Game Informer AC: Revelations Details revealed

The latest issue of Game Informer has reached subscribers and there’s a lot of new details regarding the next Assassin’s Creed title in there.

SPOILER WARNING
The game will be set in Constantinople, which will be split into 4 huge districts (Constantin, Beyazid, Imperial and Galata). Another key point to note is that Ezio will be over 50 years old in the game. There’s lots more. You can go through them below.
We’ve the lot for you below:

  • The bulk of the game is set in Constantinople which will be split into 4 huge districts (Constantin, Beyazid, Imperial and Galata)
  • You’ll also visit Cappadocia
  • Ezio is over 50 years old in this game
  • Ezio has a new item called the hookblade which allows him to use ziplines throughout the city. UBI says that it speeds up navigation by about 30%
  • You can also use the hookblade to reach out and pull enemies in for a combo
  • Ezio can now make bombs through a crafting system. UBI says that there are over 300 bomb types
  • They’ve modified the control scheme so that circle/B will control the hookblade and triangle/Y will control project weapons and bombs
  • Eagles vision has become eagle sense. “Eagle sense let’s you focus on a character and see where he’s been,” Amancio says. “You’ll get an approximation of where he will go. If you’re able to detect the path a guard will take, you can run ahead, set a bomb, and create a trap or an ambush.”
  • They’ve expanded on the Borgia Towers concept in order to create a new system. Throughout the city there are Assassin’s Den’s, you’ll need to complete various assault scenarios in order take down the Templar presence (UBI says that there’s more variety than in the Borgia Towers). Once you obtain a den you’ll be able to upgrade the buildings in that region along with adding ziplines across the rooftops. You’ll also be able to change the guards from being hostile to neutral.
  • You can lose control of you dens as you gain notoriety. You’ll be able to send your own troops after the templars if you’re unable to make it back to the specific den that’s being attacked. You can do that by making it to any of the other dens that you currently control. You’ll also be able to install a master assassin to control a specific den and you’ll never have to worry about it being taken over.
  • The assassin leveling mechanic has been increased from 10 to 15
  • In order to make the world more immersive they’ve done away with traditional side missions in favor of random events. For example you may be traveling through a city and notice a shop owner being robbed or a little girl asking for help
  • They’re using a new type of capture facial technology called Mocam that GI describes as an “intriguing amalgamation of traditional animation, performance capture and the fascinating new style of performance on display in games like LA Noire.”
  • Desmond is placed back inside Animus where he finds a safe mode called the ‘Black Room’. You’ll be able to access Desmond’s lost memories through that back door
  • The gameplay during Desmond’s game is described as narrative-fueled puzzle sequences. “Through the manipulation and creation of geometry with the game world, Desmond seeks to reintegrate the splintered layers of his subconscious.”
  • Multiplayer is returning but this time they’re trying to give more focus to the narrative since that’s a big part of AC
  • You’ll be able to custom your character appearance and weapons as well as create guilds.
The issue also has got a lot of details regarding the new Rayman title from Ubisoft. You can catch them below aswell:

  • Ancel notes that he’s been working on BG&E2 for “a while”. He said they’ve had a little break from that project that that’s where RO started
  • He noted that few people finished the original Rayman due to its difficulty. They hope to change that by making this one more accessible while still offering a challenge
  • They’re trying to design the game to fit various platforming styles. So people that enjoy collecting will have plenty to collect but it’s also being designed for those that like to do speedruns
  • The Lums you collect will act as currency for new power ups, health and ‘I Dare You’ challenges.
  • ‘I Dare You’ challenges are where you wager on whether you can complete a complex, acrobatic chain.
  • The game now supports 4 player local (they don’t say anything about online) co-op.
  • “The levels are designed with both single-playing and multiplayer in mind, so no one is at a loss if a player tackles the game alone or in a group.
  • In order to keep the game accessible all characters will have the same abilities
  • While the game was a downloable title it has since become a full retail title. Ancel said that comes from people wanting to make a real sequel
  • It’s due this holiday for the PS3 and 360
The Gaf post also has the review scores from Game Informer.

