what did you think was the best music in FF9?

mine was the battle theme, best ff battle theme there is

very tough question, because basically every music in FFIX is good...

But I will say either 'Not Alone' or 'Village of Dali'. I prefer the original OST of 'not alone', but I love the piano collections of 'Village of Dali' better (currently learning).

The music of Dali is really soothing. It really feels like a good rest after the tough battles. Its innocence doesn't give any clue to the deep secrets in the village, i.e. (spoiler)
manufacturing of black mages underground

While 'not alone' really fits the scene when Zidane was (spoiler)
struggling in Pandemonium.
. I really like the climax part of the song. It's pure epic.

I also agree that the battle theme of FFIX is one of the best battle themes. If only it's fully orchestrated. Some other notable pieces I like are: Melodies of life (in all variations; there are tons of variations in this game), Rose of May (or Beatrix's theme or loss of me or something to protect), inseperable hearts, beyond the door, the boss battle music, Treno, Daguerreo, Unrequited Love, Eternal Harvest...... OK EVERY MUSIC IN FFIX ROCKS lol

I wish that the future FF titles incorporate MORE melodic pieces like in the older games composed by Nobuo Uematsu. The newer pieces like in XII and XIII, although fully orchestrated, are easily forgotten due to its lack of melody.

I do like some of the few music in XII and XIII. There are some melodic pieces like Memories of Happier Days (variation of Vanille's theme) that really feels like 'OMG I am in Final Fantasy (finally T^T)'

You're damn right it's a tough question. I fucking loved the FF9 OST.

Buuuuut, I'd have to say that Beatrix's Theme and A Place To Call Home were my most favorite out of the whole soundtrack. <3 A Place To Call Home really goes with all of the character's stories. If that makes sense. xD (referring to the name.)

I'm almost done playing FF9 for the 5th time (I think). As always, I loved most of its songs. I particularly like the music of that underground cave in Esto Gaza with directions from moles(ugh, I forgot the name:rage:). That one was unusual yet fitting to the place--it was cute. I also like Daguerreo and Beatrix's theme. Those were beautiful compositions. Lastly, the boss battles were fantastic. :8F: It's hyper and and somehow...bouncy.

FF9 still holds the best game soundtrack for me so far.

This is pretty hard. Most of the song in IX are really good.
I think i'll go with "The Black Mages Village" (I think that's what it's called) and "A Place To Call Home".
"Black Mages Village" is really catchy. Makes me want to start dancing to it and "A Place To Call Home" has a feel of melancholy about it. I really love that song. ;D

I'm gonna have to agree with everyone that the battle music is pure epicness, but Melodies of Life is my favorite piece of music in almost all the Final Fantasys, only one piece of music tops that and that is Suteki Da Ne.

It's difficult to answer this question... Personally, IX was the first Final Fantasy whose music actually captivated me. It was only after IX that I started paying more attention to game music and actually liked X after that... Having said that, my opinion of the OST in IX is simply 'brilliant'.

I heard it's Nobuo's favorite work as well.

Anyway, if I really have to choose, I'd choose the following (Not ranked):

- Jesters of the Moon
- Loss of Me
- Melodies of Life
- Border Village Dali (Which I'm currently learning :D)
- Treno~ the City that never Sleeps
- Battle Theme
- Dark Messenger
- Final Battle Theme
- Lindblum theme
- Alexandria Theme
- Zidane's theme
- Burmecia Theme
- Bran Bal~ The Soulless Village
- You're Not Alone

... And more.

Damn, it makes me want to play through it all over again... :\ I'll probably go get a PSX emulator on my PSP and play through it there when I can after my examinations this week.

OMG I am learning village of Dali piano collections too :D Are you learning the same version?

And I am planning to continue my FFIX (still stuck in Memoria, the last dungeon) after my examinations this week too.

Creepy coincidence o_O

I loved the OST for IX. My favorite track is the theme for Lindblum Grand Castle. There wasn't a song I could say that I didnt like from this game. I think this game has the 2nd best OST, behind FFX.

I can't pick one here, it's imposible :wacky:

You're not alone, Rose of May, Evil Messenger alllll immense. I'm ashamed to admit I'l blast the first andlast out when they pop up on my play list I really like the music in Burmecia as well

the majority of the ost for IX is ace really, I never realised just how good it was til I downloaded it and I keep listening to it -__-

Ipsen's Heritage or A Transcient Past. Sound similar, of course, but they were amazing tracks. Pretty much the whole of the third Disc was amazing. Probably the best FF Soundtrack too.

~Yay what a super special awesome yet very very difficult post to choose lol personally i love every song from FFIX but ill think of some of my favs knowing me ill forget a few
~Well for just catchy techno tunes id have to say Black Mage Village lol
~For makin me sleepy(i think i actually fell asleep to it once on accident lol) would be Village of Dali just so soothing mmmmmmmm*go's to sleep*
~I just love the battle and boss music for FFIX favorite battle and boss musics of all games not just FF games XD
~Another favorite would be Rose of May so beautiful a song :beatrix: i also seem to recall a girl who made a song to Rose of May on youtube but im not sure if its still around. Oh andif you dont like the slowness of Rose of May theirs always the song Something to Protect. :x3:
~Oh that reminds me Wavering Blade was a slap in te face song pretty much letting you know your gonna lose to Beatrix .
~I also love how so many characters got teme music in FFIX cid, the main characters, beatrix, the black waltz(kickass black mages XD), jesters, i think a few more might be wrong lol
~Oh but i always like the Prima Vista Orchestra lol so fancy and bouncy :x3:
~Festival of the Hunt was always a good heart pumper lol.
~Oh Darkness of Eternity also known as Dark Messenger lol is a super duper cooleo theme to listen too lol very epic XD
~Well i believe im starting to ramble lol but one last one that some people may not know about but at the auction house in teno if you buy Une's Mirror and Doga's Artifact and enter the Black Mage Village's Inn later on in the game you'll hear a remake of the song Doga and Une which is a nod to Doga and Une's theme from FFIII lol their both really great songs :x3:

ahh my favorite was a tie between

Melodies Of Life
&
Kuja's Theme (millennium version)

I also like Fake Love allot

It's very hard for me to choose from the battle music, the boss music, black mage village and feel my blade. Yeah, I can't choose between them.

Gasp i just remembered my favorite song i FFIX :x3: i cant believe i forgot lol.
~Dark city Treno~ this song is so bouncy and fun and it still seems to hold a high and mightiness to it that i absolutly adore!! I also love the fact that i got my mom(who plays piano) interested in FFIX just so i could make her learn this song(after i printed off the thingy forgot what its called lol) and play it on the piano whenever we'd visit her moms house lol y the end of the visit i'd just be following mom ll over the house saying "Play it! Play it! Play it!" till she cracks lol :x3:

So many choices. Hmm.

My favorites would be the theme from Mount Gulug (if you REALLY missed this allusion put down the spin-off game and play the original FF), Ipsen's Heritage, Over the Hills, Outlaws, Theme of the Tantalus, Darkness of Eternity, Ambush Attack (is that the name?), Run!, Festival of the Hunt, and Final Battle. But I agree just about every song in the game is epic and full of WIN. Hands down.
