i watched it in 2d, but the bits i've seen in 3d at work have been very impressive. my mate has seen both and says the 3d is better.
If there is a late night 3d showing I will go to that one then, I hear Hulk is amazing in it

I saw Avengers in 3D.
It was very good in 3D.
If you can, see it in 3D.
Though it's not as impressive as Thor was in 3D as Thor had the fantastic scenes with Asgard that really worked brilliantly in 3D.

Has anyone noticed americans have a fetish for destroying New York in movies? 
Not really, it is just the most well-known city in the world with some of the most recognisable landmarks
Etc, etc.
Blowing up New York is the new beating a dead horse.
Because it's the "heart" of our country. 
If a bad guy strikes against us it'll be there. Plus once new york's under attack that's when we really get pissed off. 
Or it could be the whole wall-street tactic.

Like has been said, New York has well-known landmarks. It is the Big Apple, and so Hell spits out all of the ugliest mutant worms to try and infest it.
Also the Statue of Liberty represents something that the Americans like to keep at the heart of what they like to believe in. An ugly fish-faced monster tearing off the head of Lady Liberty and chucking it into the ocean is not just an attack on New York. It is an attack on the spirit of America. Something like that.
If a fish-faced ugly monster attacked Hollywood it is not as iconic. Since actors live in Los Angeles it looks as if the fourth wall is being broken on film. Though this has happened (filmed on location / etc), it's just not as common. Or at least it doesn't appear to be.
As for other cities... They're typically not as iconic either. Unless the White House was attacked, as it has been in movies... But this is mainly for political purposes / assassinations etc. I don't know if the White House has ever been destroyed by a giant lobster or a 50ft fluffy lunar-rabbit.

None of that says seeing 40 separate movies where New York is destroyed isn't becoming boring.