6 studios working on Assassin’s Creed Revelations

The development of the fourth game in the Assassin’s Creed series has been confirmed, and it has quite the army supporting it.

Titled Assassin’s Creed Revelations, the 2011 game is once again led by Ubisoft Montreal, but with five additional Ubisoft studios assisting: Annecy, Massive Entertainment, Quebec, Singapore and Bucharest. Massive is the new addition, the rest were involved in Brotherhood as well.

The entire series has sold more than 28 million units worldwide to date, today’s announcement also says; plenty of reasons for another one then.

assassins-creed-revelations-1st-screen.jpg

Assassin’s Creed Revelations is seen as the final chapter in protagonist Ezio trilogy and will gallop players to Constantinople, the heart of the Ottoman Empire, where those pesky Templars are up to no good again.
The multiplayer component introduced in last year’s game will return, “refined and expanded,” with added maps, modes and characters up for grabs.

In addition, according to Ubi Montreal’s creative director Alexandre Amancio, players can expect “lots of new features and some significant surprises.” But those are being held back for now.

The game will be out in November for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Should history repeat itself though, expect the PC version to slip into 2012.

More information will be included in the June issue of Game Informer, and of course at E3 next month. For now though, check a larger version of the first screenshot above in the gallery here.

The Multiplayer Of Assassin's Creed Revelations

Multiplayer600.jpg

We start our coverage of Revelations with a bang. Our video interview reveals how multiplayer is evolving in the new game.

Andreane Meunier is the Live Team Producer on Assassin's Creed Revelations, which is a fancy way of saying that she helps coordinate all the online features and interactivity that will help Revelations shine. During our recent visit to Ubisoft Montreal, she was kind enough to sit down and share some details about exactly what is changing about the multiplayer experience in Assassin's Creed Revelations.

Like Brotherhood, Revelations' multiplayer mode is a central element of the experience. The cat-and-mouse gameplay concepts that were so popular in Brotherhood will return, but they'll be accompanied by a number of changes that increase flexibility and affect how players interact with the game. There's also an extensive degree of customization and storytelling that has now worked its way into the multiplayer modes.

To learn more, check out our interview with Meunier below.

For more information about the multiplayer in Assassin's Creed Revelations, check out issue 218 of Game Informer magazine. Update:

In a recent interview, Ubisoft’s Andreane Meunier revealed some of what’s in store for gamers with ‘Assassin’s Creed Revelations’ multiplayer, and two new images.

Assassin’s Creed
fever has been hitting us pretty hard, and Ubisoft is making sure that we’re not going to be well anytime soon. The latest bits of news come from an interview with Andreane Meunier, Live Team Producer on Assassin’s Creed Revelations, and focuses on what new features fans can expect from the multiplayer of the next installment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise.

In the multiplayer component of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood players took on the role of Templars in training at Abstergo who had entered multiple animi, honing their assassin skills in order to prepare for battle with Desmond.

These various character types were popular with the Assassin’s Creed community, and Meunier told Game Informer that in Assassin’s Creed Revelations players will have more customization options to better tailor their character’s appearance to their liking by costumizing the costumes and some of the minor features of the characters.

To help gamers get in the mood for Assassin’s Creed Revelations’ multiplayer, here’s the first screen of what players can expect to see.

On the topic of customization, players will have a lot more control over what maps and modes they play when choosing a match in Revelations. Similarly, playlists are being added to the fold so that it will be easier to get right into the game types they want. There will also be a focus on making it easier to play with your friends, so gamers can expect a lot more community features to help support that as well.

Some of the multiplayer maps will focus on locations from Constantinople, the city that the bulk of the main storyline will take place in, but other maps will focus on areas that are closely related in history to the Constantinople era that has been chosen for Revelations.
Some features that are being added to the single-player campaign are also going to be making their way to multiplayer while others will be, “reminisced in little features.” Which features these would be was not clarified, but this could mean that the new hookblade will be making its way to multiplayer.

