GameStop announces a second Final Fantasy XIII-2 pre-order bonus

If you pre-order your copy of Final Fantasy XIII-2 at GameStop, and happen to be a member of the PowerUp Rewards scheme, you’ll receive a second pre-order bonus on top of the previously-announced alternate costume for Serah. The Genji Bow is a transforming weapon that allows for both ranged and melee attacks, and even increases Serah’s attack speed.
Final Fantasy XIII-2 is expected on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in early 2012.
Thanks, GameInformer.

Square Enix Market for Android offers Crystal Defenders, Chaos Ring, more

Square Enix has announced it will open an Android market in Japan. The initial catalogue features Dragon Quest Monsters Most Wanted!, Chaos Ring, Final Fantasy and Crystal Defenders. Chrono Trigger, Itadaki Street and more are expected in the near future.
No word on a Western equivalent just yet but as the publisher has seen success with localised releases on iOS, we can probably expect something next year.
Thanks, GameSetWatch.

Square to open new Montreal studio, first project is Hitman

Square Enix has announced it’s to open a brand new studio in Montreal alongside the currently-existing Eidos Montreal.

The news comes via a press conference today in an announcement made by Square Enix Europe president Phil Rogers, relayed by the director of the Montreal International Gaming Summit, Marie Claude Bernard.
A new studio from Square in Canada was rumoured as far back as March.
Here’s the studio’s logo.
The first project for the brand new studio will be a Hitman-related project.
A Hitman project, Absolution, is currently in the works for PS3, 360 and PC from IO Interactive for a release next year.
It’s also been confirmed that 100 new jobs will be created at Eidos Montreal.
Bernard said in a tweet: “100 new jobs for Eidos Montreal!”
It’s a continuing roll of good news for the Deus Ex developer following the success of Human Revolution’s release in August.
It was reported in September that 100 new jobs would come into play by the end of next year, with a remaining 250 jobs – making up a headcount of 350 – in place by 2015.
The studio has a second team working on a fourth Thief iteration, with a brand new IP also in the works.

Final Fantasy XIV 2.0 is still FFXIV and “nothing else”, says Square

Final Fantasy XIV producer Naoki Yoshida has said the MMO, which is scheduled for an upgrade to 2.0 in 2013 with a new engine, is still FFXIV and not an entirely new game.

isn't powerup rewards free? :\

i thought it only costed a yearly subscription of 15 USD to be a powerup rewards PRO member.

It costs money to sign up because of the subscription you get to game informer.

Im gonna skip out on this though. I dont buy my games from gamestop anymore since amazon I get free 2 day shipping, store credit, and the games are cheaper usually in price AND you dont have to pay tax.

I love how its said just when you think Square Enix couldnt sink any lower. If anything its gamestop and EVERY developer does this.

It is free, and yeah pro costs about 15 dollars yearly. They don't make any mention of needing pro, so it's really not too big of a deal.

Err, I didn't get a subscription to game informer :wacky: First time I was asked if I wanted a card, I said no to the game informer subscription and they didn't give me one. Then when I got a PS3 they just activated a card and gave it to me. It probably depends on who gives it to you, I guess.

European Final Fantasy XIII-2 pre-order bonus detailed

Square Enix is letting Europeans in on the transforming weapon madness too, offering Noel’s Muramasa weapon as a pre-order bonus through “certain retailers”. It can be a sword, a spear, or I don’t even know, some sort of enormous sword thing. The new bonus comes in addition to a number of extras included in a previously detailed pre-order pack. Final Fantasy XIII-2 releases in early 2012 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Thanks, Joystiq.

I don't really understand why Square have decided to release so many 'pre-order bonuses' in so many different places. As I've read elsewhere, it makes it very difficult for the gamers who like to complete their games 100%. I'm very glad I'm not one of those 'cause I'd be going insane. Think about how many copies of the game you'd now need to buy to get all of the bonus items. For once, I think Square is being absolutely ridiculous! -_-

Its been confirmed that at least one of these preorder weapons will be available in the base game itself, but in different colors. Also, I'm quite sure most of these stuff will become DLCs eventually.

Yeah, they probably will be DLC (although I don't know if they'll be worth it :wacky:), like how Deus Ex Human Revolution's Gamestop preorders (after about a month) became purchasable on the PSN, Steam, and Xbox Marketplace.

These pre order bonuses are honestly pretty terrible. Is this the best that Square Enix can come up with? I would have preferred a figurine or some type of art than some weapons you can already find in the game. I can see these not even being useful. I think people would go through the game without them just fine. The only pre order bonus that is even remotely interesting is the Serah costume.

"Certain retailers" = GAME for us, then. It's always GAME. xD

I can't say I'm too fussed by pre-order bonuses; they're all pretty inconsequential, and I expect that you'll be able to buy them for cheap online if you're THAT bothered about collecting them all. I can't see why you would be, since you can only equip one weapon at a time, but...eh. I suppose it's nice to have a little variety in what you can pick up, just as long as you don't miss out on something else you happen to want to have in the future. I'll reserve bitching if they're exclusively pre-order bonuses and are never released as DLC.
