Multiple Platforms Call of Duty: The Vietnam War Edition

Moving out of WWII is certainly the norm now, especially after the astounding reception and success of Cod 4: Modern Warfare. I'm glad Treyarch are doing this as well. Though COD 7 wouldn't be the first FPS to be set in the Vietnam War, it will certainly be a fresh alternative to the (stale) WWII setting and modern day warfare.

Then again I'm not too excited anyway. I've never been an avid FPS fan, although I know that Treyarch is always having a hard act to follow nowadays with Infinity Ward's games preceding theirs. Treyarch will no doubt create a great game with interesting new weaponry and a new, exotic setting, but I don't think the quality will exceed the Modern Warfare COD titles.

I could be wrong though, you never know.

depends, then again, CoD fans are split between Infinity Wards Modern Warfare Subseries, and Treyarch who is doing the WWII and now Vietnam theme.

I still think the WWII setting can be expanded upon a lot more than it already has, but moving to the Vietnam War seems to be an interesting proposition. As long as they do a more cohesive storyline this time...:gasp:

it's basically a video game version of movies like Apocalypse Now and Platoon.

[MOD EDIT: Hey bud, mind elaborating a bit? Like what are both of these movies about? Thanks :)]

Vietnam is a harder war to approach. In WW2 the Nazis were obviously the bad guys, that's not the case in Vietnam. Also Vietnam was a guerilla war with not a lot of big open battles so that would make it difficult to be a realistic game. It'll probably be like CoD6 but you kill Vietnamese instead of Germans.

you either meant CoD5 or the Afghans/Russians/Brazillians...

Either way, in terms of how Modern Warfare is fought these days, there never really is big open battles. MW2 came close with the Rio missions, but I dunno.

I thought call of duty 7 will be the sequel to modern warfare 2,but now we have something like world at war 2.This game will be so bloody and hellish, but we have to wait like November 2011 for mw 3.

By the way cod 7 is still a working title.

well then again, when you think about it, it took IW 2 years to make MW2, so maybe it will give them a chance to work on what would be on MW3, in the meantime, let Treyarch have there chance with CoD7.

PS: I know CoD7 is the working title, I just wanted to call the thread as such...

I can't say I'm overly excited, it's nice moving away from the whole World War II theme, but nowadays FPS's that focus on real wars all seem to feel the same to me. The exception to this being MW and MW2. I dunno whether I'll invest it CoD7 :hmmm:

Call of duty 7 in vietnam huh? Not a bad idead tbh but I dont think it will be better than Mw2 or sell more than MW2. Its onna be like another Cod WAW or something. If there is oing to be a MW3 why would they not release it next year? Cod has too many games and is a great franchise but everyone seems to like MW2 now.

probably because if they release it the year after instead of 2 years after, then it would not be as good. More development time = better game.

Apparently there's no certainty that there will be a Modern Warfare 3. There's rumours floating around that people from Infinity Ward said they have no plans for a Modern Warfare 3.

All being said, the amount of profit it made and popularity it has it'd be daft not to make a MW3. It's an interesting proposition nonetheless. :hmmm:

they'll most likely be making MW3. Unless they decide to let the whole franchise (including the MW titles) be run by Treyarch.

Yeah wasnt COD Black Ops coming end of this year? I heard it will have Vietnam aspects of some sorts but not the entire game will revolve about vietnam right? Or am I wrong...

Unfortunatley for fans of the series it does look like Modern Warfare 3 could indeed never see the light of day, following the firing of the lead directors and designers of the Infinity Ward department, there has been a class action lawsuit filed against activision for royalties that were apparently not paid to the Infinity Ward directors and also a lawsuit for the legitimate legal rights over the modern warfare brand.

It has also been revealed that most of the old Infinity Ward team have now left to join the new company Respawn Enterntainment, thus the black-ops pack is now in development by Raven Entertainment another of the software houses under the activision brand.

To be honest I totally saw this coming, MW2 was practically rushed out of the door at Bobby "Money" Kodricks demand, as seen with the Javelin Glitch, the carepackage glitch and the lackluster peer to peer server IWnet that made most of the PC community feel like they were back on Diablo 2 Battlenet all over again.

As of current, MW3 is still in development, as is CoD:VW however, if MW3 see light of day, or if it will be of the same quality of the previous titles, is something that is always going to be in question until more news is heard.

Personally, I hope infinity ward/respawn entertainment win, there is no room in this world for the old gorgonite tactics that were previously used by EA, and hopefully this will lead to the demise of Kodrick as CEO of Activision, any guy that refuses to play his own product and stop short of calling his clients idiots, deserves to take a long fall off a 50 story building.
