the auditions were good for a laugh in the early days. But like everything else it got old. People were clicking on that a bad auditions could get them 5 minutes of fame.

That's true. They have apparently rounds of auditions before they get the televised auditions too, so there are many opportunities for people to let them go gently without embarrassing themselves on national television.

Also a girl I know went for the auditions in Dublinia, got through the pre-panels great, no bother to her. Then she was taken aside into a room and asked 'what is the saddest thing that has ever happened to you?'

Guess it all comes down to ratings and pity parties ultimately :hmmm:

Also I have a friend who likes that song, can't say I see the appeal myself
 
They take most talented people and give them an image and sound that has been done over and over again anyway.
