[16/01] DLC content for XIII-2 important for the story!

I don't think this is 100% true, since they declared that some monsters are DLC and already said that there will be extra side quest and stuff that are going be DLC along with costumes and Lightning stuff was going be DLC... So unless the Lightning stuff is Story related I don't think this is true...

and on a side note....
This isn't the first or last company or game to do this... many games are doing this or have done this... what use to count as "side-quest" and "fun extras" for a game are now DLC's.

Sport games that use to try and improve stuff now puts dlc stuff for extra people or ranks or whatever...
RPG's use DLC for side-quest, extra characters, or even more of the story.
Fighting games for extra weapons...

and the list goes on and on... So don't yell at Square, for doing what everyone else has done already....

According to what I have read this "STORY" part is an EXTRA and not tied to the actual story itself:

The DLC also adds a new episode of story content that is expected to be short but a nice addition to those that enjoy spamming X while watching Lightning and her friends beat up groups of monsters. The best part is that despite the DLC’s 300 yen price (which is about 4 U.S. dollars), it’ll be available for free until the 10th of January. (Playstation Life Style, 12/2011)

hope the english version has a free window too.

Usually I'm up for DLC, but seriously why does it have to be an important part of the story. :hmph: I don't mind paying for extra content like weapons and such, but this is a bit stupid. :/

if you buy the Limited Edition or the Collectors edition, whatever they call it, you get a free dlc, but if you buy the regular one, then you have to pay for it i think.

I couldn't find that anywhere (see below)- besides unless the dlc is $20 its not worth the upgrade at all.

From Amazon-
Collector's Edition contents: Special digipack packaging, including slipcase; 4-disc Official Soundtrack; Contents of concept art book, bound directly into the packaging

You got free DLC if you pre-ordered it on Amazon. Probably worth about $1.99. But the extra $20 is more than worth it. The soundtrack alone if you buy it is like $40. Packaging for it is phenomenal as well. Im pleased with it

And then there's the Crystal edition which lets you get a shiny FFXIII-2 t shirt and postcoards with it too. And an artbook, and that's.. what.. 150 bucks?

DLC is a ridiculous notion anyway. I mean if you can release it on the same day as the release of the game it should be in the game. This is what pissed me off about The Sims 3. I shouldn't have to pay 60 dollars for a "base" for them to expand on. I shouldn't have to spend almost as much on a single game as I did the console. And they wonder why piracy is such a problem?

I mean of all the industries that are having problems with it, the game industry deserves it the most. The price of a CD hasn't risen into the hundreds, movies are usually decently priced and you don't have to pay to buy extra scenes. It's ridiculous. If you want people to pay for things, you should give them something worth their money, you shouldn't give them half a game for a full game price.

I don't mind costumes and extra stuff, though I still think that it should be included in the game. I mean, you know they develop most of that stuff while they're making the game and it should come with the game.

Makes me mad. :rage:

That said, it's the way the game industry is run. I don't see people bitching about Bethesda for selling me pieces of Dragon Age: Origins Story, or any of their latest games. Just as stupid, just as much extortion, just a slightly more popular company. It seems to be in vogue to bitch about Square, and crucify them for every little thing they do. They aren't doing anything that a dozen other companies haven't already done.

I mean Fallout 3 had downloadable content that continued it's story, and yet people praise it nonstop.
