Square prices Army Corps of Hell for Vita’s Japanese release

Square has announced pricing for at least one of its Vita titles releasing on December 17. Army Corps of Hell will run consumers ¥4,980 ($64.78) for the packages version, and ¥3,990 ($51.90) for the downloadable version. The game carries a D-rating, which is for 17 years of age and over, and will not require the use of a Memory Card. As far as other software pricing is concerned, it has been preciously revealed that Nippon Ichi will charge ¥6,090 ($79.22) for Disgaea 3 Return. Via Andriansang. Thanks, StolenGlory.

I'm sorry but isnt this freeking overpriced? WTF!!!!
So Vita games will cost as much as PS3 games? :ffs: or is it only SE's case...lulzz I doubt that...

That's for Japan. We have yet to hear any pricing for Vita games in the US. I have a feeling they'll be above $40 in some cases, but won't be in the $60 range. Going that high would put the Vita in direct competition with consoles.

...:gasp2:

That's about £50, and no PS3 game I know of goes for that amount; a few might go above the £45 range in shops, but they're few and far between. If anyone thinks they'll get that much for a video game in this economy, they're kidding themselves. I certainly won't pay over £40 for a video game; I'm reluctant to pay even that. But then, online retailers tend to sell games consierably cheaper than that, so it shouldn't be an issue...hopefully. £50 a game is enough to put me right off the Vita, no matter what it has on it.

Geez, that is steep.

But I read somewhere that Japan doesn't really have a set RRP for their games like we do, and that individual companies do like to charge as much as they want for their games. If I recall correctly, I think it's Type-0 that SE is selling for a steep price with the excuse that the game is long, comes on 2 UMDs and is a good quality game allegedly. Anyone is free to correct me on this though. :hmmm:

Actually, its the same price as most PSP games in Japan. Videogames and movies are WAY more expensive in Japan.

I love how people start flipping out. Seriously, PS3 games in Japan can be like $90-110.

In the US. Im betting games will be between $40 and $50.

Ehh, I wouldnt say that expensive egnerally although you may be right about it CAN be that high. Usually around 5500¥. Of course depending on the release.

This is good. Gaming has become too affordable in the past few years. This shouldn't be a hobby for just anyone. There's already too much riff raff enjoying gaming.

Between 40 and 50 bucks for a Vita title is way too expensive imo...I will never understand handhelds and the people buying those overpriced games..

Ridiculous..to each its own I guess.

Shit I dont even buy ps3 games full priced that often. wahahaaaa

PSP Vita + games could be like ps3 + games when it comes to pricing..

WTF which would you rather buy? Handhelds should be boycotted/banned and whut not imo.... or buy it and enjoy your psp vita being drained out of power while playing on it for a measly 5 hours..

Plug it in a socket and you can play at home and it defeats the purpose of it being PORTABLE..
LMAO!!!

Given the declining quality of video games these days, companies shouldn't be allowed to charge half as much as what they do, because you simply don't get enough bang for your buck. No game developed by Square Enix in the last two years has been worth the RRP.

For me, it's about the game itself, not the console it is on. If I had my way, video games would be priced proportionately to how much they offered a player. Since games these days offer very little, most of them wouldn't even come close to justifying a price tag like that, and consumers would be happier, because it wouldn't be such a gigantic waste of money.

So, if Vita titles are going to cost that much, they had better actually be worth it, and not be just another measly 8 hours of mediocrity. For £40+ I expect at least 50 hours out of the game the first time I'm playing through it. If Monolith Soft can manage it, there is no reason bigger developers can't.

Before anyone jumps on me, I know it costs money to develop these pretty titles, which is why prices are so ridiculously steep. But, you know something? I don't give a flying fuck about any of that, it doesn't concern me. All I care about is the experience the game provides, and graphics are a very, VERY small part of that. A pretty game just does not justify an expensive price if it doesn't have lengthy, enjoyable gameplay to back it up. End of story.

3DS games here are about £35 on average, and I imagine that is how much Vita games will retail for, because handheld games have ALWAYS been cheaper than console ones, and I doubt Sony will change that, because it just wouldn't be a very smart move. It just pisses me off that people seem to think console games should be allowed to get away with having high prices when they offer less playtime than handheld games a lot of the time.

That is HIGHLY debatable. In fact, the quality of games has gone up and the length has decreased. Many people who say this as well dont go out of their comfort zone.

Birth by Sleep was worth the money from SE, Dissidia was well worth it, Tactics Ogre is fine, NIER was absolutel y great.

Those are just SE games. There are tons of PSP RPG's that I would have paid more for than I did and there are multiple PS3 RPGs that arent made by SE that are great and other quality games. Just because they arent the style you like doesnt mean the quality of games have been declining
