A common theme in the video game industry, a Square Enix financial report mentions, is how to gain additional revenue from network or online services.

Square Enix dabbled with paid downloadable content for some of their console games. Nier, Front Mission Evolved, and Mindjack had extra items to purchase online. Final Fantasy XIII, one of their top selling titles, did not.

The next wave of console games from Square Enix will have paid downloadable content. Their investor’s briefing notes to strengthen paid downloadable content for future console titles. Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Hitman Absolution, Tomb Raider, and Final Fantasy XIII-2 are some of Square Enix’s near-future console releases.

Hmmmm I like this idea. The past Tomb Raider games all had a bunch of DLC and I like that they are going to continue this pattern even if it is Square Enix. No doubt we will have more chapters after the main adventure like the previous ones. Although for a game like Final Fantasy XIII-2... If they are going to put paid DLC for that.. Why not just put it in the final product? I know this is just mere speculation at the moment but.. paid DLC is probably not the right way to go with main Final Fantasy titles. Considering XIII-2 is the sequel to XIII. I think paid DLC works for MMO FF titles which has already happened frequently. I will not be bothered if it is paid dlc.. but it really should be in the final product altogether.

In other words, they're telling us this: "We're not getting enough money from our recent shit games, so we're not going to give you the full shit game in the future. You've got to pay for it."

I doubt it'll even be DLC that is actually worthwhile most of the time...it'll probably be things like additional costumes, weapons you could just as easily do without, or an additionl scene so short you'll wonder why the hell you bothered paying for it. In other words, they'll make the full game, then cut corners from it to release at a later date, because they need money after their disastrous financial performance, which is only going to get worse if they keep pulling moronic stunts like this :rage:

What Lezard said above about the additional scene so short you'll wonder why the hell you bothered paying for it,

That's true for I don't know how many games. Mass Effect DLC seems to roll like that most of the time, and Heavy Rain's Taxidermist should just be viewed on YouTube for free. DLC is a ridiculous idea for me, and I think it should be offered for free. The only DLC you should pay for is expansion packs, which of course, should be offered online.

Actually I try never to pay for DLC If it dosent come in the game I consider it un needed to be honest so in my case I doubt it will bring them any revenue.
I also think DLC is the biggest rip off to consumers and quite frankley we are an ignorant bunch to pay for shit deliberately left out of a game to charge us for it later.
I think its a great scam but one I dont realy plan to participate in.

I dunno...I get the feeling the main Final Fantasy series will be left alone with the whole DLC thing. Feels like something for the "other" S-E games.

Despite what anyone thinks of the series, it's still friggin' FINAL FANTASY. It will sell plenty on the name alone, and since the games have all been pretty decent, the precedent continues to thrive. There isn't much need for DLC.

Potentially FF Spin-offs could (and have; i.e. Dissidia) get caught into this, but I'll withhold judgement on DLC for FF games. If nothing else, I have yet to feel cheated with the paid DLC I've seen from S-E thus far (which admittedly isn't a whole lot, so take my opinion with a grain of salt).

Speaking of which, I still need to DL that NieR DLC. Don't care about the costumes, but I want the additional scenario to play through.

You know I think S-E needs to be knocked back down to when they first started I think they are getting far to lazy and greedy lately..

If they put more effort into storylines and little less on gameplay i think they could repair their reputation..

now onto DLC

I think if they made GOOD games that lasted along time and maybe added DLC Content like for example

if they remade FF7 they could Put a DLC version of Advent Children for when people rebeat the game...This is just a example for what they could do mind you.
