Creative Writers

I would love to write a movie script and get it made into a movie but when I start writing I don't know I guess I lose heart of not doing great. I really like writing about the human psyche and how it can be easily damaged but then the character have no substance and just have a unhuman feel to it.

Hmm, someone recently told me that I'd be better off writing Eastenders.

Anyone wanna take a guess who? :P

I wouldn't mind joining. I haven't got much published at all. I've been told I have the imagination, I just need to work on wording it better.

And who told you that Faith?

My first novel would have to be a good one, by my own standards.

Know this:

You're first novel will not be very good. This is because you're just beginning. Several years from now, when you're a successful writer, you'll crack open the unopened copy of your first novel, start reading and exclaim in an old, wavering voice "What the hell was I thinking?!"

Both Sephen King and Dean Koontz concur: No one ever sits down to write an "okay" book. They sit down to write the best damn book there ever was. And still these authors, great and prolific as they are, have turned out good books and bad books.

You have to start your writing somewhere. I freely admit I've entirely scrapped and restarted my first (and, as yet, still work in progress) novel three times. Just to get the beginning write. (There's a little writing humor for ya. ;) )

So, you're first draft--will it suck galactic ass?

Most likely.

Will you get better and better until it's a great piece of literature?

Absolutely.

And that's what everyone in this club is here for--to help each other out and improve their writing.

So start that novel today, man. (If, that is, your schedule can accomadate) I always carry a notebook so I can continue writing when I'm not at the computer, or to just jot down ideas. Coming up with a setting really isn't that hard. I did it while staring out the window on the bus home one day. Just ask yourself "What do I want my world to have?"

Got the idea? Good.
Now, go.
Write!

Well, it's with delight I inform you all that I've been making progress on that poem I mentioned earlier. Doaj, thank you for your advice. I've decided it will be a poem describing Armageddon. I'd like to share with you all the first five stanzas.

I shall lie here in the darkness
And wait for death to come;
'Til the day we must confess,
And our sins are brought to sum.

On that final Day of Days,
as all the world breathlessly waits,
The War to End All Things now plays,
Before the cool deciding Fates.

A horn sounds out, clear and bright,
And is taken up by others.
Calling angels to the fight
To battle their dark brothers.

Two orbs hang in hushed twilight,
Balanced across the burning land.
One, a crimson eye of night,
The other, gold and warm as sand.

Now from the baleful eye of blood,
A black infection boils up;
Sweeping over land a flood,
Drunk from Hatred's bitter cup.

There's more, but that's all for now. ;)
