Have you ever read something where someone is totally trashing something? (I know, really specific :rolleyes:) But, really, why do they do it? They're about as obsessed over hating any particular thing as someone who loves, and even obsesses, over it. They're kind of defeating the purpose of it even. Total hypocriticism, really.

Take, for example, a Wiki written by a Twilight-hater. Somewhere in it's context (I can't remember exactly where) they state that they read all four of the Twilight Saga books just to make fun of Twilighters. Oddly enough, this person became a fan.

Have you ever seen anything like this?
 
Sounds like that person has too much time on their hands if they just read things to take the piss out of people. And I expect was bullied IRL so now they get their kicks out of being a total tosser online :monster:
 
Haha when I first read the title of the thread I though you meant the old RPG director Adamant.

But yes I have seen people hate a character or a series with quite a passion. Some go as far as making hate shrines and drawing violent fanart of said series or character. Really people like that just have way to much time on their hands.

Hahaha How weird. That's exactly what was going through my mind.

Anyhow, I can't say I've ever hated something so much that I've actually gotten into the culture just to mock it better. There's a lot of things I don't like... but the farthest I go is typically joke about it. Case in point, I'm not a big fan of rap. When Busta was a big fan, I made fun of him... sometimes to the point it pissed him off. What I didn't do was listen to rap for hours on end, just so I could make fun of M.C. Hoebitch-slapper Jr.
 
You should see some of the Buckeye fans here in Ohio. They would burn down flags of Michigan, thrash people's cars just because the Buckeye team lost a game, etc. Now that, I don't appreciate at all. I really can't understand their undying love for Buckeyes, a college football team.

Sometimes I'll go in at work and wear a Michigan shirt on purpose just to piss off a few people (no, I'm not a fan of football in general at all) And it worked...oh how it worked, and that really made me laugh. I can understand if you're just a fan, but seriously, a hardcore fan and pushing other people out of your way just because they like another team besides Buckeye, is very childish to me.
 
Whoa, whoa, whoa! First off, I respect the Buckeyes. I say that as a Penn State fan. The Buckeyes are a good freaking team. I know it was Penn State's big game this year. And the reason people hate fucking Michigan is because 50% of the refs in the Big Ten are from Michigan so they're heavily biased. In fact, Michigan and Michigan St. both usually have very questionable teams and just "happen" to win games because of very convenient play calling. You're right that it doesn't warrant rioting and wrecking cars but there is a reason behind the madness and they have a right to be mad.

You know, maybe that speaks to the topic in general. I wouldn't be surprised if in a lot of these "hate" incidences someone did do something for a poor reason... but the only reason it was perceived as hate was because someone didn't have all the facts. It's like gay bashers that are really gay themselves. Pent up sexual frustration and they take it out in the form of hatred. Is that an acceptable way to vent? Definitely Not... but there's more to the story than meets the eye. Just food for thought.
 
I have nothing against the team at all. In fact, I do believe they are a good team. It's some of the fans that makes the Buckeye team look bad in some people's eyes, however. I know a lot of Buckeye fans, and they're great - they don't get seriously mad if someone say, "I hope Michigan beats Buckeye tomorrow night". Those I am totally okay with. They'll tease you back for fun and won't turn the conversation into something serious and look as if they're about to shoot you on the spot (and I mean literally) just because you're not a fan of the Buckeyes.

Rioting is uncalled for, even if there is a good reason behind it, in my opinion. This is when chaos begins and there's really no need to make it so personal. It's a game - one team will lose no matter what, so there's no need to wreck people's cars over it. If people see that as "okay", then fine, fair enough. I just happen to see it as childish.
 
In a broader sense, I'm not trying to justify anybody's actions. I'm just saying that sometimes there is more than meets the eye.

As for your view on sports, looting and rioting = bad. Being very passionate for your team = good. Steelers and Chargers are playing this weekend. I can promise you that Busta's getting a punch in the arm if Roethlisberger throws and interception to San Diego... but I'm not going to go light his truck on fire. There's a big difference. Please tell me you see the difference between being passionate and being psycho.
 
Being passionate for a college football team is something I personally don't understand, this coming from someone who's not a fan of football at all. I don't even get excited when it comes to professional football. But yes, I know that people are entitled to become passionate about sports, and that's fine, no problem.

I just personally can't see it their way, that's all. What I'm saying (since we're on the topic of adamant haters)...is that people who go their way of ruining someone's property just because a team had lost a game are very childish. That's passionate in a very negative way, but I wouldn't really call it psychotic either. Their action is just stupid - one that I can't fathom. Now if people are passionate about sports in a more positive way (yes, even if they feel the need to punch their friend's arms for the hell of it...as long as both party know it's nothing really serious or personal) then that I can be more understanding.

Yea, alright. That's cool then. I understand the lack of passion for sports. That's honestly how I felt a few years ago. It's not something you can really understand until you get into it. It's kind of equivalent to the GFX thing here. I see how people can get into it but I have no passion for it at all. I'm glad others do... but it's just not for me. I do understand what you're saying though. :) We actually agree on something. How cool.
 
Yeah I see it all the time, some people really go to great lengths just to make something look bad. Stuff like this is all over the internet, it is quite sad and pathetic, its only redeeming quality is that it quite often generates lulz.

As for in RL, there are plenty of dickheads out there who will try to make people look bad.

Over here our sports fans are relatively tame, but there was this one time when my friend accidentally caused a massive brawl between football fans, when he decided to payout someone who was a big fan of the losing team. Luckily that also generated lulz :monster:
 
I was like this back in the late 90's when i was really big into Pro Basketball. My team is the New York Knicks and every freakin' year we played the Miami Heat in the playoffs for 4 or 5 straight years. The Heat beat us the first 2 years, but in the 3rd we were ranked 8th overall in the East while the Heat was the top overall team. We beat them in the decisive game by one or two points on a runner from Allan Houston in the last few seconds.

I couldn't tell you how pumped I was to see only the second #8 team ever to beat a team I absolutely freakin' hated year-in and year-out. I hated every single player on the Heat, i hated their coaches, their history, their fans, and even the city. What was great about that year though was that we went on to beat the Hawks and Pacers in the next few rounds to advance to the Finals where we lost to the Spurs 1 game to 4.

I have to say that was the season I as most into the NBA and haven't had quite a year like it since. Since then, since the Knicks have been on a downward spiral since (however, they are turning it around this season), I've lightened up on the Heat since the rivalry has flared out. I'm usually not a big hater of teams in sports (except the Patriots, Yankees, and Duke University). I'll hate certain individuals like Brian Bilichick from New England, and Jason Giambi from the Yankees, but other than that, I usually have no ill feelings for teams as long as they are not going up against my favorite teams.
