Batman: Arkham City trailer introduces Hugo Strange

Yeah. This is one of the reasons why 2011’s going to be “1337″.

Batman: Arkham City got its first full airing since it was revealed at last years VGAs as Arkham Asylum 2.
The trailer for this year’s event sees us being introduced to Hugo Strange, who is in charge of Arkham City itself.
The clip sees Batman take on a SWAT force, a member of which we see being tortured by Strange.
Going by tonight’s trailer, don’t miss this. Watch it below.
Batman: Arkham City releases next fall for PS3, 360 and PC.

First of all I am a huge fan of Batman...I like him in Justice League (animations) all his animation movies and Live Action movies..

Its like he has no powers at all, but without him the world would have been destroyed a long time ago...(Im basing this on Justice League)

I never played Batman: Arkham Asylum (Only Demo) but it seemed fun, although I cant be bothered buying it...

If this new title shows promising gameplay trailers etc in the year to come.. I will definitely purchase this...

Now as for this CGI trailer....its stunning imo.. I never seen a CGI clip with this magnitude...im sorry NEVER...

At first I was like is this a real live action trailer....but no its CGI..

The details...its ridiculous....I couldnt tell difference from reality at 80% of the trailer...

But CGI is only CGI...I'll wait for the same level of beauty but in gameplay.

Its on my TO WATCH list.

I never really expected to like Arkham Asylum because superhero games are never usually my kind of thing until the demo enticed me into getting the game. And I loved it to bits, so I already had the sequel on my wishlist since. As expected, they're taking this down a much darker route than the first, which I kind of welcome - give Bats more of an actual threat this time. I've seen some people whinge about the absence of driving gameplay involved with the Batmobile which I don't quite understand. Okay yes, it's a whole city now (kind of), but I'd rather they build up on what was accomplished with Arkham Asylum than shoehorn in some driving sequences that probably won't fit in well.

I saw comments on this trailer at Gametrailers about how they want the game to be rated M. Now, I don't mind if this is a mature rated game, because I think it would fit the dark mood they're putting out with the trailer. However, am I the only one who would be bothered if they made it so that Batman could kill all the villains?

I did play Batman Arkham Asylum and it was really well done... However I am not big on Batman or superheroes in general. I do see that they took a darker approach on Arkham city though. I would say they sorta went Assassins creed on Batman now with Arkham asylum and now Arkham City :wacky: I downloaded the demo of Arkham Asylum when it came out. Played that and thought it was a great game. I didnt buy the game however. I beat it at a friend's house. Hugo Strange... One of the scarier bad guys :hmmm:

I didn't expect Arkham Asylum to be as good as it was cause I was never really into batman games and thought it would be crap but the game was done really well and I couldn't find anything wrong with it the enclosed places worked really well and the gadgets you got to use were brilliant. I have really high exceptions of this game because of the first so I am hoping that the story will have a couple of twists and that there will be different gadgets to use.

A trailer which seems to be from Batman: Arkhum City has appeared featuring the Joker and Batman fighting together against bad guys.

We know this doesn’t sound right, but that’s what’s going on in the trailer. This also probably means the game will featuring co-op.
You can check the trailer out over here.

I'm excited about the game because my favorite villian Two Face is going to be in it. That's reason enough for me to want to play it. I thought the first game was really good but it didn't really hold alot of replay value for me. I also think they need to work on the stealth system of the next game. The one in the first game just felt clunky to me.

I agree 100%. Two-Face is my favorite Batman villain. I'm so psyched about this game coming out. It looks great and I like how your tools will play more effectively in combat this time. Arkham Asylum was the best Batman game ever made and I'm hoping Arkham City can top it. I heard the map is 4x bigger then in Arkham Asylum. I think it's going to be epic.

I'm glad Harlequin is going to make a return in Arkham City, I loved everything about her character in Arkham Asylum. If the game is anything like Arkham Asylum then it'll be amazing, I'm not really excited about villain A or B returning since I was never big on superhero comics but if the keep the basics that were set in AA and use that has a platform with developed game mechanics it should be unreal. Cannot wait.

I'm already sitting on hot coals about this game. It's got more standards to live up to than it knows what to do with and yet it just... LOOKS. SO. BLOODY. GOOD.

D: Curse you, Rocksteady studios, you'll be draining my wallet again. Just the fact that Catwoman is showing up (and looking very very sexy, thank you and goodnight) is enough to entice me. The rest of the characters so far confirmed just make me happier. And I'm not even the biggest Bat-fan I know. My buddy Adam, though, who IS one of the biggest Bat-fans in Europe is massively happy. It's almost hilarious to listen to him glee about it.

Best Buy: Pre-order Batman: Arkham City for playable Robin

Boy
, we wonder if we'll be able to play as Robin in any segment of Batman: Arkham City. Best Buy believes so, with the retailer's latest weekly ad touting the feature for pre-orderers. When you pre-order Arkham City from Best Buy, according to the listing, you get a "Best Buy exclusive downloadable Robin character" for use in two challenge maps.

This sounds exactly like the Joker challenge maps from the first game, which were offered free with the PS3 version. Well, not exactly, as this Robin offer pertains to PS3, PC, and Xbox 360. Regardless, is a playable Robin any less believable than a playable Joker? Regardless, pending an official confirmation by WB, we're regarding this reveal as a rumor, just like the urban legends of the invincible Dark Knight and his unbeatable partner, a small child.

Source: Best Buy

I heard about Robin at the MCM Expo in May (Well, not so much heard of as saw a massive picture of him next to Batman's at its booth) and I must say, his absence added with the absence of Catwoman is what stopped me from buying Arkham Asylum. As awesome as Bruce Wayne is, I'd rather have more of my favourites popping their heads in too, ta.

