FF Music Absolute best song of the Final Fantasy series!

Im surprise this topic doesnt exist (atleast that I know of). I know there is a poll for the best soundtrack but this thread is the one where you will choose you favourite Final Fantasy song. This has only songs of the main JRPG Final Fantasies so I am not including any spinoffs, prequels, sequels etc. I will give the youtube links for all the songs in the poll in case you want to refresh your memory on any of the songs! I know this is a very difficult choice and I will allow people to vote 2 because I am not mean .
I would also appreciate if you guys commented on why do you think the songs you chose are the best of the series. Are they by any chance of your favourite Final Fantasy Title? What do those songs make you feel? Elaborate a bit basically.

I voted for Terra's theme and To zanarkand for many reasons. But first of all I would like to say that it was one of the hardest choices I had to do. Terra Theme from ff VI is a very soothing song and despite the fact that FF VI is not my favourite title this song makes me feel very relaxed and it has an adventurous touch to it, It also makes me feel like there is a world outside full of secrets and mysteries and also the song is amazing by itself! To Zanarkand is just plain beautiful. It is a very emotional song and the memories associated with it create a powerful impression on me!

Where's Tifa's Theme? And Costa Del Sol?

Honestly, it's difficult to pick an absolute, ultimate best Final Fantasy song. I could perhaps pick one to two per title. I shall do that only using pieces from your list then narrow it down to two pieces overall, I suppose.

Final Fantasy I - Matoya's Cave. An absolute classic, made monumental by The Black Mages. The original version of this piece is pretty serene. Somehow, it speaks of adventure!

Final Fantasy VI - Terra. I absolutely love this theme. It's calm yet confident at first, but rises at 1:17, reflecting Terra's journey.

Final Fantasy VII - Aerith's Theme. A theme as beautiful as the character herself; as soft, gentle and heartfelt. The melody reflects some sort of childish simplicity - playing in the park; building the flower cart with Zack; following Cloud around the Slums - it builds like Cloud and Aerith's relationship. It's a little tentative, yet confident in parts, testing the waters, then going full throttle as Aerith inches closer towards the man she loves! Final Fantasy VIII - Liberi Fitali. A powerful introduction to an incredible game! This is one of video game's most dramatic, most impressive vocal pieces. It draws you into the game, alluding to the epic story ahead, filled with battles, deceit, revenge, loss...

Final Fantasy VIII - Eyes on Me. Absolutely beautiful - and more so when you realise it relates the story of Julia and Laguna! but becomes symbolic for the relationship between Squall and Rinoa. I am one of those people who loves this piece in and of itself - the melody is peaceful; the lyrics are sweet - but the fact it acts as a link between the characters who have fallen in love and the characters who fall in love over the course of the game makes it all the more important.

Final Fantasy IX - Melodies of Life. I haven't really discovered the true significance of this piece, but I have always thought of it as the song

Garnet's mother sang to her when she was younger; the one and only thing which now connects her to the mother she so dearly loved and lost. I believe it brings Garnet hope as the lyrics imply that Garnet's mother still watches over her - 'if I should leave this lonely world behind; your voice will still remember our melody; now I know we'll carry on; melodies of life, to the sky beyond the flying birds; forever and on...'

Whether or not it IS a mother's song to her child, I will continue to attach this meaning to it.

Final Fantasy X - To Zanarkand. This is the piece which started it all for me. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and Final Fantasy VIII were my first experiences of FF, but I wasn't impressed with either at first. However, when I put Final Fantasy X in and heard this... I fell in love. Final Fantasy very quickly became a central part of my life. I played through as much of X as possible, researched the other FF games, bought some, joined a variety of FF forums, made friends, joined more, started to make music videos and Photoshop. Were it not for To Zanarkand, I may not have been as captivated. Life would have been so different without Final Fantasy.

Final Fantasy X - Suteki Da Ne. This piece kinda caught me too, particularly when I watched the music video on the bonus disc for Final Fantasy X. That video gave me glimpses of the story, enough to entice me and pull me through some of the more challenging battles. I didn't get past Evrae until years later (at which point, I finally understood the battle system and things became A LOT easier and A LOT more fun), but nevertheless... The piece is also rather beautiful in and of itself. I believe the Japanese lyrics add to the beauty of the piece, keeping in tone with the game (which has a more Eastern setting) and furthermore, preventing the romance from becoming clichéd.


Yeah, this is quite hard.

Aw thats fine.. If people cant narrow it down to 2 pieces just vote for the ones you want. Although it would be better for a result if people didnt vote for so many songs! Sorry for not including those you mentioned but I based the voting choices on the "general consensus" of the best songs. To be honest there are still loads of personal preference songs I would have put to vote but that wouldnt seem very "professional" xD.

Theme of Love - an epic piece of game music for its time, and its many adaptions and orchestrations don't detract from its original beauty.
Terra's Theme - Another powerful and emotive piece, whether its midi, piano, orchestral or vocal.
You're Not Alone - Real earworm, but it fits the scene in IX where it happens very well.
Loss of Me - I feel this piece represents the conflict of emotions and loyalties in Beatrix's character really well. Wish she'd been a permanent party member instead of the other cardboard cutouts like Amarant.
To Zanarkand - just by listening to this piece alone you know that there is going to be some serious emotional stuff happening in this game (FFX) - the sombre, simple opening scene that accompanies it makes it even more compelling.
Suteki Da Ne - the last truly great FF theme song, imo. The orchestral version brings tears to my eyes every time.

I voted for several because it would be insanely hard for me to pick just one.

1.) FFIV: Theme of Love. This is one of the songs where at first I wasn't so big on it, but then over time it grew on me. I think the moment I really began to love the song was when I went to Distant Worlds in Pittsburgh and I teared up a bit. Beautiful song.
2.) FFVI: Terra. I've always loved this song. From the moment I first heard it till now. It's always in my head.
3.) FFVII: One Winged Angel. My favorite final boss battle theme ever. My favorite villain's theme ever. It's just epic. When me and my ex broke up I listened to it everyday.....that may not be a good thing but I loved listening to it while I was angry. lmao
4.) FFVII: Aerith's theme. Don't really need to explain this. It's a beautiful song that accompanied a heart breaking scene.
5.) FFVIII: Eyes on Me. Love this song. I sing it all the time
6.) FFIX: Melodies of Life. Another song that just grew on me.
7.) FFX: To Zanarkand. Always loved this song. Saw it in Distant Worlds concert. I cried. Hard.
8.) FFX: Suteki Da Ne: Another song that's always in my head, I'm always singing it.
9.) FFX: Otherworld. Kick ass metal song
10.) FFXII: Kiss Me Goodbye. I just recently got into this song. It's very lovely.
11.) FFVI: Dancing Mad. Second favorite final boss battle theme. I was s depressed when I was at Distant Worlds and they didn't play this song.

Terra's theme song gets my vote.
I like many songs from Final Fantasy series but when I first heard Terra's song I immeriately fell in love with the song.
My favourite battle theme song is Worlds Collide from FFXIII-2.

I had to vote for 'To Zanarkand'. It's easily my favorite piece ever written. I would go so far as to taking my character to Zanarkand and just leaving my TV on so I could hear the song on repeat. I've always wanted to learn how to play this piece as well. It's the only one that ever really invoked emotion. Ever since then other pieces started creating emotions, but this was the song that started it all for me.
