360 or PS3: One Girl's Quest for Gaming Nirvana

As someone who owns both consoles, I'd suggest getting a PS3. Unless you're absolutely dead-set on playing Halo online, there isn't much to recommend the 360, really - I had an XboxLive Gold subscription for a while, and the service isn't really worth the money, not even if you're going to use it constantly. The PSN offers the same service free of charge. Even the Nintendo WFC is free. Why pay for multiplayer gaming when you can just have it for free? With paid DLC becoming more and more popular, do you really want the additional charge of online fees as well?

Much of what the 360 has, the PS3 has with extras. This is particularly true of RPGs. The 360 got Eternal Sonata first, but when it came out on PS3 it came with additional dungeons, boss battles, characters and costumes. The 360 got Star Ocean: The Last Hope first, but when the PS3 got it it came with the Japanese voice cast and more balanced gameplay...plus one disc only, instead of three.

There is also that issue of discs to consider, even if its only a minor one. If you're going to be confined to your bed, are you really going to want to have to keep getting up to change discs? Some 360 games come on multiple discs. With PS3 games the game will come on one disc only. Its a minor nuisance, but its still a nuisance.

As good as some of the 360 exclusives are, I don't think you'd miss them too much. Although honestly, I'd just make the decision based on whether or not you're going to want to play your games online, and which exclusives and retro games available on the online stores appeal the most to you. Just keep in mind that with the 360 it may not remain an exclusive, whereas with the PS3 it will. Something to do with easy conversion from DVD to Blu-Ray, but not vice versa.

What does the PS3 own exclusively? Just to name a couple.
:ohoho:

Demon's Souls [never played it but heard it's brilliant]
Final Fantasy Versus XIII
Gran Turismo 5
God of War/God of War II/God of War III
Heavy Rain
Ico
Infamous[again, never played but heard it's good]/Infamous 2
Infamous 2
Killzone 2/Killzone 3
The Last Guardian
LittleBigPlanet/LittleBigPlanet 2
Metal Gear Solid 4
Motorstorm
Ratchet and Clank Series
Resistance/Resistance 2/Resistance 3
Shadow of The Colossus
Uncharted/Uncharted 2
Valkyria Chronicles

Cyan I've got and they're all brilliant.
Yellow I'm definitely getting.

Plus there's a ton of mutliplatform titles that you could play too.

alot of the games mercs listed i own and theyre fucking fantastic. heavy rain is possibly the greatest game ever. metal gear solid 4 follwing closely, resistance is a fantastic series aswell. is mirrors edge a ps3 exclusive? not sure but you might find that interesting.

oh and theres uncharted

PS3 has amazing exclusives. the main reason why I always bought Playstations was because of the FF series. So I had to buy the PS3. Plus PSN = Free.

I have enough fixed costs as it is, I wont increase it just for online play on the xbox...
Mercurial has already listed all the amazing exclusives ! Good Job mate :griin:

The only xbox exclusive im envy about is GEARS OF WAR 3.... played 1 and 2 and they were freeking sweet. Luckily I can play it at my friends house when needed . Fable? not my thing...Halo WAS my thing,, only Halo 1 and 2...thats in the past...

The last Guardian should be your only reason to buy PS3 and FF series to come :P Also Heavy Rain is quite an experience..it opened a new world of gaming ! PS3 is the way to go.. :mokken:

Here's another thing. Do you want the Kinect? (motion sensor that will make the Wii motion controls look ancient) I know you are getting a new system because you'll be sick in bed, but you won't be that way forever. If you don't care about it then you can ignore this post XD

@Martel; Thanks, you made aload of interesting points which justt reinforced my decision pretty much. Being stuck in a bed? Definitely not gonna wanna get up and switch disks. Free online? Epic. Original 360 games being ported to the PS3 with extras? Pretty epic as well.

I'm not a huge online multiplayer.. player, unless I go out and horde a game for people off the forums :wacky: but other than that, I don't really. And especially with shooters, I panic and freak out. xD Games like Halo aren't my cup of tea.

I thought about it.. but probably not. I invested already in the Wii fit to help with my rehab when I'm able to move, after that, I'm probably going to sell it. So the Kinect wasn't really something that grabbed my attention. Besides, the PS Move is on the same level as that anyway... no?

I own a BC PS3 model, and I was able to buy it used at retail for not too steep of a price from GameStop/EB Games. Maybe take a gander at the Canadian site to see if there's any in stock in your area?

Although I'm still a tad wary about my system because it's used. Buyer beware, yeah?