Alternatively, players might be placing bombs as traps effectively bringing claymores to Revelations‘ multiplayer. Zip-lines would be another great addition that could help players make a speedy escape in some situations, with the obvious downfall of leaving players vulnerable during travel.

While Brotherhood’s multiplayer had what amounted to a premise in place of a story, Assassin’s Creed Revelations’ multiplayer will have an actual narrative to accompany it. Again gamers will take the role of employees working for Abstergo, and if they’re good employees, they’ll progress and get more and more info about how the company works.

This will in turn provide some insight into the motivation behind why Abstergo does the things it does, giving players a look at the other side of the story that they haven’t really seen yet.
One other image was shown during the interview, but instead of a screenshot from the game it’s concept art. With Meunier discussing the additional locations being relevant to Constantinople, this particular image seems to hint at something else.

Is it possible that gamers will also be playing during different time periods in multiplayer? Is this even a screenshot from the multiplayer? We know that Altair will be making an appearance in Assassin’s Creed Revelations, even though it hasn’t been clear in what capacity. With Altair being prominently featured in the series of teaser trailers before the game’s reveal it can be expected that his role in the game is not a minor one.

Then does this concept art suggest overlapping storylines where Ezio and Altair both explore the same areas but in different time periods? Will the multiplayer feature maps from different time periods? There’s still a lot of questions that need to be answered, and surely we’ll be getting the low down at E3 this year, or, if Ubisoft really wants to keep us bed-ridden, before then.

Are you looking forward to more Assassin’s Creed multiplayer in Revelations? How do you feel about more customization when it comes to assassin types?
Assassin’s Creed Revelations will bring assassinating for Abstergo back sometime in November for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Ubisoft has revealed some details on Assassin’s Creed Revelations today, some of which were already posted in the latest issue of Game Informer. It has also sent over some nice bits of art and a teaser video.

asscreedrev-abc.jpg

Assassin’s Creed Revelations follows Ezio Auditore as he walks in the footsteps of Altaïr, on a journey to “recover five ancient seals that hold the keys to the future of the Assassins brotherhood.”
This path will take Ezio to Constantinople where an army of Templars threaten to make the region unstable.
Here’s some more details:

  • Hone the deadly art of assassination – As Ezio Auditore, wield the lethal skills of a wiser, more efficient assassin. Armed with a new arsenal of weapons and abilities including the hookblade, bomb crafting and a heightened Eagle Sense, you can kill with death-dealing proficiency.

  • Herald the return of a legend – Assassin’s Creed Revelations features the return of Altaïr as a playable character, the hero of the original Assassin’s Creed.

  • Journey to the Constantinople –Explore picturesque settings, from Masyaf, the mountain stronghold of the Assassins during the Third Crusade to the vibrant and exotic Constantinople, the jewel of the Ottoman Empire in the 16th Century. Navigate crowded streets and vistas, through a cauldron of cultures as Constantinople comes to life.

  • Meet new players to the Assassins Creed lore –Encounter memorable personalities, including fellow master assassin Yusuf Tazim, Prince Suleiman, destined to become one of the greatest monarchs in history, and Sofia Sorto, a simple woman who vies for Ezio’s heart.

  • Test your skills as an assassin against your friends – the acclaimed online multiplayer experience returns, refined and expanded with more modes, more enthralling maps and new characters
Assassin’s Creed Revelations will be released in the fall on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations E3 trailer

Ubisoft has released the E3 trailer for Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, and its rather long, but good.

In all honestly it plays a bit like a music video, as Ezio fights off a wave of enemies and sees an apparition of Altaïr in the midst of battle as Woodkid’s song Iron plays in the background.

You should just watch it for yourself below.

Revelations is out November 15 on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

It all sounds very exciting. The new trailer has me intrigued and I just knew he wouldn't go down without a fight. I'm also glad Altair is being referred to in this new game. It annoyed me that we left him without a proper conclusion and moved straight onto Ezio. Glad to see that we'll get some kind of truth out of this. Bring on November!

Those who pre-order through Best Buy will get an exclusive multiplayer character.

Additionally, Ubisoft has released an Assassin’s Creed: Revelations Avatar collection Xbox 360, which includes a Codex prop, Desmond’s black hoodie, and an Eagle for a pet.

The Pre Order of the Collector's Edition hasn't been announced yet, but I'm guessing it will be on either Amazon or Best Buy.

One word... SQUEE~!

Ahem, okay, really. I have to say I am REALLY interested, even though I would've prefered a new AC and not another one with Ezio. D: I've been praying for Victorian England for some years now.

But still this looks...phenomenal. Ubi sure as heck knows how to make their trailers more cinematic than Hollywood every could manage. I mean...dang.

No courtesans in Assassin’s Creed Revelations

After two games’ worth of assisting Ezio with his business, hem hem, Assassin’s Creed’s courtesans are bidding the series a temporary farewell.

20110610asscreebro.png

360 Informer reports the decision to drop everyone’s favourite horn-haired hidey holes is a nod to historical accuracy.

Apparently, they didn’t have courtesans standing around on every street corner of Constantinople in the year 1511. Who knew?

To replace the courtesan faction, which along with thieves and mercenaries provided options for distracting or taking out guards, Ezio will befriend Romani performers.

I really can’t see a bunch of acrobats having quite the same magnetic lure as Assassin’s Creed II and Brotherhood’s ladies of the night, but realism first, right?

Revelations is the final chapter in the story of Ezio Auditore, and is said to tie up the stroyline in preparation for the far-distant Assassin’s Creed III. It’s due on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in November.

Can't wait for the game. I particularly like the trailer's music too; seems very fitting I think. I'm curious about Desmond and Altair more than anything (though I love Ezio too). Desmond because of AC:Brotherhood's ending, and Altair because...well, I've never actually played the first game yet so I do want to know more about him. I've yet to finish AC2 - yep, I'm working my way back.

And I take it that they're bringing the Assassins back from Brotherhood, which is a major plus for me. I quite enjoyed leveling them up. I wonder if they'll be more customizable than the last game.

Apparently, they didn’t have courtesans standing around on every street corner of Constantinople in the year 1511. Who knew?

Yeah, that's the Ottomans for you, taking the fun out of EVERYTHING.

I'm interested in what they'll do with Constantinople. They better NOT go calling it Istanbul or I'm going to be a very cross little gamer. Only the Turks call it Istanbul--it's Turkish for city, ffs!

With them being so big on history though, I have to wonder if they'll get the population and vibrations of the city right. Ezio'll have to meet at least one Greek person or they'll have gotten it wrong... Constantinople's population at the time contained a lot of Greeks, remnants of the Byzantine people.

...I'm being kind of anal like this because my father's family hails from Constantinople. D:

I do like the idea of the Romani performers though.

BTW, I heard some people support that ACIII would take place during the French Revolution...I hope that's not true, because I hate the French Revolution...Never got stuff right in history exams with that one, never learned about it proper...

E3 2011: Assassin's Creed: Revelations Multiplayer Hands-On

When we talk to Andreane Meunier, producer for Assassin's Creed: Revelations' online action, she tells us to expect new maps, new multiplayer avatars, new game modes, and a new post-kill taunt ability, for better humiliating your downed foes. When we get our hands on the game for ourselves, it is apparent (and not unwelcome) that mechanically, the multiplayer experience from Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is much unchanged.

Though there will be new locations to play in, and new Templar personas to play as (we enter a game of Team Manhunt as a dark-skinned, turbaned gent), the lethal hide-and-seek action itself is refined rather than overhauled. The stun ability, for instance, with which you could counter an assassination attempt from your enemy, has been improved. Where previously it felt frustratingly unreliable, and too finicky over timing, now you can better fend off an attack--and if your stun fails, the fact that you detected your stalker before being murdered will be reflected in points docked from his kill score. The lock-on mechanism, which was on the fiddly side in Brotherhood's multiplayer, has also been adjusted for ease of use.

In our hands-on demo, we encounter one of the new multiplayer abilities: a kind of land-mine trap that can be tossed onto a patch of ground through which you suspect your foe will try to approach you--or through which you are planning your escape, in case of a pursuit. It's the only new ability we see, but Meunier hints that Ezio's new hookblade will make an appearance, too. We're also told bonus point allocation for skilful kills has been revised, especially allowing for chains of bonuses in the case of collaborative efforts in the team-based modes.

Persona customisation will be deeper, says Meunier, and though level progression achieved in Brotherhood won't be carried across, there will be some offering for those players who spent many hours skulking and stabbing in that game's multiplayer. We'll have more on that, whatever it might be, and on Assassin's Creed: Revelations generally ahead of its November 2011 release.

AC: Revelations info - assassin recruits to get "personal quests", more interaction

Assassin's Creed: Revelations will offer more "unique" assassins to recruit, more ways to employ them and new "Assassin's Dens" in place of Brotherhood's Borgia Towers, according to creative director Alex Amancio.

Speaking to OXM's Jon Hicks about what Revelations would add to Brotherhood's titular team-building system, Amancio commented: "we're trying to put more uniqueness into everyone you recruit".

"It's not just like random people, there is an evolution," he said. "Each one might have a personal quest. We're also adding new gameplay elements, to hold you to the assassins. No longer will you only interact with the assassins by calling them to help you out of a danger spot. You will have other gameplay. There are two systems actually, one's very low level, something you'll interact with directly in the city. The other one will be more high level - it's sort of a mini trading game where you send them all on missions.

Assassins can now level up to Master status, and there will be "something else" you can do with them once they've achieved the honour. Intriguing.

The equally mysterious Assassin's Dens "consolidate a lot of the systems that already exist," explained Amancio.

"You know the Borgia Towers? You don't have that but you have something that's an evolution of that, you have something that's an evolution of city improvement, and all of that's consolidated in the Assassin's Dens."

As with Borgia Towers, Dens will be rationed out at one per district. Each will be "interconnected with the whole ambience of each district", reflecting the local aesthetic as well as how that district "reacts" to Ezio's presence. Some districts will be hostile, others neutral, suggesting that at some point Ezio may actually find himself working against the assassins. Care to speculate?

Update#4

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations‘ Altered Multiplayer Mode Rewards Better Killers—and Swifter Victims

The unusual competitive multiplayer mode that was introduced in last year's Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood will be changed for Assassin's Creed: Revelations.

They're not turning it into Call of Duty or like anything in any other major multiplayer game. It wil still be an assassination game that rewards stealthy players. But the there will be tweaks.

The head of the game's multiplayer development team walked me through them at E3 last week. Ready?

The basic gameplay remains the same. Each player in a competitive match has at least one assassination target and is the target of at least one other player. There are, as before, many characters in the level who look just like you—others who look like each of your fellow players—so the goal is to figure out who the human-controlled characters are and to assassinate any that have been marked as your prey.

Damien Kieken of Ubisoft Annecy walked me through a multiplayer "manhunt" match that was set in Rhodes. He pointed out some minor changes, improvements to the clarity of the interface that more clearly show players how to switch assassination targets or see that they're being rewarded if they hide in groups.

One big change is that players who are attacked can defend themselves a little more successfully this time. In ACB, a player who was being pounced upon by their would-be assassin, could try to block that attack… and then run away in the rare event that they were successful. This time, they can strive for an "honorable death." That is, if they fail to block successfully, they still might have been fast enough to commit this new action, which gives the victim the same number of points that the attacker gets for the kill plus wounds the attacker and renders them briefly incapable of attack. (Kieken didn't want to leave the impression that attacker and defender arre now even. He stressed that AC multiplayer is still intentionally "asymmetrical.")

A second significant change is that stealthy players will get improved rewards for killing from the shadows. In ACB, the main byproduct of a stealthy approach to a kill was the higher point total received for that artful murder. You still get more points for tougher, stealthier kills. But you'll also find that you are a more potent killer if you've been skulking around. Kieken pointed to an arced meter in the upper-right corner of the TV and said that it would fill up if a player was moving around in a stealthy manner. Should that meter indicate that they've been sneaky, the attacking player will find that their assassination attempts animate more impressively and… more quickly. The impression I got is that the stealthy assassin will be tougher than ever to fend off.

Other changes to the multiplayer mode include a "friends hub" that tracks friends' statistical performances in the game—a friends' leaderboard for various challenges, basically—as well as more elaborate character-customization system that will let players use in-game currency to purchase various accoutrements for their characters.

Multiplayer will also have more of a story this time. But that story, which casts the player as an Abstergo Industries recruit of some sort, experiencing the multiplayer mode in one of the series' Animus Device, is still mostly a mystery. (Technically, the last game showed what seemed to be a similar story, but didn't do much more than establish that narrative with an opening cut scene.)

Assassin's Creed Revelations is set to launch later this year. I'll have more impressions of the game's single-player mode tomorrow.

Six minutes of Assassin's Creed: Revelations

Ubisoft, the lovely bunch that it is, has released a six-minute-long gameplay video of Assassin's Creed: Revelations - a completely play-through of the playable E3 demo.

The demo's set in Constantinople, and shows Ezio shooting the biggest flame-thrower we've seen in a video game - or in any form for that matter.

Ubisoft promised the E3 demo would be "astonishing" and it wasn't lying.

Update#2

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations Animus Edition is Gamestop exclusive

The next game in the Assassin’s Creed series has just had its collector’s edition revealed and this time around it will only be found on Gamestop shelves.

The Assassins Creed: Revelations Animus Edition seems to be a huge step up from the Assassins Creed: Brotherhood collector’s edition that was released last year. Let it be clear that the Animus Edition is different from the Signature Edition being sold to people who preorder the game.

This time around, the Animus Edition will be packed with physical collectibles, as well as what looks to be worthwhile in game content.

Animus Edition Features:

  • In-depth encyclopedia, with comprehensive entries on the major characters, events and other important aspects of the Assassin’s Creed universe.
  • Original game soundtrack.
  • Assassin’s Creed Embers Movie: an animated short film.
In-game content:

  • Explore the prison of legendary Vlad the Impaler, the scourge of Constantinople who inspired the myth of Dracula. Seek out the hanging cell of the infamous leader to retrieve his personal blade, a deadly close quarters dagger capable of dispatching any foe.
  • Capacity upgrades for your hidden gun bullets, bombs & crossbow arrows to give you a decisive advantage in battle.
  • Play as two additional multiplayer characters: The Crusader & a character from Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood revamped with a Constantinople flavour: the Ottoman Jester.
  • The Armour of Brutus from Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. One exclusive customisation item.
Some may remember Ubisoft Montreal looking for fans to write an Assassin’s Creed encyclopedia. An encyclopedia detailing events and storylines in the game series’ universe should be useful for anyone easily confused by jumping back and forth from different time periods.

As of now the reveal page only links to Gamestop’s European site which has it priced at €99.99 (~$143.00 USD) Judging by the contents I couldn’t imagine it being priced for more than $100 but we will keep you posted when Gamestop’s US site has it officially listed.

New Assassin’s Creed: Revelations videos focus on the game’s multiplayer

Ubisoft has released two new multiplayer videos for Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. The first one below the break, is a vignette video with a bit of story thrown in for good measure. The other, shows the various multiplayer characters available which should help you become “the ultimate Templar weapon.” Revelations is out on November 15 in the US and November 18 in the UK for PS3 and Xbox 360. Thanks, Ve3tro.
