools. However, we usually close them out right after they're paid off to keep our credit score up.

I have two store cards, Kohls and the Limited. I have a Kohls charge because I used to work there and everyone had a charge. I got a bigger discount on the things I would buy with the card. And I still use it from time to time. I also have a card from The Limited, and honestly, I only got this one for the discount you get when you sign up for a card. I may be canceling this one soon.

I always hate when stores neg you to sign up for their credit card. You tell them no and they keep telling you all the benefits. There was a time I was in a hurry and this sales clerk (i think it may have been the manager) kept harrassing me to get a card, and finally I slammed my hands down on the counter and yelled "NO I do not want your FUCKING card!" He finally got the message.

The Shopper's Card is awesome.. considering it's not a real credit card. :awesome: And especially when they have 10x points day or whatever, it's a real time saver.. and if you accumulate more points, you can save so much some times. You should get a Save On Card, it works the same way, for Save On Foods/Overwaitea.

Also, Bambi don't even talk about getting a new bed. :gasp: Mine's been mine for two years, my sister's for 17 years before that, and I think maybe even my parents bed. x; it's time for a new one....

Alright so someone explain something for me? This interest thing. Say I go buy a bed worth 1000$ at The Brick, with a credit card with 19% interest rate... I pay off 100 bucks at the end of the month.. but where does the interest come in? At the end of every month, do they add on 19% of my remaining balance, to my remaining balance? Like.. kinda confused and dumb here. =/

I never use any store credit cards, I've only ever used one credit card and one debit card. Really I think it would be way too much to keep track of, I have enough trouble trying to remember what I've spent on those without looking at my accounts all the time :hmmm:

I like the rewards cards that some stores offer, obviously because you're rewarded for spending instead of punished like with a store card. Freddy's (Krogers) here has a rewards card that gives you points every time you shop there and it's free. We get rebates and whatnot, which is good 'cause we're always shopping there.