And if they can make Catwoman playable, nae, if they can make The JOKER playable, I'm pretty sure everyone's favourite sidekick can be playable too. :monster:

So. The only question left is which Robin is it, Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, or Damian Wayne? My money is on Dick (lol) seeing as how he is the OG. Though Damian Wayne as Robin would mean all four making an appearence, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Red Robin. :yay: Alas, I'm probbaly being too optimistic there, and gotta keep in mind that the more mainstream audience this game is aimed towards wouldn't know the Batclan has that many folk in it.

Arkham City E3 demo shows off Catwoman, Two-Face and The Penguin

The Batman: Arkham City E3 demo begins in a room full of nervous goons. As ominous shadows flit about the darkness, the seemingly macho thugs voice their fears; "it's the bat!" they whimper. As a figure drops out of the gloom, the henchmen immediately relax. It's not Batman after all; it's just a poor defenceless woman. In a cat suit.

As the cutscene gives way to the game a proper, Catwoman teaches the goons why they should have been scared. She dances from enemy to enemy with a lot more grace than her bat-like counterpart, but combat still handles in much the same way as in Arkham Asylum. After clawing her enemies to death with dagger-like nails, she's left in the room to go about her business: theft.

Tapping LB, Catwoman is able to bring up her own version of Detective mode: thief mode. A scan of her surroundings reveals the objective; a vault at the far end of the room. As she saunters over to it, I become aware of the sterling job Rocksteady has done with her character model (she looks well fit, in other words). As a camera from within the vault shows Catwoman cracking it open, a hand appears from off screen and pushes a gun to her temple.

Cut to Batman, loitering on the roof of a building overlooking Arkham City. In the sequel, there's much more of an emphasis on the open world style of play - the whole city is open from the off this time around. Throwing himself off the building, Batman reveals a new trick: pressing RT while gliding prompts the caped crusader to close his wings and plummet towards the floor. Let go of the trigger in time, however - whilst pulling back on the left stick - and Batman will convert this momentum to a vertical direction. While he can't fly, he can use this trick to reach anywhere in the city without ever having to touch the floor.

Batman soon reaches the location where Catwoman is being held captive. One half of the building is furnished with expensive looking ornaments with walls plastered in fine wallpaper, whilst the other is downtrodden and literally falling to pieces; a house with two very distinct sides. I had a pretty good idea of who might have gotten the better of Catwoman by this point.

As Batman reaches the main hall of the building, we see poor old Selina Kyle hanging upside down with a pool of acid bubbling away mere inches from her lovely face. Shortly after we see her captor, Harvey Dent - or as he's better known: Two Face.

Despite beating the crap out of a room full or goons in order to save her, Catwoman manages to free herself, in the end. As the pair exchange feline related jokes - a shameless attempt at flirting - the conversation is interrupted by a gunshot narrowly missing Catwoman's head. Using Detective mode, Batman then works out the trajectory of the shot in order to determine where the bullet was fired from. Once again, the investigation side of the game is a big focus here.

The third and final section of the demo offers a first glimpse at The Penguin, who runs his mouth off for a bit before commanding a swarm of henchman to attack Batman. Arkham City can handle much more enemies on screen than its predecessor, allowing for brawls on a much larger scale than before. New additions to Batman's repertoire of moves also make things more exciting. My favourite from the demo was targeting an enemy with the grapple-hook, and then kicking their face in when they were yanked close enough. Gadgets will play a much more important role in combat this time around, I was told.

Arkham City is a sequel in the traditional sense: it's bigger, better and boasts improvements in all the right places. But it did strike me as more of the same. This isn't a bad thing at all, of course.

Batman: Arkham City is due for release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on October 21

Update#1

Batman: Arkham City Penguin will be “really nasty”

Batman-Arkham-City-Boot-header.jpg

The Penguin has never exactly been the most intimidating of Batman villains – but Rocksteady Studios are out to change all that in Batman: Arkham City, turning the character from a joke into a “real nasty piece of work”.

“With Penguin, we felt there was a character who has maybe been shown with a bit of levity, a bit of a funny character,” Game Director Sefton Hill told NowGamer. “We wanted to show he was a real nasty bit of work, a bit of a darker side to Penguin while keeping him very recognisable.”

One way Rocksteady have done that involves a beer bottle and the Penguin’s face: “He’s got a story in the game that he tells about what happened to the other guy. He got the bottle in the face but the other guy ended up a lot worse off.”

It’s not just how about how the Penguin looks, though – he’ll also represent a very different challenge to Batman’s other nemesis, the Joker: “He has a gladiator pit where everyone goes in and fights and only the last guy left standing gets to join his crew, so his guys are really tough, he has weapons in Arkham City as well. Even at the start of the game if you go to Penguin’s turf, there are guys with guns there. It’s a really dangerous place to be.”

It certainly sounds like this incarnation of the Penguin – a “cockney geezer Penguin but very nasty” – will be a far more threatening prospect than previous portrayals such as Burgess Meredith in the 1960s TV show or Danny De Vito’s in Batman Returns.

[h=1]Rocksteady teases Batman: Arkham City DLC with a shot of Harley’s boots[/h] Rocksteady is teasing a DLC reveal for Batman: Arkham City by tweeting a dark picture of a pair of boots and the end of a massive hammer. Do the boots look familiar? They should, as they are resemble the ones worn by Harley Quinn in the game, and DLC for her has been rumored for ages now. Well, at least since the start of the month. We’ll mail Warner. Thanks, NeoGAF.
