As well as news on the number of discs Final Fantasy XIII-2's Xbox 360 version will have this week's Famitsu features an interview with the Director and boss-man of Final Fantasy Versus XIII and the Kingdom Hearts series, Tetsuya Nomura.

Most of the article features details on Kingdom Hearts 3D which mostly treads ground that has already been covered, there are a few small quotes in the piece that shed new light on the production of Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

Nomura tells the magazine that he recently did a walkthrough of the game's world map in its entirety. He also says he checked the games dungeons and side areas within towns. He tells the magazine he was amazed at how wide and impressive everything he saw was.

He also confirms for the first time that Versus XIII will use part of the lighting engine technology from Square Enix's new next generation Luminous Studio engine. This technology will have only been implemented in the game recently, after the last lot of gameplay footage was released in January.

Finally, he promises fans a Final Fantasy the likes of which they've never seen before.

And he isn't biased at all, of course. He WOULD be impressed, he's in charge of it!

There is that alarming focus on graphics again, which really doesn't matter, at least not in terms of how enjoyable it will be to play. I think we all get the point by now that Versus XIII is going to look spectacular, and I for one don't give a damn. I want detailed gameplay mechanics, proper storyline blurb, and a look at the primary antagonist.

Finally, he promises fans a Final Fantasy the likes of which they've never seen before.
Well, every FF game thus far has been different, so I think it's safe to say he can make good on that promise...unless that focus on style over substance holds true, in which case this will likely be pretty much FFXIII in a different coat of paint. Still, will this be a good thing or a bad thing? Who knows...nobody is bothering to give any details that actually matter :hmph:

Sounds promising. I look forward to hear more information, and see whether I need to buy a PS3 to play this game.

He has said that multiple times. "This will be a FF like you have never seen before" While I might believe him, I do not particularly care till we get more info. It is in full production now! I know that the dungeons and world map is very well done. The only place you can not visit are the Mountains. It is kinda like Versus meets half of JC II or something. Oh lighting techniques from SE's new Luminous studio engine? Nice. This is not enough info though. Square Enix really need to pull it up since it is at 100% development power now. :hmph:

I already have XIII and XIII-2, that's enough of the stuff I haven't seen in FF. Better do what you always did but better.

How about the little information you have given is not really helpful at all?

I would rather have more details before I hear "its a game unlike any other" I have heard that line 1 too many times in the gaming world, and yet when I do, I somehow can find games just like it...

But in all seriousness I want this game... but I'm not going hold my breath on it actually coming out till i hear more details...

I'm going to make this as brief as possible.

I'm really only moving over information I have on Versus from the Downfall thread.

VERSUS.

The first bit of info I tracked down is this. Open world. The biggest EVER supposedly. You can Walk. You can Fly an airship I'm told. You can Fast Travel. And, you can Drive a Car, manually I'm also told. These are all seperate yet effective modes of transport and if the vastness of the city in the trailer cinematic is any inclination, i think we are in for a ride.

And that's just roaming.

Noctis apparently can USE every weapon in the game's arsenal, however, only in the basic sense of equipping a weapon. (not to sound lackluster BECAAAAUSE) everyone else (while not being able to use weapons as freely as Noctis) has a speciality such as a character whose name i can't recall who is a gun-user and can switch to a sort of fps mode and target enemy weak points or environmental things like the good ol' exploding barrel. only a little more creative than just the barrel but you get what i mean in such a vast open-ended universe, right?

Characters can be switched on the fly depending on what your unique strategy might be. Battles will be more tricky than any kh battle has ever been looking more like fight sequences in FFVII:AC than user controlled battles. Yet, somehow the user MUST still be in complete control, right? Maybe I'm just being hopeful but I hope for more than just context sensitive button pressing in the middle of intricate battle sequences.

Aside from a few CGI scenes all "cut-scenes" are interactive functioning more like real-time events and having no lapse in time between roam and sequence. This spans from the miniscule NPC conversations to full scale battles. If a bomb goes off in your neighborhood there's no load screen before the shit hits the fan right? that shit just catches you off guard and you spill your coffee all over your pants and then you run frantically in the streets. From what I've received, we can expect something like that to be lurking wherever we may roam.

That's what they're going for. You'll be able to interact and move about throughout the meat of the game no matter who is talking to you, keeping you on your toes. never knowing who to trust. gone are the glass-shattering segways between encounter and battle. encounters are battles. scenes featuring fights. fights featuring scenes. on massive maps. vertically and horizontally.

If I'm not making myself clear enough, picture that you are in the middle of a walk through the city and suddenly a behemotherfucker jumps into your chosen path of egress. You're like "HOLY SHIT!" and then you start to run away. not cause you don't wanna get down and dirty with it, but because you wanna get somewhere safe enough to snap a picture with your cell phone (yes, you do have a picture phone in versus) and post that shit on your facebook before...

(your real life facebook, but i just might be making that one up. wouldnt it be fuckin sweet tho?

...before you jump down and impale that brohemoth. and when its over something cues you that youve accumulated agro without impeding your egress any further and you book it out of there.

PerHAPS, a little victory fanfare ringtone and a quick glance at the phone to see the stats... perhaps
[/re-edit]

Didn't that just feel sweet readin it?

so fret not, humble FF fans. We will be fed once more. The storm will clear. this may very well be the best selling game in the fuckin universe let alone the genre. unless its vaporware or it doesn't live up to that hype i just gave you.

Killzone, anyone?

:awesome:

[edit]

as far as the internet is telling me, this will be a ps3 exclusive which I'm rather disappointed about, but seeing the graphical engineering involved I don't think a petty 360 could handle it. The playstation brand has always been miles ahead of even conventional computers in terms of raw processing power. and with things like density of the skin changing depending on what part of the body is being rendered.... such as the lips of noctis father smooshing together in disdain.... these things are just all too metaphysically real to be incorporated into microsofts little fun box.

remember the reason ps3 came last in the cycle. I can put windows on it and run ps2 emulators on it with excellent frame rate and in hd. using only a fraction of the cpu. i beat the backwards compatibility issue with it with a simple partition. try that on an xbox 360. oh yea, you cant. hell you can't even download a web browser or install flash to watch all your porn. have fun on netflix.

i just wish i hadnt sold it. :'(

I totally forgot about this thread, I was totally going to respond to it when I first saw it, but I forgot :damon:

They call this news :srsly: !?

Please, tell us info that we don't already know, then...you can actually call it news :wacky:

They've already talked about how the game is going to be visually enhanced with the lighting tool and etc. They are right though, this will be the likes of a Final Fantasy we've never seen. Because they never show us any of the game anymore :hmph:
