6 studios working on Assassin’s Creed Revelations
The development of the fourth game in the Assassin’s Creed series has been confirmed, and it has quite the army supporting it.
Titled Assassin’s Creed Revelations, the 2011 game is once again led by Ubisoft Montreal, but with five additional Ubisoft studios assisting: Annecy, Massive Entertainment, Quebec, Singapore and Bucharest. Massive is the new addition, the rest were involved in Brotherhood as well.
The entire series has sold more than 28 million units worldwide to date, today’s announcement also says; plenty of reasons for another one then.
Assassin’s Creed Revelations is seen as the final chapter in protagonist Ezio trilogy and will gallop players to Constantinople, the heart of the Ottoman Empire, where those pesky Templars are up to no good again.
The multiplayer component introduced in last year’s game will return, “refined and expanded,” with added maps, modes and characters up for grabs.
In addition, according to Ubi Montreal’s creative director Alexandre Amancio, players can expect “lots of new features and some significant surprises.” But those are being held back for now.
The game will be out in November for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Should history repeat itself though, expect the PC version to slip into 2012.
More information will be included in the June issue of Game Informer, and of course at E3 next month. For now though, check a larger version of the first screenshot above in the gallery here.
The Multiplayer Of Assassin's Creed Revelations
We start our coverage of Revelations with a bang. Our video interview reveals how multiplayer is evolving in the new game.
Andreane Meunier is the Live Team Producer on Assassin's Creed Revelations, which is a fancy way of saying that she helps coordinate all the online features and interactivity that will help Revelations shine. During our recent visit to Ubisoft Montreal, she was kind enough to sit down and share some details about exactly what is changing about the multiplayer experience in Assassin's Creed Revelations.
Like Brotherhood, Revelations' multiplayer mode is a central element of the experience. The cat-and-mouse gameplay concepts that were so popular in Brotherhood will return, but they'll be accompanied by a number of changes that increase flexibility and affect how players interact with the game. There's also an extensive degree of customization and storytelling that has now worked its way into the multiplayer modes.
To learn more, check out our interview with Meunier below.

Update:
In a recent interview, Ubisoft’s Andreane Meunier revealed some of what’s in store for gamers with ‘Assassin’s Creed Revelations’ multiplayer, and two new images.
Assassin’s Creed fever has been hitting us pretty hard, and Ubisoft is making sure that we’re not going to be well anytime soon. The latest bits of news come from an interview with Andreane Meunier, Live Team Producer on Assassin’s Creed Revelations, and focuses on what new features fans can expect from the multiplayer of the next installment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
In the multiplayer component of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood players took on the role of Templars in training at Abstergo who had entered multiple animi, honing their assassin skills in order to prepare for battle with Desmond.
These various character types were popular with the Assassin’s Creed community, and Meunier told Game Informer that in Assassin’s Creed Revelations players will have more customization options to better tailor their character’s appearance to their liking by costumizing the costumes and some of the minor features of the characters.
To help gamers get in the mood for Assassin’s Creed Revelations’ multiplayer, here’s the first screen of what players can expect to see.

On the topic of customization, players will have a lot more control over what maps and modes they play when choosing a match in Revelations. Similarly, playlists are being added to the fold so that it will be easier to get right into the game types they want. There will also be a focus on making it easier to play with your friends, so gamers can expect a lot more community features to help support that as well.
Some of the multiplayer maps will focus on locations from Constantinople, the city that the bulk of the main storyline will take place in, but other maps will focus on areas that are closely related in history to the Constantinople era that has been chosen for Revelations.
Some features that are being added to the single-player campaign are also going to be making their way to multiplayer while others will be, “reminisced in little features.” Which features these would be was not clarified, but this could mean that the new hookblade will be making its way to multiplayer.
Alternatively, players might be placing bombs as traps effectively bringing claymores to Revelations‘ multiplayer. Zip-lines would be another great addition that could help players make a speedy escape in some situations, with the obvious downfall of leaving players vulnerable during travel.
While Brotherhood’s multiplayer had what amounted to a premise in place of a story, Assassin’s Creed Revelations’ multiplayer will have an actual narrative to accompany it. Again gamers will take the role of employees working for Abstergo, and if they’re good employees, they’ll progress and get more and more info about how the company works.
This will in turn provide some insight into the motivation behind why Abstergo does the things it does, giving players a look at the other side of the story that they haven’t really seen yet.
One other image was shown during the interview, but instead of a screenshot from the game it’s concept art. With Meunier discussing the additional locations being relevant to Constantinople, this particular image seems to hint at something else.

Is it possible that gamers will also be playing during different time periods in multiplayer? Is this even a screenshot from the multiplayer? We know that Altair will be making an appearance in Assassin’s Creed Revelations, even though it hasn’t been clear in what capacity. With Altair being prominently featured in the series of teaser trailers before the game’s reveal it can be expected that his role in the game is not a minor one.
Then does this concept art suggest overlapping storylines where Ezio and Altair both explore the same areas but in different time periods? Will the multiplayer feature maps from different time periods? There’s still a lot of questions that need to be answered, and surely we’ll be getting the low down at E3 this year, or, if Ubisoft really wants to keep us bed-ridden, before then.
Are you looking forward to more Assassin’s Creed multiplayer in Revelations? How do you feel about more customization when it comes to assassin types?
Assassin’s Creed Revelations will bring assassinating for Abstergo back sometime in November for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

The game will be set in Constantinople, which will be split into 4 huge districts (Constantin, Beyazid, Imperial and Galata). Another key point to note is that Ezio will be over 50 years old in the game. There’s lots more. You can go through them below.
We’ve the lot for you below:
- The bulk of the game is set in Constantinople which will be split into 4 huge districts (Constantin, Beyazid, Imperial and Galata)
- You’ll also visit Cappadocia
- Ezio is over 50 years old in this game
- Ezio has a new item called the hookblade which allows him to use ziplines throughout the city. UBI says that it speeds up navigation by about 30%
- You can also use the hookblade to reach out and pull enemies in for a combo
- Ezio can now make bombs through a crafting system. UBI says that there are over 300 bomb types
- They’ve modified the control scheme so that circle/B will control the hookblade and triangle/Y will control project weapons and bombs
- Eagles vision has become eagle sense. “Eagle sense let’s you focus on a character and see where he’s been,” Amancio says. “You’ll get an approximation of where he will go. If you’re able to detect the path a guard will take, you can run ahead, set a bomb, and create a trap or an ambush.”
- They’ve expanded on the Borgia Towers concept in order to create a new system. Throughout the city there are Assassin’s Den’s, you’ll need to complete various assault scenarios in order take down the Templar presence (UBI says that there’s more variety than in the Borgia Towers). Once you obtain a den you’ll be able to upgrade the buildings in that region along with adding ziplines across the rooftops. You’ll also be able to change the guards from being hostile to neutral.
- You can lose control of you dens as you gain notoriety. You’ll be able to send your own troops after the templars if you’re unable to make it back to the specific den that’s being attacked. You can do that by making it to any of the other dens that you currently control. You’ll also be able to install a master assassin to control a specific den and you’ll never have to worry about it being taken over.
- The assassin leveling mechanic has been increased from 10 to 15
- In order to make the world more immersive they’ve done away with traditional side missions in favor of random events. For example you may be traveling through a city and notice a shop owner being robbed or a little girl asking for help
- They’re using a new type of capture facial technology called Mocam that GI describes as an “intriguing amalgamation of traditional animation, performance capture and the fascinating new style of performance on display in games like LA Noire.”
- Desmond is placed back inside Animus where he finds a safe mode called the ‘Black Room’. You’ll be able to access Desmond’s lost memories through that back door
- The gameplay during Desmond’s game is described as narrative-fueled puzzle sequences. “Through the manipulation and creation of geometry with the game world, Desmond seeks to reintegrate the splintered layers of his subconscious.”
- Multiplayer is returning but this time they’re trying to give more focus to the narrative since that’s a big part of AC
- You’ll be able to custom your character appearance and weapons as well as create guilds.
- Ancel notes that he’s been working on BG&E2 for “a while”. He said they’ve had a little break from that project that that’s where RO started
- He noted that few people finished the original Rayman due to its difficulty. They hope to change that by making this one more accessible while still offering a challenge
- They’re trying to design the game to fit various platforming styles. So people that enjoy collecting will have plenty to collect but it’s also being designed for those that like to do speedruns
- The Lums you collect will act as currency for new power ups, health and ‘I Dare You’ challenges.
- ‘I Dare You’ challenges are where you wager on whether you can complete a complex, acrobatic chain.
- The game now supports 4 player local (they don’t say anything about online) co-op.
- “The levels are designed with both single-playing and multiplayer in mind, so no one is at a loss if a player tackles the game alone or in a group.
- In order to keep the game accessible all characters will have the same abilities
- While the game was a downloable title it has since become a full retail title. Ancel said that comes from people wanting to make a real sequel
- It’s due this holiday for the PS3 and 360
