Alright folks, sound off. Do you think it should be called a Christmas Tree or a Holiday Tree? In this modern age, one person can take offense at a sign called "Christmas Trees for sale" and force the owners to change it to Holiday Tree. Do you think this is right? Does it matter? Are some people just too oversensitive and trolling, or are others not being mindful of other's beliefs?

People are oversensitive. If you want a holiday tree, get one, make one. Just let the christmas tree be what it is, a christmas tree. -.- I hate when people complain about things because they have to go with time! It's like dear god, leave it be, update your own christmas and celebrate it like the weird aussies (somewhere in summer) no offense aussie people.

Just do what you wanna do, don't complain about people having to change what has been the same for years. Is what I feel. :hmph:
 
If you aren't celebrating Christmas what's the point of getting a tree? If there is another Holiday that uses a "Christmas Tree" for celebration then someone PLEASE tell me.
Regardless, it's a Christmas tree. It's always been referred to as such since the idea to use the tree as a Christmas symbol came about, and always will be. (Hopefully)
 
I never really did understand why people got so sensitive and overreact about this. Honestly, it's just a TREE. Who cares what it's called? Why does it really matter if it's a Holiday Tree or a Christmas Tree?

But if I am forced to pick a side, let me say that the primary people who even purchase a Christmas tree anyway are the people who really celebrate Christmas... I'm not trying to be disrespectful to anyone else's culture, but when is the last time you saw a Jewish family or a Muslim family with this tree in their house?
 
Are there any other December/January holidays that include a fir tree like Christmas? I'm not sure of one, but if there is then by all means correct me.

We don't call a Hanukkah menora candles "holiday candles", so...why call the Christmas tree something different? :hmmm: People are way oversensitive. Other beliefs don't like being wished a merry Christmas and that's cool, I can settle with "happy holidays" but there is no sense in renaming things for other purposes. "Happy holidays" is meant to wish someone a happy what-the-fuck-ever, but I don't see other faiths being included in a "holiday tree."
 
Sometimes I think people just like to complain for the sake of complaining. I think this was a big debate where I live a couple of years ago and they mentioned something about it again this year. Frankly, I think there are more important things that state government should be worrying about than changing the name of a Christmas tree. The tree is a traditional symbol of Christmas, not Hannukah or Kwanzaa (which are other holidays celebrated around this time) so why call it a holiday tree?

I wasn't raised Christian and I have never once in my life been offended by someone wishing me a Merry Christmas. Honestly, I think people just have way too much time on their hands if they take offense to something like this.
 
I hate people like that, complete arseholes. I want to slap them around the face and not even explain to them why so it ruins their entire day.

I'm not religious, but I still call it Christmas. To me, Christmas means a time for me to be with family, have some fucking tasty food, copious amounts of alcohol and presents. Lots and lots of presents.

Like, if it's being discussed whether or not to OFFICIALLY change the name of the Christmas Tree.

Someone please find something like this, so us still here on planet Earth have a real reason to be bitching about keeping "Christmas" in the Christmas tree.

Like I said before, it's a Christmas tree. Unless there's another holiday which legitimately adopts this tradition of dressing up a conifer for the sake of dressing up a conifer then there MIGHT be something up for debate about changing the name (However stupid it sounds.) But I wouldn't hold my breath.

Have a VERY Merry Christmas everyone...

Oh, and... Happy Holiday's, to all you other picky people :monster:
 
For the record, Christmas trees weren't always called Christmas trees. At first they were called Yule-trees. So the people who have a problem with the name changing should lighten up a bit, because it had to change to become a Christmas tree in the first place. And before that, they were used in Egyptian rites, and tree worship was common among European pagan winter rites, as pagans saw evergreens as a symbol of eternal life. So, technically, they were "holiday" or "ritual" trees before they were ever Christmas trees.

Call it a Christmas tree, call it a holiday tree, do whatever you want and let other people do whatever they want. It's nooooooooot that big of a deal.

Imo, it'll always be called a Christmas tree, just like Aeris will always be called just that. Mainly because I'm too stubborn to change what I call them. As for what other people should call it...whatever they like I guess. It's not gonna kill me if I hear it called something different.
I think it's way too small of an issue for the name of a tree to be legally changed (or morally changed...whatever is going on stateside). It's a bloody tree.
And yes, people are being over-sensitive. If I heard someone complaining about the name of a tree in public I'd think of them as a crazy tree-hugger with nothing better to do.

Personal background info (which might explain a bit): My parents see christians coming to knock on the door and they say: "bloody bible bashers are here again". I've taken that train of thought even into adulthood...and could never be convinced into believing in a god. But that's just me. And this seems off-topic...I might edit this out depending on the reaction :hmmm: .

It's completely wrong...if they celebrate Christmas (whether it be for religious purposes or just for fun) then they can surely cope with the name of a tree shop sign being the same name as the holiday.
I mean, if the shop owner decided to change the sign on his own, then that's his choice, but to be pressured into it by atheists...is just wrong. I can't quite explain it right, but there's no need to change it just for the sake of pleasing a few fussy people.
Let's face it, I'm an atheist and I don't give two figs. So why should any of the others other than to be an annoying segment of humanity :hmmm:
 
I've never heard anyone call it a holiday tree before. That is just silly.
It's a Christmas tree, it's for christmas. Who cares if it has a religious meaning behind it. Enjoy the day and what comes with it. People need to stop worrying about such small crap.
 
A holiday tree how fucking stupid. Its a christmas tree. Why would people who dont celebrate christmas be offended by that? This is the stupidest thing ive ever read and shouldnt even be in this section. Its a christmas tree and if you dont like the word christmas scrooooooooooge then bugger off home and let the rest of enjoy it.

Even athiests celebrate christmas. All my friends who are call it a christmas tree. Not a holiday tree. That sounds like some exotic plant tree or something. Morons these days.

The problem with this, and the irony, is that setting up trees in the house is a CHRISTMAS TRADITION, not a Jewish, Muslim, atheist, etc. tradition. They may do it for the sentiment, but they should stop whining- if you adhere to a tradition, expect people to state it for the tradition that it is.

This is political correctness gone haywire.
 
Would people buy a tree for any other holiday than Christmas? (It started out as a pagan tradition right?) Do people who celebrate Christmas but are not religious call the day "the holiday?" I say, call it whatever you want. And sellers should have the right to call it either a Christmas or holiday tree. Which ever they prefer. It's silly when people make a big deal over names.

It's sort of misleading when stated that way. Christmas means "Christ's Mass", and replaced pagan tradition. Jesus was not actually born on Christmas, but since nobody knows the exact date, the Church took the opportunity to override the pagan tradition so that people would recognize Christianity instead.

I'm not sure about the Christmas tree, but Santa Claus is based on a Catholic Saint and gift giving is based on the three wise men who brought gifts to baby Jesus.

And Easter is now Egg-Hunting behind a tree or your Dad's Garden Day

New's Years. That's way too offensive to the Chinese whom have their New Years in Feb. It should be called January 1st Day.

Boxing Day ? No. That's way too violent sounding. It should be re-named shopping for fun if you want to, or maybe not because of all the sales usually during this time day.

Valentines Day ? Oh those poor wee souls that don't have a date ! It might hurt somebody who is single ! It should be renamed to buy some Chocolates Day.

Birthday ? No. Can't do anymore. Somebody doesn't have the same Birthday as you ! Also no more gifts, that's rude to the others who don't have their Birthday the same day as you. Rename it to I was pushed out of my Mother's Fanny Day.