Then again, my used PS2 has lasted for 5+ years. I'll never know if it will break down because I stopped using it once I got my BC PS3 :wacky:

I did buy it because I only had room to have only one console plugged in at a time, and I still adore my PS2 games. And I have a decent amount of those (especially in comparison to my PS3 games).

I can't say anything for or against the XBOX 360, but I've been happy with my PS3, and once I started to get into PSN especially, I can't imagine not having it, or having it and having to pay for it :ness:

Hrm.. I don't live anywhere near a Gamestop/EB.. closest I think is like, four hours away. >.< And yeah, the whole buyer beware thing does.. worry me.

Another thing with my current PS2 is that it's modded. My ex took the top from his, attached it to mine so that you can open the top and rapidly insert another disk while loading roms.. This pretty much allows me to play, every single old school game from atari to sega which he had burned to a few disks. So if I had a BC PS3, I could either do the right thing and send it back to him.. or sell it and try to make a buck. >.>

But the warranty does worry me, I'd rather have something fresh.

I would recommend the Xbox 360 myself. While it is plagued by the dreaded Red Ring of Death, it is still a good console with some great games. True you do have to pay a subscription fee for access to Xbox Live Gold, it comes default with Xbox Live Silver. Similar to Xbox Live Gold, but it's a teaser for full membership. While some may say that the PSN is better as it's free, from my cousin who has a PlayStation 3, he has to put up with a lot of immature brats and such, when he's playing online. From my experience while I may encounter some of the aforementioned idiots, they are few and far between.

I don't own a PS3 and I have no intention to get one, as there are no games on it I'm interested in and I already have a Blu Ray DVD player, so there's no need for me to get one. I'm happy with my Xbox 360, and I recommend that to anyone who asks "Which should I get? PS3 or Xbox 360?".

I wouldn't completely give up on your Wii either as a lot of good games for the system have come out this year including: Super Mario Galaxy 2, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Epic Mickey, New Donkey Kong Country, Arc Rise Fantasia, Fragile Tears (one of the most beautiful games I've ever played)

And there are some hidden gems for the Wii. Little King's Story, No More Heros, and Okami come to mind.

And if your bedridden for a few months, might as as well play Wii sports and Wii sports resort to keep up the upper body strength, because you will lose a lot of strenthg and endurance being bedridden that long and will probably need months of physical therapy afterwards.

Oh believe me, I'm already bulking up on the arm strength exercise neccessities. >.< And with the Wii I've been sort of tentative about it because I'm not sure which games are those that actually require.. physicality to play it. But I didn't know there's a new Donkey Kong Country, epiiiiiiiiiic. I may invest in a few and bulk up for some new games for the Wii as well, but I'd like a back up system just in case I get bored of one, you know? And it's not like I can't afford it, living with the folks and shit.

I always have been a Playstation girl first, a Nintendo gal second and an xbox lady third. I would also recommend the ps3, if you're still deciding, for better graphics, the HD does make a huge difference IMO if you care about visuals, better exclusives, free online, which have already been mentioned and you can play blu ray on top of that. I love my own ps3 to pieces and would recommend it to anybody who can afford it. The 360 isn't a bad console but being the oldest of the three it's naturally inferior.

Blue-ray has never been a huge issue for me before, because any movie is almost.. 40-50$ a pop. :gasp: I'm not so much deciding, I'm just waiting on the right moment to buy a PS3 now.. Boxing day sales may be good at WallyWorld, I got connections there...

Not sure if they ship to canada. I just use amazon for everything. You could at least trade the games in if you dont like them since its the same price as the 160 gb PS3 slim.

Id go with the PS3 also. I have one and not a 360 but my friends have a 360 and PS3 so Ive gamed on the 360 a lot as well. Mainly if you like shooters and games like Oblivion/Fall out, get the 360 since that is what it specializes in. It does have more RPG's than the PS3 but the ones that are exclusive to it besides Lost Odyssey/Tales of Vesperia and are pretty terrible or mediocre. Otherwise there are better versions of the RPG's on the PS3.

Hell, Id even say get a PSP if you like RPG's alot. Not only can it play the PS1 games you can download on it, but it has a TON of quality RPG's and other games. I have 14 games for it currently that I bought and 4 more pre-ordered for next year already.

So yah I've pretty much decided on the PS3 but now just need to slowly put aside the money for it. Boxing day/week really let me down, I was sure Wal-Mart would have it on sale for SOME cheapish price, but nothing.. no model or version was on sale. :hmph:
